I prayed for Nathaniel, you and your husband as I read about the accident. I am so glad no one was hurt physically. Emotionally is something else.
I have asked God to remind all of you that no matter what happens in our lives that He is still in charge. "all things work together for good to them that love God". God can make good come out of the not so good.
He is awesome.

I just read about the accident and am so relieved to hear no one was injured. I too have a son who is deeply sensitive and perceptive and I know how paralyzing something like this would be to him. I will be praying for Jesus to comfort and strengthen Nathan and that this experience will help him to grow in some way. As Diana said above, God does work all things together for good of the that love him.

Thank you all for your payers. I know they are strengthening Nathanael; he's much more objective about the incident than he was 24 hours ago, and he isn't showing any signs of withdrawing from driving. In fact, he talked last night about when to sign up for his driving test.

I praise God for the ways he grows us in Him, and I praise Him for giving us the great privilege of praying for each other!

Colleen, I finally got caught up on my reading here on FAF, also...

Our youngest son is nearly Nathaniel's age--with a "permit" also--so I can imagine everyone's feelings involved with this accident.

May Nathaniel (and all of us!) always remember who we are IN CHRIST----loved...secure...and significant!

grace always,

I posted this on the forum, but I want to be sure it is seen and this friend remembered in prayer.
Her name is Alice and is on disability. She is to lose it soon and has no other source of income. Thanks for all your prayers.

Colleen, I've been remembering your family in my prayers. I hope that Nathaniel is getting even more of his courage back.

I have a request. This is something that's very personal, and I wouldn't normally post it publicly, but my husband and I bought a little place out in the country last december, and we've been praying that our old home will sell. It hasn't yet, and God has been teaching me patience and trust as we handle two mortgage payments. He has been faithful and provided, and so things have been good, but with winter coming up, I know it will be more of a burden once again. As I've learned to trust Him, I know He will not fail us, and will take care of us... and it will sell in His timing.

But now, we have told our family of no longer being SDA, and gotten some pretty tough responses. And so now Stephen and I are praying that God will sell our first home so that He can be glorified if it's His will. We have picked up that our family and friends are thinking that it hasn't sold because we left the church (hence God is punishing us). We know this isn't the case, and it's been really weird how it hasn't sold when we've had countless people interested, but financing has always fallen through for one reason or another.

Anyway, if you could just keep our situation in your prayers, we are only wanting God's will in our life, and don't know what he has in mind. And so I am praying for this situation 24/7 for the next month...and would appreciate extra prayers.

Hope you guys are praying for those in the path of this stupid Ivan hurricane. We are some 60 miles from the coast. Yet even here tornadoes are popping up constantly. Nasty nasty stuff tonight! I understand several homes down in Panama City have already been destroyed, and we are still several hours from the eye making landfall.

Thanks Esther. So far we are fine. Thought the worst would be over by now. But it seems the winds are just as strong as last night. Our winds here were 40-50 mph all night.

By the grace of God, we have no trees (30-40 foot pines) down in our yard. Amazingly our power hasn't even gone off so far. I understand that like half a million are without power now.

The storm surge on the coast was massive. We heard on the local news last night that some of the folks who left their homes in the path down on the coast said they had absolutely no expectation of having a home to return to. That would be tough. I remember after Opal seeing one lady on the local news who said she had lost her car, her home, and her job. I think that is something we fail to remember sometimes. The folks can also lose their jobs thru these nasty storms.

Lydell, we are praying for all of you. I'm grateful you still have (had?) electricity--please keep us posted.

What effects are all of you in Florida experiencing? Are you having heavy rains/wind? Last night Richard logged onto the NASA website, and we observed Ivan from the satellite shots of it. It's incredibly big.

I continue to pray for everyone and for the storm to calm.

Only lost electricity this afternoon for a half hour. Some in our area have been without since yesterday afternoon. We lost a couple dozen shingles...and we pray the Lord uses that to help us get a new roof. One would THINK the darned wind would quit blowing by now! HA

We saw the rest of an answer to prayer today! In 1990 a man built two chicken houses about 600 yards from our bedroom windows. 40,000 chickens, including who knows how many roosters, do NOT make good neighbors I'm here to tell you!

