Going to FL tomorrow! God has spared me! The person is charge did not get back to my mom about me singing (I told her they didn't want any apostates singing!) WHEW!

I was asked to sing 2 songs, however, at my sister's church.

Then Sunday night at church Pastor Ron mentioned that the Lord had told him for the church to go where we are celebrated, not tolerated.

I thought it was a Word for me.

Thank you all for your prayer and encouragement!

If you ever need to sing at an SDA church, "The Old Account" is a good one! :-)

Great news about your singing Sabra. Probably for the best.

I have a prayer request. As I mentioned on the Great Controversy thread, I have been asked by a pastor friend of mine to talk to an Adventist guy who wants to work in his childrenís mission.

I have only heard his story from George, but it goes something like this. His name is DÈnes (Dennis) and he got saved and baptised in the Spirit about twenty years ago and was active in various forms of mission work. At some point he attended the Christian Advent Fellowship Bible school (the same one Gyula went to), and they managed to convince him that Adventists are right. This college has only been going around twelve years (as an independent Adventist college), so he was saved for a while before this happened. Anyway, he joined CAF, but unlike Gyula, he could not get on with the people so he ended up going over to the Seventh-day Adventists. He has since graduated from the SDA Bible College as well. He has always wanted to be involved with mission work, and would like to serve the Lord, but for some reason or other, the SDAs do not accept him, and are not willing to use him, so he is frustrated. We do not know why this is, maybe it is because he started off with CAF and the two groups hate each otherís guts, or maybe for other church-political reasons, who knows? If it is anything like any of the other churches in this country, they are mostly controlled by family dynasties, so anyone coming in from outside has no chance.

Because he wants to be involved in ministry, he has asked to help George, but George has said he does not want an Adventist working with children, as he may have a hidden agenda. George thinks he is genuine, but has asked me to talk to him.

We have spoken on the phone and I am going to see him next Wednesday afternoon, after teaching college in the morning (he lives in Budapest). So, could you please pray for me that I will know how to approach this, and the Holy Spirit will go before me and prepare the way. I do not feel like getting into silly arguments with people who do not want to listen, I have had enough of that, but I want to be obedient and do what God wants.

So thank you all in advance for your help,

God bless,
Adrian

I feel even if he doesn't have a hidden agenda, he won't be able to stop himself from spreading "the truth" to a bunch of young impressionable minds.

If he really wants to get involved, let him do an adult class...I wouldn't trust him with the kids.

Adrian, I will pray for your discussion with him--for your wisdom and insight and for words from the Holy Spirit. I will also pray for truth to be known.

I tend to share Pheeki's concern--but I sense you do, also. One cannot teach the pure gospel if he embraces doctrines of demons, as Paul called them.

With prayers for God's wisdom and revelation for you,
Colleen

I guess the correct title is "The Old Account Was Settled." It is an old gospel song/hymn. Johnny Cash sang it. You can see the lyrics here.

It is certainly anti-IJ. ;-) To make it even more so, you can easily change the last two lines of the Refrain to: "All my sins are blotted out, and my record's clear today, 'Cause the old account was settled long ago." :-)

I have put you and your conversation with the SDA in my prayer book. Let us know what happens.
God is still in charge and is awesome.

Dear all,

I have been praying about how to approach my talk with DÈnes, which as far as I know is still on for Wednesday lunchtime (in Budapest, so that is early in the morning for most of you good people). I feel a bit nervous about it, so I would certainly value your prayers at that time.

I think I would rather avoid talking about distinctive doctrines, if I can possibly get away with it, as I would just get frustrated, and we would probably get no-where anyway. I thought of taking the approach of how to recognise a cult. I have made the following notes, though I may not get to use all of it.

What characterises cults?

Most important questions: way of salvation, source of information, central figure, one true church.

Way of salvation - Biblical - Eph 2: 8-9

Faith in Christ - leads to - Salvation - leads to - Changed life, good works

Cultic way - Gal 1: 6-9; 3: 1-5; 10; 5: 1-4

Faith in Christ + works, obedience to teaching of group - may lead to (uncertain) - Salvation

Source of information - Biblical - 2 Tim 3: 16

Authority is in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

Cultic - 1 Cor 4: 6

Authority is extra-Biblical, either other writings or unique Biblical interpretations

Central figure - Biblical - Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God, the head of the church - John 14: 5; 1 John 5: 11-12, Col 1: 15-18

Cultic - some other messiah, teacher, prophet, founder, apostle, pope, pastor, president, head, guru, etc. - Mat 24: 23-25

True church - universal with local manifestations - no denominations in the Bible

True believers are characterised by belief in Christ, love for one another (1 John 3: 21-24), holiness of life (1 John 3: 9-10), they fulfil the Great Commission (Mat 28: 18-20) and in these things they are led by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8: 12-14).

