We are starting a category for discussion of the podcast topics. You are invited to comment or to join in!

This week the podcast covering the first half of Hebrews 12 went live. If you haven't heard it yet, here is the link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/are-you-being-disciplined-hebrews-12-part-1-63/id1482887969?i=1000486534496

Nikki (Free2Dance) and I will be checking in regularly here, and we'd love to hear your thoughts and questions.

There are two big things that impacted me from this first part of Hebrews 12: first is the fact that God always disciplines His own children—I can know that the hardships I face are not a surprise to God. He is with me, and He is teaching me to trust Him,

The second thing that impacted me is verse 9: we are to come to the Father of spirits and live! We HAVE immaterial spirits! We are not just bodies that breathe...and God is the one who births our spirits with His eternal life!

I'm looking forward to chatting here!

I loved studying Hebrews 12! Well, all of it has been amazing, but Hebrews 11 and 12 (in light of 1-10) was so powerful for me this time through.

What I was most impacted by in this episode was the fact that we are commanded to regularly, carefully, and honestly meditate (all inherent in the greek word) on the ways Christ endured the cross, despising the shame, for the joy that was set before Him-- so that we will not grow weary. I usually just fly by that and read the english word "consider" as "take a minute and recall that". The original inspired language says we are to do far more than simply recall it. This has been a reminder to me in my moments of feeling weary, and I am better able to take those thoughts captive and instead consider Christ.

I have plenty to cause me to grow weary these days and focusing on Christ and His endurance has been surprisingly energizing. It has energized my worship, it has been the strength of my soul, it has energized my prayers, and it has given me hope as I wait on Him to change all the crazy going on around us.

I was also again convicted of the need to set aside any weight and sin that is keeping me from running well with patient endurance. I realized that presently Facebook has been a weight and I've taken a break. It has been so good for me!

And yes, Colleen, the fact that God disciplines us has been an important reminder these days for me, too. We are in the middle of hard times and if we are willing to be trained by them it will produce the fruit of righteousness in us (12:11). I thank God for what He is doing and pray that He will be done with it soon, ha!
