Thanks for the report, Lori. Praying for your dad.

Brian3, how did your mom's surgery go?

Colleen,

Brian3's mom (my m-i-l) came through surgery fine. It took about 7 hours. She is still in ICU but is progressing as expected. There have been some radical fluctuations in her blood pressure, but that is, according to the doctor, normal. She'll be in the hospital for at least another week. Please continue to keep her in your prayers, but also pray for his dad. It's tough to take care of yourself and have a loved one in the hospital with such a serious condition. It's even tougher when you're almost 70. Then add to the mix a parent (Brian3's g-mother) living with you who is in her 90's. His dad is really under a lot of pressure right now. Fortunately they have many good friends in the area (SLC) and many have stepped up and offered their assistance.

Our older son Roy has two roommates. One is an emergency room resident at Loma Linda (a Christianónever been Adventist) and the other is a sophomore engineering student at UC Riverside, also a Christ-follower.

Last night the sophomore, named Jesse, was driving back from Reno where he had visited his girlfriend yesterday. Early this morning he fell asleep, just a few miles from home. He was traveling at night because he had to fill in on the guitar in the praise band for the Spanish congregation at our church this morning.

He fell asleep and apparently ran into a semi. About a half hour before the church service was to start, Roy got word that Jesse had been admitted to the hospital in a coma and apparently brain-dead. Roy had to pinch-hit for Jesse, playing keyboard in his stead for the band. He had a terrible time focussing, realizing that he was playing for his roommate who was near death.

Richard and I just came back a couple hours ago from the hospital. Jesse is on a ventilator, but apparently his brain is in better shape than at first feared. He has some small areas of bleeding, but he showed signs of purposeful movement.

As I write this, Jesse is in surgery. He has two fractures of his left femur, one a compound break, and he also has a severe break in his left arm. They are setting both limbs in a surgery estimated to last four to five hours.

Jesse's parents just moved this summer to Idaho, relocating with Mission Aviation Fellowship which just moved its home office from Redlands to near Boise. His father is, as I write, flying down from Idaho.

I'm asking for prayer for Jesse and for his family, that God will bring healing, peace, hope, and comfort, and that He will be glorified in this in ways we cannot see. And I praise Him that Jesse is alive and that it seems the prognosis is better than it seemed when he was admitted.

For all the things you mentioned, and for Roy too. And thanking God for the things he has already done in this situation.

I'm praying, Colleen.

Lord, I don't know what to say, but thank You for Your love and Your hand in this situation. Please fill everyone with Your peace, and please restore Your son Jesse if it's Your will. We'll praise You somehow through whatever comes, Jesus. Thank You, and please make Yourself known in all of this. We can't wait to go home and be with You. Amen.

Colleen,

Praying for Jesse and his family and for Roy and your family as well as you deal with this shock.

So glad that things are not as bad as at first feared! I'm agreeing in prayer with you for
"healing, peace, hope, and comfort" and that God will use this to His glory.

I am also praying for you as God uses you to share His powerful, healing love. I am praying Roy, Jesse and Jesse's family feel God's presence in a real way through this horrific experience.

Our daughter has three great roommates and two or three very close friends. I fear how devastated she/we would be if anything similiar were to happen to any one of her roommates or close friends.
I am praying for Jesse. He will have a full and quick recovery.
His family will find peace and strength as they trust in the Lord for the outcome.
All of Jesse's friends, including Roy and family(you, Colleen and Richard)will be comforted by one another, knowing God will manifest Himself to them in a mighty way.
The medical staff will receive wisdom and undeniable skill as they tend Jesse's broken body.
For all to honor and glorify our Sovereign God whatever the outcome in this waiting.
God gives and takes away; and we say Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
Even in the suffering, we will say, Blessed be the name of the Lord.

So many prayers needed - I'm praying for all of you.

I also have one. Yesterday a friend from Church fell off a ladder and has a serious head injury. He was rushed to the trauma hospital here for surgery. He had part of his skull removed to allow for swelling, but the prognosis doesn't look good. He and his wife just moved a couple of hours away and I miss them so much. They haven't even finished unpacking. Also they have just adopted their grandson (6 years old). So, this is a very sad event.

I am praying for God's will to be done. But I want him to recover fully and continue doing all the good work he does for the Lord. They have been the hosts for our weekly Bible Study group up until they moved. They also have played a huge part in the operation and sustaining of our small Church. Their Christian witness in their respective work places is amazing. In short, they are on fire for the Lord and really live it in their lives. It just doesn't seem the right time for him to die, or remain in a coma - but that is ME speaking!

So, I ask for your prayers for him, and for his family, and friends also, as we all deal with this. Thanks.

Praying for you all, Colleen, Roy, and Jesse and family.
Lori and Family.
Brian and Family.
Tisha's friend and his family.

Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

Just a quick updateóJesse's surgery lasted close to 12 hours. They found his elbow was broken into about 19 pieces, and they had to reconstruct it. He has not regained consciousness, but they have kept him heavily sedated. Tonight they are planning to begin cutting back on meds and perhaps the ventilator tomorrow and see how he does. Thank you so much for all your prayers.

I know Roy is grateful; this is the roommate whom he saw the most because the other one spends so much of his waking life in the E.R. So Roy is feeling this experience deeply.