Cultic - we are the one true church (always claimed) for any and every criterion other than the above.

Examples, we are the only church that: has an unbroken apostolic succession leading back to Peter; uses "Jehovah" the true name of God; baptises in "the name of Jesus" only; keeps the true Sabbath; has a restored priesthood; basically, just pick one.

I would appreciate your comments,
Thanks,
Adrian

Adrian, I like your list. I will pray that God will give you the words to say, the inisght and wisdom to understand what needs to be addressed, and the internal rest and peace that will allow Him to redirect the conversation if that is where God knows it should go.

You are well-prepared; rest in Jesus and allow Him to teach you what to say at the moment it's needed. I also pray that you will have great discernment and will be able to preceive the truth about DÈnes' attitudes and relative openness. God is already in the future, and He has appointed this meeting between the two of you. He is sovereign!

With prayers for you,
Colleen

She is having surgery again tomorrow and her Dr. called her tonight to tell her that her stress test shows a "questionable problem" with her heart. Adrian,

Sorry I didn't see this sooner but I did pray for you and your friend just now. Let us know how it went. Could you get across that maybe God wants him to work for Him and not any denomination?

Jeanette,

Praying for your friend.

Thanks for your prayers. The Dr. had to place a drain in her forearm. They are going to have to do another surgery after they get the infection under control. Sorry for all the grammatical errors in the last post.
Sabra, did you make to Fl yet?

I have another prayer request. My younger sister did not raise her children SDA, THANK YOU GOD. Her youngest son married a girl who had been raised Mormon. She does not practice what she was raised or she would not have married my nephew. She does not try to influence him toward the Mormons either. In the almost 2 years since I have been here this young lady has started reading the Bible, starting with the OT, to learn all the Bible stories. She told me she had never heard them. Tonight at her 3 yr old daughter's b/day party I asked her, as I left, if she was still reading the Bible and she replied yes and that she had bought a children's Bible for her 4 year old son to read to him. Her parents are good Mormons. I will call her S. I had told S why I no longer considered myself SDA and tonight I told her that the gospel is Jesus, his birth, life, death and resurrection. She listened and agreed. I was sharing what I have learned, a little at a time. So, I see God working in her life and would appreciate it if all of you would remember S and her husband M, my nephew, in your prayers. I do not know how he is with God or if he is seeking, but S is seeking and needs many prayers. I am so thankful my sister did not raise her children SDA. At least they will not have all that to contend with. When I see God working in some one's life I am reminded how awesome He is.

Jeanette,
I am putting your friend on my prayer list. As a therapist I have done therapy with many hand injuries. God is amazing in how he made our bodies. Our hands are an amazing piece of the body. I am awed by God's work.

I have a couple of urgent prayer needs. Just remember to pray for JOE. The first Joe is my neighbor. As I write, I can look accross the street at his house. But, Joe isn't there. He is in the hospital fighting the very last effort of his battle with cancer. Joe doesn't know Jesus and until recently, he hasn't believed that there is anything after this life. Now, he is beginning to have some secret doubts that are creeping into his conversation. His time is short, so pray that the Holy Spirit will make Joe His own. Jesus said that "all the Father gives to Me will come to Me. And he to comes to ME, I will never cast away." I believe it, so please join me in praying the Joe is made His.

The second Joe is my grandson. He's only 14 but having some very serious health problems. Doctors have been testing at some very exotic levels for several weeks but can't seem to find any reasons. He is unable to attend school, and can not do anything physical. The things they are looking at could be very serious. Joes mom and dad are both believers and their faith is strong. Joe, accepted Jesus just a month before his problems began. Please remember Joe and his parents, my son and beautiful daughter in law.

It is so great to know that when you are in the arms of Jesus, nothing else matters, at all!

In His Grace
<><

Thomas,
I have put the two Joes in my prayer book that I keep here by my computer.
God is holding them in His hands.
