Welcome Speakeasy. This is a good place to ask those questions about legalism. And praying that the Lord will reveal to you the spiritually mature person there near you with whom you can have discussions on this subject as well. All of us here have struggled with questions on legalism and keeping the law. So go ahead and ask your questions.

The first question we like to ask those posting here is, "have you ever received Jesus as your Savior?"

Welcome Speakeasy! Please don't hesitate to ask questions on this forum, I think you will find this a very safe place to open up and get help in finding answers. I know God will lead you as you search for truth and to know His will for you.

A prayer request please: Just last nite we found out my ex-husband is leaving his wife & baby. My daughter is devastated of course (she's 16) - has spent the past nearly 10 years processing and working through the divorce of her parents, is extremely close to her step-mom and dearly loves her baby brother, and now her father is leaving them and running away to the opposite side of the country to apparently be with his "true love." Again, my daughter is so devastated right now. She's always questioned her father's (earthly that is) love for her, and now of course she's even more certain he cares for no one but himself. And of course his wife and child desperately need our prayers as well. Thank you.

Thanks also for your prayers for Julie (my friend with ovarian cancer) - She is about the same. I had a chance to speak with her last weekend, she seemed stable (mentally that is) I guess. She says she knows she is saved, but doesn't say it with great peace or conviction. I think she's just so weary of this battle for her life, and is choosing to believe she is saved out of exhaustion (if that makes sense.) Either way I suppose, WE know she is saved and will have peace and eternal life, just wish for her sake and her family's she had the peace that REAL security in our salvation can bring.

Thanks everyone for your love, prayers, and support. Am not on-line as much - I've started a new job with the school district, back to secretarial work (I think that's why I'm starting to type normal again-it's coming naturally.) I miss the classroom and kids so so so much, but sadly can make a lot more money doing secretarial work because of my experience.

Have a good weekend everyone! Love and prayers, Carol

(P.S. Doug - are you still around and doing OK? Talking about my daughter reminded me of you as I know you've mentioned having children close in age. Jerry, how go the "evangelistic meetings?" Lydell, yes the rain continues in Atlanta too, stay dry and warm! Janet - I go to visit my best friend in Hopkinsville several times a year. Are you anywhere near that area? I'd still love for all us Southeastern girls to get together for something, maybe a Christian Women's Conference in Nashville, Birmingham, or Alabama. Let me know if anyone sees one that looks good and affordable.)

Carol, I will be keeping your needs in prayer. I am so glad God is big enough to be everywhere at once!
I live in Bowling Green, KY, and would love to meet you in person! Hopkinsville isn't that far from here. Just let me know when, and maybe we can work something out :-)
God bless,
Janet

Carol,

So sorry to hear that for your daughter. If nothing else, it will help her understand how he really is and sometimes it's better knowing than living a fairytale. Maybe it will help her to deal with it all. I will keep you both in prayer and though we don't feel he deserves it-your ex. too. I feel for you. :(

Carol, I'm so sorry about your daughter and her dad and step-mom et al. I will also pray for them and continue to pray for Julie.

Speakeasy, I'd like to echo Lydell's question, Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I'll be praying for you, also.

My cousin has requested prayer for her mom, my Aunt. She has had pneumonia for a couple of weeks now and antibiotics aren't working. They did a chest x-ray today and found several masses. They will do another one next week after she has finished this round of antibiotics. She was a smoker for years but has been quit for the past 10 or so. Please pray that it is just the pneumonia and will clear up.

