They actually discourage medical professionals from working at non-SDA hospitals on the Sabbath because their work load isn't lessened. Funny, I don't recall Jesus picking and choosing what was ok to heal on Sabbath and what wasn't. They really try to cover everything. Even saying that Adventist fundraising on Sabbath is ok if it is done "in the spirit" of the Sabbath. I actually had to put praise music on to sit through reading this. I have been looking to see what official SDAs are teaching about us Apostates. They actually have very little to say. Most of thier discussion is attacking each other for not being Adventist enough. I kind of wish there was a list of SDA apostates somewhere. I'd love to see how long it is!  | ||

I don't recall my workload being any less on Sabbath when I worked at an SDA hospital-but then I was menial labor not a "medical professional". | ||

Hmmmmmm.....it has just been the opposite for me. I have found that my relationship with God is closer than ever after leaving the SDA church and not keeping the sabbath anymore. In fact, I must be so full of joy that people notice it. It's funny how I can even walk thru Wal-mart and people look at me and just start beaming. hahaha Apparently, they must see the joy of the Spirit. I stand in a line of people and they just start talking to me and start telling me things that you just don't tell a total stranger. It's just plain fun not being a SDA anymore. Even in a Perkins womens bathroom I had two women just start talking to me and I got to share the gospel with them. Wow....the Holy Spirit just swooped right on in there and did His work LOL! So my relationship with God is supposed to be going down the toilet since I don't keep the sabbath anymore.......WHATEVER!!!! lynn | ||

Jesus Christ is my Sabbath Rest...He should be yours too. That's what Christ calls us to do...and it's much more simple...and lasting...then the stress induced by trying to follow this list. | ||

Way to complicated. No way could I remember and adhere to all that: Their guidelines on Sabbath observance just do not integrate with reality. First, the OT says nothing about worshiping on the Sabbath. It was only declared to be a day of rest where the Hebrew people who had been slaves in Egypt had just been set free and had never experienced physical rest. Worshiping on the Sabbath in a synagogue, which is mentioned in the NT and observed by Jesus, was a man-made tradition that Jesus did not object to. Something good to do. The Ten Commandments said nothing about when we should worship God, only that we should rest. So, how does 'Sunday Worship' become a test of our faith when it isn’t commanded against, even in the OT? I still work full time even though I am seventy years old and out of necessity have asked the company to have Fridays off and work Saturdays instead. This works out to the advantage for all concerned because there are many things that cannot be done during the normal production week that I do on Saturdays where I am totally alone with nobody to bother me. This means I get to ‘talk with God’ all day long while doing whatever my chores may be. I love it. Physically, it is the most restful day of the week for me and, spiritually, it means I return home rested at the end of the work day. Ironically, Saturday has become my personal and special Sabbath Rest day even though I normally work harder physically because Jesus is my real rest and we can talk uninterrupted all day long. "The Sabbath encompasses our entire relationship with God." I like to think that Jesus encompasses the Sabbath and gives us Rest. Just as Adam and Eve rested in God's completed works, we rest in Jesus' completed works. | ||

I thumbed through it and went yikes. I am so thankful that I do not have to try and do this any longer. My sabbath is everyday spent with the Lord and that it is not just one day a week. The bible teaches that where two or three come together He will be with us and you know what? It does not say on any given day this is to take place. I am so glad to be set free from these idiot rules set up by the church. Gail | ||

I wonder if It is Written has received this. They hold fundraising events many weekends in the fall at different hotels in the U.S. The hotel staff prepare and serve all their meals. I read all the guidelines and all I can say is that they are hypocrits in how they live versus what they say they believe and I am SO SO glad to be out of it. The saddest part is that the focus is on the day not Christ. | ||

Free, I have noticed over the years that the "official" SDA organization is remarkably tight-lipped about the apostates who find Jesus. From a PR standpoint, they are entirely right to "ignore" us/them. The minute an organization addresses a body such as the "Christ-following apostates", that organization gives them legitimacy in their own eyes. In other words, the apostates are significant enough that the church must counter-attack. In reality, however, they are paying attention and have been since Dale Ratzlaff's book went on the radar screen in the 90's. Individual Adventist clergy and academics have responded in all kinds of ways, but never an "official" denominational response Moreover, they have distinctly changed much of their language over the past 10 or 12 years. There is a great deal more "Jesus talk"; they almost always use the term "former Adventists" instead of ex-Adventists...which used to be the way apostates were more often addressed. Etc. Ted Wilson, however, is doing everyone a huge service. He is restoring/revealing the true Adventism to both its members and the public. Colleen | ||

Speaking of Ted Wilson, I feel compelled to share a very recent authoritative quote from him. Just this month I received the September 2011 issue of "Adventist World" which is published by the official publishing arm (R&H) of the SDA organization. It features an interview with Ted N.C. Wilson the current President of the world conference and the absolute highest official in Adventism. Wilson says,
Wilson goes on to identify those in "other faiths" as those "who right now are worshiping on some other day than His chosen Sabbath". This is an important concept to understand when dialoging with SDAs. Protestant Christian denominations are not part of one Faith or one Church. They are something other than God's church and are in fact completely different "other faiths" from which people need to be evangelized. "The Church" is terminology reserved for God's true remnant church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I want to stress this, with no exception that I am aware of, the term "The Church" in SDA literature always specifically means Adventism and NOT any other group or denomination. Now, when your talking to your SDA friend they will soften this by saying, "God has people in other churches". They can say this because there are "other churches" which constitute "other faiths" and then there is "The Church" which constitutes Adventism, but if you don't know this you won't catch the significance of what is being said. In addition, when talking to non-Adventist they rarely include the part about how these people in other faiths, if truly sincere, will eventually be brought into Adventism. I'm really liking this new SDA President because he makes these things we all know so clear and precise when he speaks without trying to cover any of it up. As all this isn't enough, he goes on in the same article to say that good preaching should include regular focus on Ellen White and the Investigative Judgment. So the next time someone insists Adventism has changed, just point them to the current President. Thanks for being so up front Ted! | ||
