Great article and comments. Chris, I especially appreciated your suggestions in the comments. SDAs are making a stronger effort to "have it both ways" with grace and the law. In the comments after the above blog post, "Grace" (evidently an SDA) says: "Yes, we are saved by grace through faith alone"...but then states that we keep the law because we want to "please God." This is the same line that Doug Batchelor (D-Bat) uses for his grand charade in the "Who are the Seventh-Day Adventists" video. He first quotes Ephesians 2:8-9 to prove SDAs believe they are saved by faith, through grace alone. Then D-Bat dramatically walks into the audience (at about the 26:00 mark) and says, "Do we keep the Sabbath to be saved, or because we love the Lord?" Of course the audience shouts "Because we love the Lord!" O.K., SDAs... so you no longer believe the law (the Sabbath) will be the "Final Test" for believers? And if an individual feels convicted by the Holy Spirit and the scriptures that the Sabbath no longer applies, and stops keeping it, he or she will still be saved? That's great news! I know when I left the first time it was the sabbath that drew me back out of fear of am I doing the right thing in leaving. For myself I had to deal with the sabbath issue when I left this time because of the guilt attached to the day if you don't go to church on saturday and also for stepping into a sunday church. Once I truely grasped what Jesus did on the cross for me and that the law no longer counted because it was fulfilled I have never had a more freeful feeling as that. I praise God everyday for my freedom from being opressed and afraid by trying to keep the law. Thank-you Chris for the great article. Gail | ||

~Gail~ You are not alone in the "fear & guilt" about 'sabbath'! That really seems to be the "bottom-line" for most people contemplating leaving the adventist church~ I Praise God that He has relieved you of the fear & guilt, as He has me~ God is Faithful! |