Thanks

Yes, I am saved. I understand the gospel as Paul has wrote it out for us. I feel like I should not be on your forum. For I am not an Adventist or never want to be. I have been to one of Leo Schreven's Siminars and that was almost 2 years ago. It has taken me almost that long to study my way out of the web that he preaches and teaches. I still have some questions but I think most of my questions really come from studying with my Jewish friends. But Soon after his siminar. I got also involved with the Jewish perspective of the Shabbat and there teachings are even more strict and more to all of the Torah and other books that the Jewish people us for guidance such as the Talmud. When people say that the Jewish faith and the Christian faith have some things in commin. I have not found any. In the 2 years I have studyed with them. I have found that it is much harder to study your way out of Judisum. Many things that they teach you can not study your way out of them. Because the Torah rules are almost structured in a way that you can not study and prove your way out. Along with Jewish teachings that we Gentiles break the 4rth Commandment we also break the 1rst and 2nd Commandment. But the hardest one for me at this time is when they try to prove that there is over 5000 mis-qoutes, Corrupted words and versus in the New Testament. How do you Study your way out of that. But please keep praying for me that God will send someone that will come and help me. You can not attack the Law to prove that you are not under the law like you do when you study your way out of the Adventist teachings. It really makes you serve God out of fear and you have many doubts that you do not have when in the Adventist camp. Again pray for the Holy Spirit will send some one my way. By the way the Jewish faith teach's that the Holy Spirit is only a gentile 2000 year old faults teaching. WOW! Again thanks for your prayers.

I must gently suggest that you have lost track of one important aspect of the Christian faith.

Faith

When Paul says, in Second Corinthians, chapter three:

Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code but in the Spirit; for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life.

You must realize that you cannot do, study, obey, observe, calculate, or any other action by yourself and expect to gain favor with God.

We study the Word of God. However, we must study the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit.

START with the Holy Spirit, THEN go to the letters.

The deceiver can use any words for evil.

The Holy Spirit can transform us.

God bless you.

Speakeasy, you do have a real place on this forum. Not all of us are former Adventists!

I want to emphasize what Jerry said above about the Holy Spirit. Jews do believe in the Spirit of God, but the Christian teaching they call false because IT IS CHRISTIAN! It is dependent upon the reality that Jesus was the God/Man who saved us and sent God's Spirit to indwell us. Jews cannot understand the new birth because they do not believe that Jesus has paid for the sins of the universe. If they do not accept Jesus, they cannot experience the new birth.

The really bottom line, Speakeasy, is this: Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God who died to forgive our sins and to give us eternal life? If you do, then you must act on that belief and ask for the Holy Spirit to witness to your spirit the truth in the Bible, the truth about Jesus. If you act in faith, believing that God will honor your desire for truth and make the pages of the Bible come alive by the power of His Spirit, you will begin to understand for yourself the truths of the Bible.

The Bible, both testaments, fit together as a unit. When you begin to read with the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, there is nothing in the New Testament that stands in contradiction to or in confusion with the Old Testament. You must be willing to risk letting go of the fear and the confusion and the "what if the Jews are right" feelings that you have and abandon yourself to Jesus, your Savior and Lord. When you do that, everything begins to make sense.

I'm praying for you.

Colleen

Just to let ya all know I am sending to you from Dr. Patti a note:

====
Just thought y'all would want to know that Mom (Pat) is on the way to the hospital. They are not sure what is wrong with her, but the doctor listed several things that could be very serious, even deadly. If you have time please pray for her and for us that we will be strong and faithful no matter what the outcome. God's will be done.

Amen.

With love,
Patti

Just got this from Dr. Patti,

=============

Good morning.

We have some news about Mom. She has multiple stones in her gall bladder, and they are going to perform surgery on her this afternoon or in the morning to remove the gall bladder. They do not know if this is the full extent of the problem, however, so they are going to continue to run tests on her.

Thank you for your prayers and your phone calls. Please continue with the prayers; and feel free to call. If Mom is not up to talking (which would be very unusual for her :), then Laurie or Dan will be in her room and can give updates. I am flying up to Hot Springs evening.

With love,
Patti

Janet,

You may not know these people, but if you did a key word search here, you will find somethings they have written here.

Also Pat Darnell is the author of a book

All Dressed Up and No Place To Go:
You can read it online at:

http://members.tripod.com/~Help_for_SDAs/AllDressedUp1.html

Pat's story portrays how her family became involved with Adventism in the 1930's, and how the church affected their lives, from kitchen to bedroom, from schoolroom to boardroom. The last chapter shows how the Lord greatly blessed Pat as she studied her way out of this cultic religion
