Yes, I would want to know.

My reason. I want Truth. I don't need more than that reason.

God Bless,
Denise

Hi everyone,I am new to this site, and I think it is wonderful!!Just what I have been looking for!I want to know the truth, the REAL truth. My husband,on the other hand is in complete denial! We were historical adventist for alittle over a year, but it really 'rocked my world' when I first seen the error in EGW!But what do I do,other than pray, about my husband??I know, don't argue with him either, but you gotta know Jerry,he is CONSTANTLY saying,"you mean you REALLY think that way,or do you REALLY think you can do that and go toheaven?"I can't put up a 'good' argument with him because I'm not sure what I believe anymore. But praise the Lord,he is showing me.Any advice?? God Bless! Angie

Welcome Angie, you have come to a wonderful place of healing.

My answer to your question is obvious, but adamant. Don't argue! Don't argue! don't argue! Remember, a soft answer turneth away wrath. If you were only in Adventism for a little over a year, he has not had the chance to get as indoctrinated as some of us were. If he say, "do you really mean that you believe you can do ______ and go to heave," simply say, "yes, isn't God's grace wonderful" and leave it at that.

Remember, it is the Spirit that does the convicting, not you. Your jub is simply to be available. Surrender your husband's errors to God. In the same way that he revealed (and is revealing) his truth to you, he'll do it for your husband. Think about it, God wants him to come to a knowledge of the truth even more than you.

In His Grace

Angie, please don't argue. Do remember however that you have a right to follow your own conscience, and you may need to gently remind your husband that fairness dictates he give you the same religious liberty that he wants from the Pope for historic adventism. Doug is right, only the Holy Spirit can change a heart. I am constantly fighting the urge to try and convert my family. At this point, I need to focus on simply getting along with them and let God speak to their hearts. I would encourage you to do the same.

Max, I would want to know because I have discovered that error isn't good for me. It causes me harm in some way, and I usually don't find out until I'm way down the line in it. I can't be all I can be in Christ if I don't know the truth. Whatever is in error is going to hold me back. I want to know right up front if I'm on track or not, definitely.

Welcome Angie, and I praise God for you that the two of you were only in the denomination for such a short time.

You know, the thing about those soft answers is that they are so darned annoying! I'm guessing your husband just may have a tad of uneasiness inside him that maybe he isn't quite so extremely sure of his own beliefs. What he is doing, in other circumstances would be called bullying, and bullies are covering up their own inadequacies.

Hm, I'm thinking an answer to "you don't really believe..." is a calm, "sure do, I'm resting in the work Jesus completed at the cross". The more calm you are, the more provoked he will be. Actually, I think you should pray that he will be really so provoked and disquieted by your calm responses that he is driven to dig into the Word for himself. Cause, after all, you no longer care a flip what EGW or the church says. His statements are going to have to come from the Word, because you are going to want to see the context, if he ever pushes it that far. And that "seeing things in context" means you'll want to read the whole chapter or whole book. And hearing the same response from you over and over....How irritating.
