winding through endless webpages trying to find either _Questions of Doctrine_ or _The Truth about Seventh-Day Adventism_ finds me on more tortuous and shaky ground on Adventism than ever. I'm so confused as to what they believe

me, again,

Hang in there Chyna. The more you see, the more it will look cultish to you. That's been my experience, and I'm only in the process of leaving (have been since late last year, it takes a while!)

Confusion abounds, don't let the confusion reign with you. We know who the author of confusion is, don't we?

Steve, Good point!

"Confusion abounds, don't let the confusion reign with you. We know who the author of confusion is, don't we?"

Chyna, As you are finding out, there are many faces to Adventism, a more liberal, open side...and a more rigid, closed system.

But it seems to still come down to a belief in a 'True Remnant' theology that denies that the Gospel of Jesus is Enough for your salvation! It is belief in Jesus yes!, BUT.... and this BUT is important... This comes down to Jesus-- plus something. And this is most notably presented as Jesus plus belief in EGW as an 'inspired' commentary on Scripture; and that the Seventh-day Sabbath observance will be the 'Final Test' of loyalty to Christ.

Blessings to you! May the Holy Spirit be our only Guide as we REST in Christ's Righteousness Alone!

Grace always,
Cindy

you're right, that Satan is the author of confusion. I'm reading about the 2300 days (heehee, i thought it was 3200, oh well), and it is quite complex.

reading, always reading,

Hey guys,

Isn't it possible that all these people who don't quite have the truth of the gospel have at least called on the name of Jesus and been saved? Even if they don't quite realize it yet. Remember, some are ready for milk only, and some ready for meat. The meat he was referring to is the gospel. Ellen said it too. This is the true meat. Not all will comprehend all of it right away, and some will flat out reject it.

my .00002 cents worth,
Wendy

Yes, Wendy, I believe you're right.

The problem, though, is that Adventism's deception can only come from one place, and that deception keeps Adventists from fully experiencing their freedom in Christ. The source of the deception lays a spiritual claim on Adventists.

Certain amazing truths about Jesus and the clarity of the Bible never quite come into focus as long as one is even nominally connected to the church. I'm speaking from my rather protracted experience in finding Grace and then finding my way out of the Adventist church.

I do believe many Adventists are saved. It's just that so MUCH more awaits themóGod wants to do so much more in and through them! And he wants to tangibly give them the fruits of the spiritólove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal. 5: 22)

Trusting His timing,
Colleen

Well, this seemed an appropriate place to post this one. We received a letter today from "Mission Evangelism". They are agonizing over what "is the solution to our denominational problem." Here's their solution. I'm copying the punctuation exactly.
"What we need is a change of heart, and that can only come as we bow in humility before God's Written Word, the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy, and accept both as the highest authority governing our lives and our Church."

Throughout the newsletter they are placing the Bible and the "Spirit of Prophecy" books on equal footing.

Did I hear someone say, "that a cult alright?"

Just curious: If bowing before the Bible and
EGW is, according to Mission Evangelism, the
solution, then what, according to ME, is the
problem? Did they say?

Why Max, I am surprised you had to ask! Ahh, well.......
"The denomination is facing a crisis" you see. According to them, "there are arguments, conflicts, and lowered standards" (hey Chyna, "lowered standards" is always a buzz word used by the most ultra religious SDA's and simply means "we really need to dress and live as those did in the 1800's to be truly spiritual") and "broken promises, squabbling, unjust actions, and even lawsuits". Hm, funny, they don't mention what those lawsuits are about. "There is an invasion of worldliness on a scale never before seen among us."

They go on to declare that the solution to every single problem in the church is "we must return to the Spirit of Prophecy." Durn, Max, I bet you thought it was to turn to the Lord, get saved, and actually read the scriptures, didn't you?

This whole thing is a pretty sorry read. They state that "our kind heavenly Father knew that His earthly children down at the end of time would need inspired counsel, in addition to the Bible." Hm, fascinating. For nearly 2,000 years of history, the Christian church has done just fine having the scriptures only.

Ahh, but you see, God knew that "His children would need additional information to resist all the complex and varied deceptions they would encounter." Because, "only those who are humbly clinging to Christ and in His strength obeying God's Inspired Books (that's their caps, folks)will be able to do this."

Oh, but "satan whispers that the Spirit of Prophecy is not important. He tells us we don't need to read it. He sends his agents to cleverly hint that the books have been changed, that they were written by someone else, or that they are old-fashioned and do not apply to our modern world." Wow, and here I THOUGHT what the BIBLE said was "all SCRIPTURE is inspired by God and profitable for reproof, correction, teaching, and training in righteousness."

Now here is a quote that it is only too sad that they don't understand!! "Quite consistently, from beginning to end, the devil has tried to take the Word of God from God's people." Remember now, by "Word of God" they are referring to the Bible AND the Spirit of Prophecy. Hello!

Chyna, can you see here just how distorted and twisted truth becomes in the SDA church?

Okay, everyone together now:
Thank you Lord for FREEDOM!!
Max

Thanks, Lydell. ME is just like the rest of
"hysterical Adventism," I see.
