If there's any question about Adventists "changing", becoming more "evangelical"...here's your answer.

This link is the official video recording the ceremony of dedication that occurred at the annual Fall Council at the General Conference Headquarters less than two weeks ago on October 10, 2011

This is the official dedication ceremony launching the concerted distribution of The Great Controversy in all its versions (including one for children) and translations. I encourage you to watch this and listen to the things they say about the Great Controversy, about why this project must happen, and what their goals are.

Interesting bits of data I gleaned:

Projected goal for numbers of copies to be distributed in the years 2012-2013: 166,600,00. (Does anyone else see a significant number embedded in there?)

In Mark Finley's dedicatory prayer he prayed that "as your people read the Great Controversy," that the same spirit that inspired the writing of the book would inspire their hearts and produce a revival among Seventh-day Adventists.

He also prayed that families would read the Great Controversy for family worship, that people would use if for study groups, and that Bible studies based on the GC theme would spring up.

Ted Wilson's remarks stressed that EGW said that this book was to be distributed more than all others of her books. He stated that the stories of lives changed by the reading of this book confirms that it is inspired by heaven (basically the same argument used by Mormons for their Book of Mormon...only they use the "burning in the bosom" rather than "changed lives").

Ted Wilson also stressed that in no way are they worshiping the book, that they were simply dedicating it. (Remember the much-talked-about picture of the GC officials praying over a stack of Great Controversies after Wilson's inauguration? Remember how many former Adventists were remarking about their worshiping the book?...ahem...)

I believe that the Christian world needs to know what Adventists are really thinking and doing. They are overtly pushing the members back into active pursuit of EGWs writings, especially the Great Controversy, and their true cultic nature is showing. This is good...but I was also thinking that this return to EGW will produce much less of a "gospel-flavor" than has been prevalent for the last two or three decades.

Here's the link from the GC posting:

Great Controversy Project Dedication
Seventh-day Adventist world church leaders participated in a dedication ceremony for the Great Controversy Project on October 10, 2011. The ceremony was part of the church's fall business session, held at the world headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States.

GCs have already hit the streets here. The group that went door-knocking last week didn't have a lot of success. People aren't interested. Waste of time and money.

I know this is off the subject, but do Adventists still do "Ingathering?" each year?

166,600,000 Great Controversies.

If each book printing, salary, overhead, etc of publishing house, packaging, delivery, etc. cost $3.00 which I believe would be more, how much would that project cost?

166,600,000 X $3 = 49,980,000

$50 million dollars? Where is that money coming from?

Hec

Hec, it comes from gifts. That is what the program is designed to generate... it converts giving to the church into prophets for the White estate and the general conference. I have yet to be convinced of the impossibility that some of the money ends up in individual executives pockets.....

to me it is just a convenient money laundering scheme.

This is disgusting!

If SDAs base all their truths on the Bible, as they claim, WHY aren't they sending out Bibles?!?

Watching this now that I am out of SDAism, it is so clearly cultic...no two ways about it.

Did you watch many of the faces of the men on the platform? I thought most looked bored/expressionless.

And SO many leaders know the IJ isn't Biblical and here they are sending out the book that teaches this heresy!

I believe that we need to be very serious about prayer. Prayer is extremely powerful. Let us shut down their proselytizing by praying for the Body of Christ. I will be praying that the Holy Spirit would fill His people with wisdom to see the deep error of Adventism and that those who are handing out books would be turned to the truth of the saving gospel. I am going to pray that Jesus would take sleep and peace away from His pastors until they understand that they MUST protect their flock. I am going to pray for LAM and Proclamation, that the LORD would expand their territory and that they would see an outpouring of support and requests for magazines as they have never seen before. I will also continue to pray for the public exposure of the evil within the Adventist organization and for the members who are in dissonance to loose sleep until they leave. Will you please commit to joining me in this? The LORD can shut down the spirit of Adventism; His ability is not in question. Jesus is sovereign and if He does not want to shut it down He will not, but we can at least expose our heart to Him and pray for His will to be done.

I join you in praying for these things, Free. I agree with you; God is sovereign. We see increasing numbers of people requesting the magazine...not HUGE numbers, but compared with a few years ago, significant numbers. God is calling people, and truth and deception are becoming more clearly contrasted.

I was really chilled by Finley's prayer that the spirit who inspired the book Great Controversy would inspire all those who read it. I believe we can expect that there will be increasing clarity among those who want to know truth and increasing anger from those who love the status quo.

