Hi Maryellen,

Welcome! Reading Hebrews, and in particular, Hebrews 4 has been a great help to me. Here are some thoughts:

God set a certain day and called it TODAY. There is a SABBATH REST for the people of God. We are to make every effort to enter that rest.

What this means to me is; God set aside a day and called it TODAY. TODAY is what day? It is the day you accept the LORD. It is the day your relationship begins with the Lord. It is the day that your ETERNAL relationship begins with the LORD! That is the SABBATH REST from your OWN works. It is the belief and faith in the completed work of Jesus.

This is a very short and simple explanation as this is the guest book area. As Lydell suggested, lets go over to another thread and continue. There are so many great discussions on so many different threads! One thread called Puzzled may be of interest to you. A gal started it that is an SDA convert of about 8 years. It is a long line, but covers a lot of issues that you would enjoy reading. (and please excuse some of my light hearted humor in that line!)

What is your background? It sounds like you "Have Faith"! How is it that you are involved with the SDA? It really sounds interesting.

Hope to hear more from you.

Onward and upward.....Maryann

Maryellen:

The book Sabbath in Chris is a good book but quite exhaustive in its content. Many people just do not wish to spend hundreds of hours looking into most every detail of something. If you wish to study the Sabbath to the maximum, I would suggest that book among several. If you wish to get enough material to protect yourself from error and still not bog yourself down in hours and hours of study, I suggest the following web sites:

http://millennium.fortunecity.com/lincoln/666/zondersab

http://www.soundofgrace.com/tablets/tos.html

http://millennium.fortunecity.com/lincoln/666/puzzle/page4.html

http://millennium.fortunecity.com/lincoln/666/nct.html

http://www.bible.ca/7-main.htm

You can read most everything above in several hours or less and get a true picture of the Sabbath and the old covenant. The first link above if from Zondervan Bible Publishers and is quite well done.

Maryellen, I still recommend Ratzlaff's book Sabbath in Crisis. If you are an Adventist, (and I don't think you are!) his book Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventists is also good.

God's law, as you might read on one of our threads on this website, is not the Ten Commandments. Those were his laws for the nation of Israel, given to them when he brought them out of Egypt UNTIL the Seed (Jesus) would come.

Now we live under the law of God or the law of Christ. That is the law written on our hearts by the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The law of Christ in our hearts requries us to rest in Jesus every day of our lives, not just one in seven.

You also might try Dale Ratzlaff's website: ratzlaf.com

Welcome to our forum!

We on this web do not know who QUESTION is or what
are his intentions, and they may be good.

But we do not know who he is or anything about
him.

Question, I do not say this to be mean. could you
let us know a little bit about yourself.

I am a friend of this site. I was one of the first ones to post something in this forum way back when. I started and maintain one of the larger web sites on Adventism,

The SDA-EGW Historical Society.

I fight to do one of two things 1: Change Adventism to true Christianity, or 2: Change Adventism from the title "Christian" to CULT. Adventism cannot have it both ways. It should not have the rights and privileges of mainstream Christianity while steadfastly holding to such aberrant teachings as the Investigative Judgment and the necessity of keeping the Sabbath and other old covenant laws. She (the Church) must also walk away from EGW to be called Christian.

Many of you know me by my real name, Gary Mayo. Upon my return here in recent months I was blind sided by a close friend so I now post most every message on this and other outside sites as "Question".

I maintain my SDA membership so I can work as one of them. They cannot say I am an outsider because I am a member of that Church and will be until they throw me out at a long and winded trial front and center in a Church of two thousand members. The Church does not want that so they let me work quietly in the background.

Again let me say that I am a supporter of your message and a brother in Christ Jesus. Visit my web sites anytime.

I want to thank all of you who responded so kindly
and quickly to my question regarding the Sabbath.
I became a born again christian in 1975 and I never had so many doubts about my salvation until now.I still believe that I'm saved because I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior but I can't help feeling so intimidated by all the facts that my boss shows me regarding the Sabbath. I will buy those books that some of you recommended. I have been praying for God to show me the truth and I really believe that He led me to your web-site. thank you all so much!!!!

