"I have been for more than forty years engaged in labor to save souls for Jesus Christ, ...If I was
knowingly transgressing one of God's commandments because it was convenient for me to do so, then I could not trust God...but when I seek to overcome to the best of my ability, ...then it is my privilege to claim His promises ...This is the precious lesson that I am learning today, to do the very best I can ...and then trust the rest to Jesus.
How many that are here present today shall I meet around the great white throne?
How many will lift their voices in songs..." EGW, ST, 1887

I read this on another forum and wanted to share it !

Thoughts?

Terrible, terrible, terrible doctrine. Not in the Bible.

How many things wrong with that quote can you find?

1. I can't trust God if I knowingly break a commandment

2. When I "seek to overcome to the best of my ability"--THEN I can claim His promises. (His promises are unconditional)

3. Do "the very best I can"--I cannot do any good at all—Romans 3.

4. If I do the very best I can, I can "trust the rest" to Jesus. No--God demands perfection, and I have to trust Jesus with ALL of it.

5. Hmmm--the Great White Throne? That might be the one true thing. According to Revelation 20, the great white throne judgment is the judgment of the wicked after the second resurrection!

So she's admitting she is going to be thrown into the Lake of Fire like all the rest who thought they could earn salvation. Accurate actually. It might be the only prophecy she ever got right.

Such guilt ridden, always working, never assured theology.

And the truth will set you free indeed.

ha! Phil, I just caught that!

I went back to read it out loud to my husband and had to chuckle where Ellen wrote, "How many that are here present today shall I meet around the great white throne?" She's trusting Jesus with the "rest" of her life and then asks who will meet her at the great white throne!

I'm not meeting her there either!
