Thanks Steve, for posting this "Who I am in Christ". I have copied it for a few friends who have appreciated it; also I've used it in a Sabbath School Superintendent message and had 3-4 very positive responses to it. Many honest seekers are in the SDA church, I feel.

I thought you'd be interested to hear of one (Adventist) friend with whom I was having a lengthly discussion on various problems of the Remnant theology and EGW. At the end of our conversation, I remembered I had a copy of "Who I am in Christ" in my Bible, so thought he might enjoy it also. But when I offered it to him saying it showed all the wonderful promises we have in Christ, he refused to take it!! I really felt bad... I told him it was all from the Bible and he said they were probably just texts pulled out of context and he did not want to bother reading it. This from a guy who is really a liberal type thinking Adventist and enjoys spiritual discussions , too.

Later, upon reflection, I think he may have felt threatened with our conversation about the problems with EGW and
whether or not those who have left the SDA church have "Apostasized" (that is the term used for those who leave... other than that, you can be Transferred officially to another Adventist Church (not another denomination!), catorgorized as Missing, or declared Dead. I think those are the only options. If by Apostacy they meant denial of the SDA beliefs it would be one thing, but the term is meant apostacy from Christ and His True Church. I guess they can't help but think that considering their Remnant beliefs...

I am now, by believing, at Rest in Christ alone,
Matthew 11:28
Hebrews 4:3

Praise God, Cindy.

I've been telling folks of some of those promises. Some folks say "Amen" while others seem to hide and slink back into the shadows when presented with such beautiful messages from Scripture.

Kinda shows what light some folks prefer!

Hi Steve,

I've been wondering which corner of the earth you fell off of. Good to see you.

Hi Maryann,

Thanks for wondering. Was tackled by the lesser light. But I'm getting back up and dusting myself off.

Hi Steve, Good for you!! (getting back up after being "tackled by the lesser light") I don't know about your specific circumstances, but I will echo Paul's letter to the Ephesians...

"Be strong in the Lord and in His might power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:10-13

Paul goes on to explain the full armor of God. I love that all the terms are focused on JESUS CHRIST!!

He is our belt of TRUTH! "Jesus answered, 'I am the way,and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

He is our breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS! "It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 1:30,31

He is our gospel of PEACE! "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier. the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility." Ephesians 2:14-16

He is the true shield of FAITH! By faith alone in His finished work is our only hope. "After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." Genesis 15:1

He is our SALVATION! "then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.' Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:10-12

He is the one who bestows the HOLY SPIRIT on us who believe in Him. "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory." Ephesians 1:13,14

He is the true WORD OF GOD to which all scriptures point to and testify of. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men." John 1:1,2 And also, "you diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." John 5:39,40

Blessings to all. May we all have the prayer of Paul as he concludes in Ephesians 6:19 "pray also for me that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel...".

As always, under grace alone,
Cindy