From the time we knew his intentions, we began to pray that these houses would be taken out....and the owner had tremendous troubles building them!...didn't want anyone hurt, just the darn things, and the health problems associated with them as neighbors, removed.

We prayed for 5 years, "just one tornado Lord, swoop, no one hurt". We have also always prayed that somehow this whole situation would serve to prosper rather than harm us.

In Hurricane Opal, one tornado touched down on those houses and flattened one of them. Our son was home alone at the time and was hurt and our property untouched. (There was a new owner at the time, a Christian. He had been cheated by the man who sold them to him and had realized he had made a bad move for his own health and the health of his family, as well as his finances. He was in one of the houses at the time the tornado hit and his life was miraculously spared.)

For some bizarre reason, another man came along and bought that piece of property, smashed chicken house, and the other damaged house as well. In addition, he hired the owner of the chicken houses as a foreman for his building business. The young man and his family were absolutely thrilled and saw it as a deliverance.

We have always been a bit concerned that the new owner would try to resurrect that house, or keep something like hogs there. Wouldn't that be pleasant?

Today the other chicken house was damaged beyond any possible use of any part of the structure. no one hurt, we feel sure.

The present owner of that piece of property has been making offers for several years to swap our property for another he owns elsewhere. This would greatly increase the value of the property he now owns, (indeed, without ours, his almost has no value.)

In the natural realm, there is absolutely no way this whole thing makes a lick of sense. Only the slimmest of chances that it could come out well for us, I suspect. I honestly don't see how it could happen. And yet, I feel quietly confident that the Lord IS going to work this to our advantage, in His time.

Okay, that was long, but it was all to make the point that we too often forget how far ahead the Lord is working to answer our prayers. We just give up hope and prayer. But, "before you call, I will answer" is so true. At the moment we pray, He is already in the process of working out the circumstances for the answer. The answer doesn't necessarily come in the way we had prayed for, or the timing we wanted, but the answer does come. Wonder how often we just give it up when the answer has been on the way for quite some time? It just blows me away to think about it, ya know? And it has been just a real encouragement to me today.

Glad everything is turning out Lydell. Ivan dumped a lot of rain on us, lots of flooding around but nothing major and it has already stopped raining, power was out for about 10 minutes last night.

Another one headed for FL possibly, Jean or Gene?? Then I saw they have one Javier headed to S. California. I don't remember ever hearing of hurricanes in the Pacific??

I remember a couple of years ago a preacher (don't remember who) was saying he had a vision or word from God that all of FL would be covered with water. I remember my mom making fun of him.

I mentioned the "prophecy" the other day and she said she didn't remember it but she thought that Ellen White had predicted it.

OH MY!!!!!!!!!

We are planing to take the dreaded trip down there in a couple of weeks. Already tension....

Do any of you go to SDA church when you visit family? Ugh, the thought! Is that receiving one who is weak in the faith or just crazy??

Well, still praying for all in path of Hurricanes and aftermath. Sure doesn't look promising for FL's economy.

Sabra:
In the Pacific they call them typhoons. Most people here in Central Florida have decided to leave their windows covered with plywood (makes for a very dark house) until the end of hurricane season, mid Nov. Jeann seems to be heading our way, we are hoping she will change her mind and go out to sea. Which church would you be visiting? We don't go to any SDA church even when we visit family, can't handle it.
Hope we have nice weather for you when you come.

Guess I have never heard of any typhoons around the US??

They go to Winter Springs SDA. I just feel sick about it. I mean, she goes with me when she visits, I'm sure, so that I will do the same, but then if I don't, she might not, ya know.

Are you in Orlando? I'm not wishing you all any hurricanes, just maybe a big threat of one about the time I'm supposed to go, then it can go another way after I cancel my trip. We always plan to go during the week to avoid the whole Fri/Sat issue, this time it's not going to work out that way. I know she is going to ask me to sing there too. Maybe I just should sing "Oh, Glory Hallelujia, Lord, let the Holy Ghost Come On Down." Do you all know that one? That would really be funny.