Maryellen

That is the purpose of the Law to condemn. And
the purpose of ADVENTISM is for you to question
your salvation. There are very few Adventist that
know that they are saved, and you know that the
Gospel says that it is by faith that you are Born
Again. How can you be born again without faith,
you can not.

Maryellen you need to do a study of the Old and
New Covenant, Most and I mean most Adventist as
well as other Christians do not understand the Old
and New Covenant. This will give you the answeres
that you are hunting for. Also if you call 1- 877
EGW MYTH and give me your name and number and
address I will send you some information free. If
you have already called I have not been down this
weekend to listen to the phone but will later on
today.

Maryellen, do not let doubt get a hold of you for
it will paralize you and your growth in Jesus, for
without faith you cannot please God.

Hello all FAF friends,

I found this site the beginning of April and have literally spent hours reading everthing on it. I know you are kindred spirits. I've kept telling my husband that I'm going to post here, but keep putting it off. Anyway, I'm going to just jump in and start!! Thank-you, Colleen and Richard, and whoever else is involved in starting and maintaining this forum.

I have enjoyed reading everyone' perspectives; a very wonderful mix of personalities emerge. I notice that sometimes things get taken wrong and feelings get hurt or people get mad... perhaps that's because we can't see each other's expresion, body language, and tone of voice. But I still think the advantages of this type of forum outweigh these problems, especially when we remember our equal standing under Christs' cross. I appreciate the male/female equality and support shown here, also.

I'm sure there are others like me who have been reading, thinking, and being blessed immensely from the shadows...not brave enough to post to such public a forum. I know it has been true of me.

Thank-you again. Blessings to all!!

Because of His Mercy and Grace always......
(plus nothing!)

Thanks, Cindy,

For reading us, and especially for trusting us enough to post. Delighted to have you.

Colleen and Richard started the site almost a year ago. I came abord as Jude the Obscure last November. We estimate that "a few thousand" people per week stop by. And we're hoping their numbers will grow. This site is in the hands of a God who is sovereign and has plans for it.

And I, for one, firmly believe that he is using us as a saving instrument to many in the SDA church who need outside help. Also to many who haven't "bothered" with the church in many years. We also have a "support group" function to people who are hurting from dysfunctional situations. Venting is even okay, as long as it stays within proper boundaries.

Some of us -- especially me -- do make mistakes and "blow it" from time to time. I think you're right: If we could see the person, read the facial expressions, body language and tone of voice, we would make fewer "people blunders."

At any rate, it's great to meet you here, Cindy.

God bless,

Max

Hi Cindy,

You made a great observation. One that Max commented on too:

"If we could see the person, read the facial expressions, body language and tone of voice, we would make fewer "people blunders."

Thank you for that observation. I'm so glad that it didn't turn you away. Actually, I think there are benifits to some of these more unpleasent exchanges. It keeps some people engaged in the "conflict". Human nature is that way! People want to see what the out come is. As long as it is NOT a daily thing, but an occasional thing, it's healthy! I do know that even though there are those occasional un-pleasentries, the participants still love each other. What do you think?

You said:

"I know you are kindred spirits." Thank you for that too. We really are a family:-)))

Are you related to Richard Jr?

Welcome and glad you're here now.

Thanks Max=Jude, I never got around to posting while you were Jude so didn't get to address you as Hey Jude!! Anyway, I've thought you have had some pretty amazing stories/parables such as IT'S CHRISTMAS AND ALL YOU CAN DO IS CRY and WHERE THE ARMOR IS THAT ONCE RULED THE KINGDOM... they both made me cry.

Maryann, thank-you. you are a very encouraging person!! I have loved your posts on memories and also the ones on the words to old hymns; the one on Fanny Crosby was excellent! In regards to the benefits of some of the unpleasant exchanges here...yes,I agree they can be the catalyst for more discussion. In fact, this is really the reason I finally joined in...because of some back and forth thoughts between Patti and Max. Patti has had some great contributions here and I need to go to those posts and tell her! I like her emphasis on Christs' Rightousness alone! I really think it's not about US, it's about GOD!! There, with Christ alone, is my motivation, my strength, and joy!!

