Kristine:
I can relate to what you're saying because as a member of the sda church I thought we were mainstream in our theology in that we believed in righteousness by faith. My parents were very liberal on the sabbath and i looked at the sabbath positively. I loved Morris Vendon and others sermons on righteousness by faith (rbf). But I can tell you I didn't have an assurance of salvation and the reason was even though rbf was taught there were always buts thrown in. Vendons was, but you must maintain your relationship with God. Then I would think well how do i now when i've done enough and also this put the effort on my part which is a form of works. These problems i believe are from the underpinning of all theology around EGW and not the bible only. Anyway I hope that helps, I don't like to post as I am worried I will say the wrong things.

Hey Jeff,
It was good hearing from you. I also fret when I post because I never seem to be able to put my thoughts into words, but I do it anyway!
So hope to hear from you again.

Jeff, looks good to me.
dwayne, it's sick theology which takes the blood which represents Christ's righteousness and makes it represtent sin.
Science tells us that we get our blood from our mothers. The Bible is clear that we get our sin nature through the seed (father) not the blood (mother). Jesus got his blood from His mother, but the "seed" came from the Holy Spirit. This shows He could not have had a sin nature as EGW taught.

I vote that we make Lynn an Honorary Former Seventh Day Adventist. We need to work on some sort of diploma to frame and send to her. WDYT?
(If she will accept it)! She really should be a phull phedged phormer.

I have a heavy heart tonight and I'm asking for some ideas from you guys. My 10 yr old daughter came home from school (sda school), and told me they are studying Ellen White. She told me Ellen had over 2000 visions,an angel guided her, she was responsible for starting their school (near Elmshaven)etc. etc.

There are so many non SDA's in her school, the doctrine is not usually pushed, at least not up til now. And then again, why should I complain or be surprised, after all, it is a SDA school.

I muddled through telling her why I thought Ellen White was confused, and that Adventists should be going by what the Bible says instead of what Ellen White says. I was surprised at how hard it was for me to try to explain this mess to my 10 yr. old.

I feel so saddened and confused at the same time, it's hard to tell her what her teacher is telling her is wrong. So ok you guys what would you do??

I would be interested in some feedback or maybe someone else has had a similar circumstance.
God Bless

Hi Cas,

Do you feel it's your responsibility to contradict her teachers? Why did you put her in an SDA school? Why not a public school?

Cas,

We had two boys in the local SDA academy when we
decided that we could no longer call ourselves
Adventist. Our oldest was in 9th grade, the
youngest in 5th grade.

The 9th grader was having a very difficult time
trying to be a Christian in a school where
religion was made fun of. Both boys were living
two lives: SDA at school and Christian at home.

We did have some resistance to the idea of moving
them to an inter-denominational Christian school,
but after one visit, they were sold. We could
sense the presence of the Holy Spirit, very unlike
the SDA school.

Moving our boys out of the SDA school has turned
out to be a pivital point in ours and our boys
lives.

My recommendation to you, Cas, is to pray for help
in making the change, but I believe you should
move your daughter, at least for next school year.
There must be a good Christian school in St.
Helena--if not in Napa. It would be worth the
drive!

That is my thought exactly. I would NEEEEEEEVER SEND MY CHILD TO AN SDA SCHOOL!!!!!!!! I would send them to 47 Catholic/Hebrew/?, schools first! My reasoning is this; when they go to an obviously secular school or a "religious" school that you have no ties to, you can go in teaching them the right way and warning them about the false teaching they will encounter. Sending them to an SDA school is like an alcoholic buying or managing a saloon? It is JUST to close to the stuff he's trying to leave behind and he WILL eventually let his guard down and the enemy will strike!

Grow eyes on your back.

If you are fortunate enough to find a Christian school like Richard and Colleen did, you are blessed, many times over. I can tell you that their two boys are from my point of view, an outsider, a parents prayers and dreams come true!

Really sincerely....Maryann

Cas, I really sympathize with your dilemma.

I'm going to dove-tail with Richard's post to you.
During our protracted period of "leaving", we were
completely open with the boys about what we were
discovering. As we began to believe EGW was false,
we told them, and we explained why.

By the time we pulled them from the Adventist
school, it was our 11-year-old who stunned me with
his insight into the situation. I was talking to
him about why we were putting them in a new
school, and I asked him, in the course of
conversation, what the problem was with EGW.

"She was a false prophet," he said.

"Where did her visions come from, then?" I asked.

"Satan," he answered.

It was then I had the idea that I believe God gave
me at that moment. Because Ellen had false visions
from Satan, satan has a claim on anything
Adventist because he was in its inception.

I absolutely believe you have an obligation to
tell your daughter the truth you believe. God gave
our children to us to train and rear, not people
whom we don't trust.

Ultimately, it was our kids that made us decide we
had to leave. We discussed that we couldn't model
integrity to them if we clung on to the church for
the sake of convenience if we didn't believe what
it taught.

We'll pray for you, Cas.

It is often easier for children to be Christian in a non-Christian (or secular) environment (such as a public school) than in a supposedly Christian environment (such as an SDA school). I speak from experience, having been both places. And I will have to confess that the amount of smoking, drugs, drinking, dirty jokes, foul language and sex I saw in our tiny SDA jr. academy I attended was many times greater than what I saw in the public schools.

HI, Cas,

I want to say first that I will be praying for you.....for the moment you are doing what you need to do.....confronting the situation with your daughter and giving her the information to counteract it. At this point in the year, there is little else to do, but for her to complete the assignment just like anything else she would be required to do, I would suggest focusing her on it as Adventist history, not as truth, but simply the history of Adventism, while at the same time going over the material together and pointing out the misinterpretation, using the 'Sword' to separate truth from deception. This actually could be a blessing, a perfect time to show your daughter why Adventism is opposed to Christianity.

I would also begin to look for a non-denominational school for her to attend in the coming year. This could be God's way of showing you the danger of the SDA school system.

It only gets worse, when I was in boarding academy in '81 and '82, we were required to memorize huge sections of Ellen White. (I'm going to tell on myself now!!!) I refused to do it!! Fortunately, for my grade, the Bible test was an open Bible test and I simply wrote all the EGW in the 'empty' pages of my Bible and copied on to my test paper. --I know that was wrong to cheat, because it was cheating even though it was an open Bible test and even though those words were written IN my Bible. (See how easily you can keep the letter of the law and still be VERY wrong!) The point is, if you don't want you child exposed to great amounts of EGW then you need to pull her out of the SDA school.
I have been there. My child went to the Adventist school for a grand total of five days!!!! When I told them he wouldn't be back on Monday, I was pulling him out......they were very rude, told me how sorry I would be that I took him out and that they would be here for me when I finally came to my senses and they would 'let' him come back. The principal told me my reason for pulling him out was not a good one and that she knew I would be back (with my tail between my legs). That was three years ago and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Thanks you guys for the responses to our school problem. The consenses from all, that I find another school is what I have been thinking I would have to do.

Jude-The reason she is in this school is because she started going there from Kindergarden to 4th, which she is in now. When she started school, I was a dedicated Adventist. My husband went to this little school, and her cousins go to this school.

Depending on if we find a house to buy, the problem will be solved and we can find a good christian school.
Thanks for your prayers. God Bless you all.