I don't know why it has to be so difficult. I mentioned maybe a get together for all of the birthdays in October--we have 5. Didn't say anything about what day to have it. My mom spouts off, "well, I'm sure not going to miss church and I'm not doing any birthday party on the Sabbath!"

Good grief. It's almost comical if it weren't so sad. What is the deal with some cake and ice cream on the "Sabbath"? (Scribes and Pharisees and hypocrites)

My semi-pentecostal/SDA cousin says she will have it at her house on Saturday and mom can go if she wants to. She also said my mom hardly ever goes to church anyways.

Sigh!

Sabra, I think our moms might be one in the same - mine lives on the west coast though! What a sadness comes over me when I read your entry above. At the cost of damaging precious relationships, they have to get their little comments made. I am sure they see it as witnessing. If there ever was a reason to leave the SDA church (besides the glorious rest in Jesus 24/7) it would be for the desire to love my children unconditionally. I want them to remember me by my joyful Christian life not my dark, gloomy, snide remarks. Only through His indwelling Spirit in my life...Praise God!

Sabra, I live in Orlando. Who pastors the Winter Spring church? I go to a very small church (35 mem) that rents the rec room at Kress. They are young, mission oriented and very, very, friendly. They have decided to have life groups on Sun and meet once a month for celebration worship. I was so dissapointed when they announced that, but everyone tells me that they can't wait to get back in groups because they felt more connected to God
My fam. doesn't mind celebrating bdays on Sat.as long as it isn't a party. Now, if Christmas is on a Sat we have to try to figure how we can all get together another day. My mom will read the newspaper on Sat but won't turn on the tv to see the news. Isn't it the same thing?. My mom lives alone, I call her in the evenings and on Sat evenings when I ask her how her day's been she says how bored she was, that she can only read so much (bad eyesight). I feel so sad because in reality the Sabbath is a boring, tiring day for her
I would love to meet you in person, your posts have been a great blessing to me. We'll pray that this vacation will be different.
God bless

Esther,
I've been wondering if you've had any good news on your house-for-sale situation?

I know about those messages about not being blessed because of leaving Adventism! My husband was told we would never be blessed unless we returned and...

1) started keeping the Sabbath again
2) paid tithe

It is so good to know the REALITY! JESUS! We are already blessed IN CHRIST! And we live only for an "audience of One".

Lydell,
Thanks for reminding me how God works to answer our prayers--always for our best--in His perfect timing!

Sabra,
I pray your trip to your mothers' will glorify God.

I personally have come to the feeling that I can only go to an Adventist church again for a funeral or wedding. It is something each of us must decide for themselves.

For me, attending with them only continued the denial of reality... and gave them false hopes of my reurning to the "fold".

I know God will direct you as to the best way to proceed!

grace always,
cindy

Sabra, I pray that your visit with your mom will honor God. I also have decided that weddings and funerals are the only times I go to Adventist churches. It sounds as if your mom actually has ambivalence herself--she needs Jesus. I pray that your visit will bring Him clearly into focus for her.

Isn't SDA church and a funeral the same thing?

Ooops! :X

Jeanette, I'd love to meet you! Maybe you can come to the Winter Springs church with me.LOL! I have no idea who pastor's the church, it changes so often. My mother tells me the preacher doesn't preach the Word, just dumb stories. (and she can't miss it for a birthday get together)

Yes, Colleen, she needs Jesus and recovery of sight to the blind! Keep praying!

Thanks all for your encouragement. I'll probably end up going because if I don't, she wont go with me when she comes and they are really blessed by going to church with us. They even say they like it.

Once before she asked me if I would go and I told her I didn't know, they might put me in a circle and try to exorcise me. She said, "oh, they aren't like that!"

Sabra,

You are hilarious! It's nice to read funny postings because it breaks up a time that is so serious and concerning.

Semi-pentecostal" too cute!

Take care!
