Melissa,
Seeing a loved one suffer is hard to watch. My mom passed away this past July from cancer - not sure what kind, but after the diagnosis, she went home to be with the Lord two months later. Like your mom, she was placed on heavy medication which at the end of her life made her comatose and incoherent. It is not something anyone should have to watch their loved one go through.

And yet, whenever I think about my mom or when I read your story, there is this overwhelming sense of peace that I can never really understand. Knowing that your mom will be with our Lord and Savior, in His arms, in that promise of Rest as Hebrews 4 talks about, is something I know that she, as we all, look forward to one day!

May our Father wrap His arms of comfort, of peace, of quiet stillness around you, your family and your mom! He's with us every breath that we take!! Cling to Him!

I'll be praying for you :-)!

Melissa, I'm loosing my FIL to pancreatic cancer too. I cried after I got off the phone with him on Christmas Day, knowing I would never have another chance to wish him Merry Christmas. He's had all the chemo he can have, and the tumor is growing.

I'm remembering you in a special way today, for your soul to be comforted.

Love, Diana

Praying for you also, Diana and for your husband and his family. It is difficult to know they are dying. When I went to see Mom not long after she was told she had pancreatic cancer, I told her that when ever she wanted to let go it was okay with me. I think all of her kids told her that. Praying for you and Melissa.

Thanks for everyone's comments. My mother passed away at 4:14 local time this morning. She died very peacefully.

Diana, my mother was able to have the whipple surgery, because hers was caught early, but they told us the tumor would return and it only bought her a little more time. Once the tumor started growing again, they tried chemo, but it just made her sick constantly. She quit chemo and died within a few weeks. It's a hard cancer! We were very lucky the pain meds worked so well. Hope your FIL has such a comfortable time.

I just wanted to put this out there. Last night, a classmate of my husband Wayne was killed by a drunk driver in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. His name was Lance Shetler. He graduated from San Diego Academy in 1984. He was only 42 and left behind a wife and 3 kids. Wayne was really shook up about it, not only for losing an old friend, but the fact that they were the same age as well as having young kids. Lance was one of the nicest, friendliest guys you'd ever meet. In fact, his Dad has cancer and Lance has been spending time taking him to the doctor and looking after him.

Please pray for this family. I can't imagine the pain they will be dealing with.

Lannie, I will put this family on my prayer list. I have a friend who lives in the DFW area who is a prayer warrior. I will ask him to pray also for this family.

Diana, I'm praying for your family and FIL as well.

Leigh Anne, I'm praying for your family and husband and the Shetler family. Are they Adventist? What a tragedy!

Thanks everyone. Joyfulheart, yes, as far as I know the Shetlers are SDA.

This has been such a sad couple of days. Some of you may have heard that our friend Ron Durham (Surfy) lost his mom yesterday as well. His wife said (over in facebook) that he was taking care of his mom in hospice until she passed away.

Praise God that we have the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit, as well as prayer warriors like all of you.

Love,
Lannie

I'm praying for Surfy and the Shetlers as well.