God is sovereign...and I join you in praying, Free.

Coincidence? Subconscious design? I don't know. Just interesting.

166,600,000 books. How many sixes in a row? And what is that?

Is the spirit who inspired the GC possibly being allowed to do some bragging in the number of books sent out? Why did no SDAs involved in this project notice/object to the number? I agree, Hec, that it's very interesting. Let's face it, Finley himself called on that spirit in the hearing of all.

Free and Colleen, I will join you in praying...this is very serious stuff. Will the rest of you join us in praying? The spiritual battle is becoming more and more clear with "dedication ceremonies" like this...God, may you be glorified in this battle! Open their eyes, Lord!

Joining you all in prayer.
Father, if it is your will, please prevent these books from being sent out to your children. If it is your will for them to be sent out, then I believe there is a reason for it and hopefully that reason is to have the books refused by the majority and that the ones that are accepted will either be thrown in the trash or read and used to wake people up to the very real deception in those pages and then tossed into the trash. But only you know how to turn what we see as something horribly wrong and dangerous into something to awaken your children and turn it into a blessing. I pray that you use this book of deception somehow to bring glory to you Father. In the name of Jesus your Son I ask.

What I would like to do if they come around my house is to ask for as many books as they can give me, then burn them! Oh course I would have to lie to get them, so I guess that is out!

Father God, you know about this project of handing our the GC and all the deception the sdas teach. I am asking you to protect the innocent and those who do not know their Bible well. You know what is the best thing to do and I know that you will do it. Turn this into a blessing for you. I ask this in the awesome name of Jesus.

$50 million dollars....wow! That is the potential cost for these books. But what about the cost to mail them? So what...they are looking at possibly $70 - $75 million to purchase and distribute these books? That is just horribly sad. Look at how many people who are destitute, who are living in substandard conditions, who don't even have the money to provide food for themselves and their families. And here we have the SDAs sinking that kind of money into distributing a book that is to them apparently more important than even the bible. In reading the gospels, I find that the only thing Jesus did a mass distribution of was fish and bread in feeding the multitudes.
Father God, I ask for Your intervention in the distibution of the Great Controversy. Lord, You know the ones that will just throw this book away and You also know the ones who will be inclined to actually read this book. Please protect the minds of the ones who may read this book. Cause their minds to blank out whenever they pick up that book to read it. And even better yet, may many of these books just simply get lost in the mail and never make it to these homes. I plead the blood of Christ over every intended recipient. In the name of Your Son...Jesus Christ

I wonder if there is perhaps a list of questions that could be posted for people who get the books to ask their Adventist literature evangelists about the contents of GC?

Ex. Do they still hold to beliefs regarding the IJ?

Is Sunday keeping the mark of the beast?

Will Sunday keepers really perseccute them in the end times?

Why do they really believe all these things?

I actually think this is a great evangelistic opportunity! I wonder if a brochure could be printed (or newspaper ad taken out) that could say something like...

"Did you receive your copy of The Great Controversy by Ellen G. White? Ellen White is the prophet of the Seventh-day Adventists. They believe that...

Perhaps a copy could be given to evangelical churches in the area explaining to pastors and church members what they are receiving. GC has so much stuff that is completely unbiblical that it won't be hard to write something up that could show that Seventh-day Adventism isn't just real Christians worshiping on a different day.

I don't know the book as well as I should having only read it once or I would do it myself.

Does anyone know if GC is being handed out in Michigan? I just may get busy on something like this.

Here's a link to an article in the January 12, 2012, issue of the Adventist Review about the Great Controversy Project. I don't think we can underestimate the energy and intention of the general conference that lies behind this huge undertaking:

~Colleen~

Thank-you for the link~
I just read the article & passed on the link to
several family members~(who are "Formers!")

In a way, I feel this Great Controversy book
distribution is such a waste of time & treasure~
But, on the other hand I pray many Christians will
read, at least some of it and see that adventism
is heretical!

I agree, MJ, but at the same time, immature Christians without a firm grounding in Scripture are so vulnerable. On another thread Nowhitehats shared this link: http://news.adventist.org/en/archive/articles/2011/12/05/evangelism-symposium-urges-simpler-gospel-presentation

It explains their new focus as they do the evangelism planned to follow this orchestrated mailing of GC around the world.

God is greater, but their plans are very carefully orchestrated and well-funded. I'm not fearful; God will use this to help reveal the truth about Adventism. But we can't underestimate this push.
