From the 1884 edition of GC, pg. 484, the last chapter ("The Controversy Ended"): (This is describing the coronation of Christ).

"Satan seems paralyzed as he beholds the glory and majesty of Christ. He who was once a covering cherub remembers whence he has fallen. A shining seraph, "son of the morning;" how changed, how degraded! From the council where once he was honored, he is forever excluded.HE SEES ANOTHER NOW STANDING NEAR TO THE FATHER, VEILING his GLORY. HE HAS SEEN THE CROWN PLACED UPON THE HEAD OF CHRIST BY AN ANGEL OF LOFTY STATURE AND MAJESTIC PRESENCE, AND HE KNOWS THAT THIS OFFICE MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIS."

What? Please tell me what you read in this!

In all the modern GCs, you will find this change to the paragraph:

"...veiling his glory" changed to "veiling His glory" and the last sentence reads:

"He has seen the crown placed upon the head of Christ by an angel of lofty stature and majestic presence, and he knows that THE EXALTED POSITION OF THIS ANGEL MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIS."

See the difference?

This paragraph was presented by one of the speakers in a break-out session during FAF weekend.

You know, this sort of changing of the text reminds me of Mormonism. They change their books over the years, quietly allowing the earlier ones to slip into oblivion, but never owning and renouncing whatever was changed.

The quotes you posted, Nowisee, reveal the source of the sense that I always had about Lucifer: that he "went bad" and never got over pining for the glory Christ got instead of him. No matter now much Adventists deny that they teach Satan and Jesus had once been on an equal playing field, still the sense of Satan's somehow understandable jealousy always infuses Adventists' perception of both Jesus and Satan.

Jesus is always less than the Father. Satan is always WAAAY more powerful than he really is.

And even with the change, they leave "the prophet's" statement that Jesus veiled His glory and that He was crowned by an angel in front of the lost at the end of time.

What?? Ephesians and Philippians and...well, the NT, actually...tells us that Jesus was seated at God's right hand upon His ascension, and that all are to honor the Son as they honor the Father, that those who do not honor the Son do not honor the Father.

No angel crowns Jesus. The Father welcomed Him back to heaven and seated Him at His right hand and made the earth His footstool.

Moreover, angels always knew the Son as God and Creator. Lucifer never had any shred of opportunity to be honored like Christ, nor did he think he had the opportunity. He KNEW Jesus was His Creator.

The assumptions underlying these quotes is heretical, yet Adventists bend over backwards to try to defend EGW. It's quite telling...

SO messed up. Satan would never have taken that position, ever!

As I read this I am reminded of what I read in the gospel of Mark. When Jesus commanded the demons to leave people, the demons always recognized Him as the Son of God.

I was reading another study done by a pastor who said this about the Bible. "rather than change the Biblical wording, we perhaps had best define it, rather than tamper with it. Semantics have changed over 2000 years, and extreme care must be exercised before we make changes rather than study their meanings. (Seek understanding rather than change)

This woman not only changed the wording, but changed whole concepts and made bold assumptions on the Bible.

Here she changes the concept of the trinity to suit her own imagination.
I don't know whether she had a sick mind, or she was just plain evil, but it is amazing how she got promoted to such a stature in the minds of Adventists.

I take it GC means general conference? How could a general conference of men have ever approved this kind of stuff no matter the word change, to me that don't make it look better. It still reads with a flavor of an insane mind.

Hi River,

I think GC in this context is referring to EGW's book "The Great Controversy".

Sorry, River! Yes, thank you Carol--it's The Great Controversy, (or as I'm beginning to call it, "The Great Con")!

This is the book EGW most wanted to be distributed to non-SDAs, the project the SDA church is spending millions on this very year. It contains her description of the "anti-gospel", i.e. the investigative judgement. It describes how the Christians will hunt down SDAs in the end times. Since it weaves Bible texts and bits of true phrases into it's heresies, it has the potential to fool many who don't know their Bibles.

An Adventist sent me a copy of the great controversy.
When I took the book out of the package, somehow it made me feel weird, like it was hot, or something, I can't explain it, but somehow I felt I shouldn't read it, so I turned around and threw it in the waste basket.

I suppose I should get a copy and read it, but even when I think of it, I don't want to.

Maybe it was just me, I don't know. I'm not superstitious, but there is just something about that book that doesn't feel right. I've had other Adventist materials sent me and I didn't feel that way. Go figure!

Hey River,

I think I might still have a copy you can have. What I mean is that it is out in a storage shed getting moldy and might not be readable. I am planing on composting it but will save it for you if it still exists.

Maybe it would be better composted, or let Hooch have it for a play toy then compost the remains.

After I left adventism I had this "weird" feeling behind me when I was at the computer. My book case is behind me. It was an uncomfortable feeling. When I got rid of the egw books and all the sda books I had,it went away.

Elmshaven is located on Glass Mountain Road and is where Ellen died. Glass Mountain, which really is just a large hill is right across the road from her home. It is my understanding that the original indians of the Napa Valley came there to make their arrow heads and believed this location to have 'spirits'. Makes you wonder why Ellen would have wanted to live there.

Maybe, because "spirits" recognize one another?

River; the reason she got such a high standing with SDAs is because she (along with a few others) started the whole religion. It's based mostly on her counsel and "visions."

"The Great Controversy" is very easy to find online for anyone inclined to read it. I just went and read a few lines of it myself.

It is really not light reading material. I came away feeling somewhat dirty and oppressed. It is just a lot of words but what are words? Words are the expression of a mind. The mind behind the "great con" was EGW but what was behind her?

Someday I may read this drivel just for research, but first will come a lot of praying and perhaps fasting. Your going to want to have all your spiritual armor on for this one!

The few lines that I read seemed to come right from the spirit of anti-christ. Approach with caution! YMMV

Agreed, APPROACH WITH CAUTION. I will not read anything written by her. The longer I am away from adventism, the more I see who the spirit behind egw and adventism is. I am sure it is not the God of the Bible.