And yes, Richard,Jr. has been my very interesting husband for over 26 years (now you can see how old am!) I corrupted him (just joking!) by first showing him this site in April.

In debt to His Grace always,
Cindy

Hi Cindy and Richard Jr,

It's truly great to have both of you aboard. I'm sure you will be a welcome contributer in the future as Richard has already made his mark.

Thank you for the afformation on the post's. Posting has been a real blessing to me with some of the events in my life lately.

I did a "Hey Jude" last night and didn't get in the least bit of trouble, soooo, why should you? Go for it! ;-) A part of him will always be Jude to so many of us! And I for one, will sprinkle my "Hey Jude's" whenever I think it's a good idea. Unless, of course Max tells me other wise. And then, I might still sneak one in now and then! ;-)

Another thing, if a person gets mad at Max, they can then go on posting to Jude? Hahaha!

I agree, Patti has been an awesome asset to this Forum. She has been able to draw insights out of things that would not have been seen as easily seen by others.

Everyone has their own little nitch, even if there is an itch once in a while.

I've had an awful time writing this as I've run between the TV and this during commercials. I just love that show, Survivors.

hello from me too! I'm doing this backwards, signing the guest book, I mean! I've been following what everyone has to say for some time now too, and just jumped in last week, but I didn't really introduce myself. I guess since I've been reading, I already felt like a part of the group in a way. Colleen and Richard told me about this site when they started it, and I've continually refered lots of Adventist friends to it since then. When Richard asked me last week if I ever go to the site, I realized that just because I know I'm there, no one else does unless I write something! Ha! Anyway, I enjoy reading what everyone has to say and find the difference in opinions to be very thought provoking. I appreciate everyones comments, but mostly appreciate knowing that Grace abounds, and the love for Jesus is vital on this site.
I'm curious how many have read Grace Plus Nothing? good book, huh?

Welcome Cindy and Richard, Jr. My husband, David, and I have also been married just over 26 years.

For you other lurkers out there: We won't bite, honest! This is a safe place to get an answer to your questions and to talk out your struggles. If you are still nervous about your questioning, you don't have to use your real name. We aren't going to tell on you!

Bethany,
I've been blessed by your posts! The book GRACE PLUS NOTHING sounds good; great title! Who's the author?

Lydell and David,
I've always enjoyed reading your contributions here! After being around here for a few months, sometimes I really long to spend a few hours just talking face to face with you ALL, maybe over a long, leisurely dinner at a good restaurant and sipping after dinner coffee....

Hi Cindy,

You said:

"After being around here for a few months, sometimes I really long to spend a few hours just talking face to face with you ALL, maybe over a long, leisurely dinner at a good restaurant and sipping after dinner coffee...."

I have to be honest about something. The greatest thrill I have EVER experienced in my ENTIRE life and ever hope to experience before the second coming is:

The times I have been able to spend with some of the FAF people in Church, at the park at a Church picnic, over dinner, home potluck, FAF meetings, musical recitals of the Tinker boys (those are particularly awesome!!!!) and even hospital visits are really precious. I wouldn't trade even one minute of those times for all the postum in
Loma Linda!;-)))) Nothing, and I mean nothing compares!

That got me to recka-lecting. Remembering how miserable and sweaty I was in the hospital, Colleen came in and not even hesitating, gave me a hug and a kiss on the forehead! THAT my friends, was the ultimate experience of the sister I never had! In fact it has brought tears to my eyes right now.

For God to have picked me, one little speck of sand on the beach, to have this opportunity and pleasure is just one more thing to hammer home the fact that He, God is a wonderful, loving, caring and personal God to me!

Opps, there are those long sentences again!;-((

Hi Cindy,
The author of Grace Plus Nothing is Jeff Harkin. It really is a great book and has some wonderful things to say like: "One of the significant indications that a person is healing and\or maturing in Christ is a lack of defensiveness." Or, "Since Satan hates the image of God, he is committed to the destruction of personhood." And, one that really helped me: "The Grace of God is radical, more radical than any love you have ever imagined."

Maryann, you have been very fortunate to meet with others on this site, that does sound like real blessing. Maybe someday FAF will have a "within sight" reunion; that would be fun.

Blessings,
Bethany
