I live in the Portland, Or. area and felt the quake here. In fact, I was sitting in front of the computer catching up on my FAF reading.

Thank you for thinking Mary Ann. Weare all fine here. I was sitting in my car doing followup telephone calls to my moms and babies in the area I was in. And the first thing I noticed was the tremendous rattling noise of the windows in Safeway and how the were moving. Then it felt as if a couple of boys were jumping on the back of my trailer hitch. Felt like that or like a boat in some fun waves. By the time I thought to get out of the car to feel what it would feel like to stand on ground it was almost over.

Cell phones were useless as the lines were jammed. Traffic lights were out and it was a slow crawl to my next visit as well as home.

Everything is fine here in the house. My concern was to get home before Joseph and make sure the house was safe. He is home now and talking a mile a minute for the last 30. I can't listen anymore so I am online but he still just happily chatters away.

I had heard that you could feel it in Salt Lake even, could you feel in in Southern CA? My husband is in LA today and he did not mention that he did.

Well that is my story. Someone mundane. But it was for the moment an exciting experience with the forces of nature.

Hi Val,

Glad you are all fine and appear to not have damage! We feel little ones in NV and CA often with a few big ones in CA that I have never have been around.

Remember the story about Sandy in the Memories of Loved Ones? Well, we got her moved from So. CA to NV just about 10 or 12 hours before that big one hit CA on MLK day back about 1991.

That was so amazing to me about it being 30 miles below the surface! Imagine if it had been closer!

Sherry, I don't think So. CA felt it. A few weeks ago though, there were two small ones that we could feel.

BTW, glad to see you got back on finally;-))

Glad everyone is ok! You see why I don't want to visit CA, Maryanne? :) I'm afraid if I do, well that will be the day it slips off into the ocean! Ha! One of Jon's friends from work just moved to Portland on Friday from Michigan...so maybe he brought it with him. Just kidding. :)

My kids were so excited about it all night and even this morning.

My twelve year old was still talking about it while trying to fall asleep!

When I came home from church last night he had not done his homework and was scattered in papers of reportings and information from various web sites on this earthquake, proclaiming loudly, "THIS ISN'T THE BIG ONE FOR SEATTLE A MUCH BIGGER ONE THEY SAY IS COMING!" Well my budding seismologist had as much fervor in his voice as an ADVENTIST for the second coming!!!

This would have been ok except that Anthony's imagination went wild and melt down happened. Crying voraciously that he didn't want to die if the roof fell in on him tonight. And this was so unfair that a 5.5 year old would have to die RIGHT BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY!!! Let me tell you drama lessons this kid does not need and it was quite a scene. I felt my family had become a TV sitcom. I couldn't laugh because I had to comfort the little guy but it was really funny.

Another funny story was that my neighbor was in the supermarket with her three very young children when this happened, well alot fell off the shelf and the place was a mess. Her little boy not yet too, sheepishly said, "Sorry Mommy."Out of the mouths of these little ones comes such great joy.

Boy o Boy. Look at the time. I have to get out of these jammies and hit the road. Take care all and have a wonderful and calm day.

Hi Val,

Your jammies were cute!

Sherry,

I have a few innertubes, surfboards, life jackets and a cannoe, so if you visit and CA slides into the ocean, you could also "do" the ocean thing while you were here;-)))))))

Looks like a good thread for this! Sabra, Janet, Janice, Lydell ? ? ? Did ya feel it? I was awake and it was pretty shaky - I actually felt the room shifting, was more than just vibrations. We don't get this often in these parts, so it's pretty big talk this morning! Hope everyone is safe and no damage done!!! Love and prayers to all, Carol #2

Carol,

I didn't know anything about it. There is a weird thing going on on another forum, this guy claims to have had a dream that we were going to have a massive earthquake on May 7 this year in the Mississippi fault line. He says he has had dreams of other things that have come true.

I don't put a lot of credibility in date setters, but something about this guy seems really sincere. And it seems, that if the peace deal goes through, it is supposed to pass on May 7, hmmmm, guess we'll see.

What time was it?

Right about 5:00 eastern - I'm surprised you didn't feel it as it was closer to Chattanooga than Atlanta. Anyone else feel it?

Sorry Carol, I was in Baja Mexico and all was well down there! :)

How big of a quake was it and where was it centered? They are rare back east, but the New Madrid fault line can cause a major problem. Back in the early 1800's there was an 8+ quake that formed Reelfoot lake and rang church bells in Boston. So, don't think you are immune just because you are back east!

The center was in the extreme northeast part of Alabama, right around the Alabama - Georgia - Tennessee border. It was a 4.9 - not bad for us here! I felt one in the late 60s or early 70s in the St. Louis area, was in church at the time. This is the only other time I've felt one. I tell you, it's big talk in Atlanta right now! Love you all!! You know, Carol, I remember waking up at some point during the night and asking God, "What was that?" and then asking Him to keep us safe, I thought it was a dream until now I'm putting it together. I'm not very coherant at 5:00 in the morning. If it didn't make any noise here in Chattanooga, then I guess I was dreaming.

Hey everybody, I did write about it in the post above the one started about earthquake, but didn't start a new thread, I just put it in the middle of the letter that started for Pheeki. Anyway, it was weird, huh?

Colleen, I am glad you added that verse for Angie, I got off on talking about the earthquake and forgot to add it, and no, Angie has never mentioned divorce to me, it was just a discussion kind of like the one I answered last night, I did a word search in blueletter but couldn't find that verse about sanctification. You know, a lot of couples who start out in a marriage with neither one saved believe that this verse allows them to divorce, but I believe it is the devil that uses that verse a lot of times to plant a seed in the mind of the new believer (maybe they are already discontent about a lot of things and secretly wanting out of a really bad situation), but for those who actually leave, I think a lot of times, they wanted out anyway and just took this as a convenient route of exit, by all means we are to give our marriage 100% but what I was referring to was the chapter that Paul wrote on submissive wifes, many men use that to rule over their wives with and if they refuse to do the job described to them in that same chapter, then they shouldn't except us wives to be like robots and do them service and make us feel guilty by throwing that scripture at us, it has to be a joint effort, don't you think? Well, does it matter what we think anyway, if we KNOW what the word says, right?
