A contact lens, a prayer, and an ant

Although Brenda was scared to death, she went rock climbing with friends on a difficult granite cliff. In spite of her fear, she put on the gear, took hold of the rope and started up the face. Upon reaching a ledge, she stopped to catch her breath. As she was hanging there, the safety rope snapped against her eye, knocking out a contact lens.

Unable to see clearly, on a rock ledge with hundreds of feet below and hundreds of feet above, she searched everywhere. It was nowhere. Dangling on the granite face, vision blurred, and desperate, she prayed, ìLord, help me find the contact lens.î

When Brenda reached the top a friend checked her eye and all her clothes. No lens. Despondently, she sat down. She looked across the mountains, range after range, and thought of the Bible text, "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth." She thought, "Lord, you see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf. You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

After the last climber had reached the top, they walked to the bottom. A new party of climbers were starting up the face. One of them shouted, ìHey, you guys! Anyone lose a contact? Thereís an ant carrying one. Saw a flash and there it was.î

Later Brendaís father, a cartoonist, drew a picture of an ant lugging a contact lens. The ant is saying, ìLord I donít know why you want me to carry this thing. I canít eat it and itís heavy, but if itís what You want me to do, Iíll carry it for you.î

We donít need to know the purpose of our task before we serve Him. The ant never knew. Nor do we need to insist on becoming qualified before we carry it out. God doesnít call the qualified; He qualifies those he calls.

Great story, and for those of us who are blind without our contacts, it's very appreciated. What a blessing to know God in such a personal way!
