My friends, we've got trouble,
Right here in Loma Linda, Berrien Springs,
Silver Spring, Walla Walla, Collegedale,
St. Helena, La Sierra, you name it.
Trouble with a capital T,
And that stands for Tax,
and that means TITHE.

That's right. You don't have to pay it. Not under
the new covenant, that is. Tithing was a civil
law under the old covenant theocracy done
away by the cross.

Nowhere in the New Testament will you find a
command to pay tithe.

The idea is this: Under the old covenant the
tithe was paid to the priest. Under the new
covenant (New Testament) you, my friend, you
are the priest! This is known as the teaching
of "the priesthood of all believers."

That means our God Jesus Christ has
entrusted his money -- the money you earned
working for Jesus at PG&E or Kroger or
Microsoft -- is entrusted by him to you to use
as he directs. And that means you'll give some
of it to help the poor, some to help further the
gospel, and so forth.

But the key difference is that you are God's
priest. You are no longer under a civil
theocratic government, as was Israel under
the old covenant.

At that time the tithe was a tax. Pure and
simple. But when God Jesus Christ came to
earth he ended that old covenant government
with all its taxes, meaning its tithing system.

Your church has no right to collect it from you.
Instead, the Holy Spirit has the right to
impress you to use it as God sees fit.

Blessings on you as you gain your freedom
from the prison of Seventh-day Adventism.

Hi Max,

Thank you for that post. I have been criticized for taking it upon myself to use a "tithe" in what I think is proper place. A Christian Radio station, books, tapes and so on. In fact, I used a "tithe" money to get material like Swindoll tapes to educate myself! I can't tell you what a blessing they have been to me!!!

Tithe can also be "time" given. Take a mother of three who has only enough money from her husbands pay check to support the family. She can be a help in the community or Church as a volunteer.

To think that there are people that loose their jobs because they don't tithe really fries me. To think that it is actually with-held from a pay check against one's will is criminal!!!

Agreed, Maryann.

Hey, all you Adventist defenders out there,
care to answer this question: Is your tithe
really only a theocratic civil tax?
