Isaiah 8:20: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

Mark it carefully, this text did not say there is some light in them, it said "there is no light in them!" Now, on the basis of Isaiah 8:20, can we see if EGW agrees with the supreme definer of truth: the Bible?

If she does, then there is truly "light" in her. If she does not agree with the Bible, then she is a false prophet.

What do you think?

Oh, so you are saying there is no such thing as a lesser light leading to the greater light? My my I can't imagine that!

She's a fraud nothing more nothing less.

I found a little book when I was cleaning my garage out today called "Faith and Works". On page 47 she gets a little confused.

"God's promises are all made upon conditions. If we do His will, if we walk in truth, then we may ask what we will, and it shall be done unto us. While we earnestly endeavor to be obedient, God will hear our petitions; but He will not bless us in disobedience. If we choose to disobey His commandments, we may cry, "Faith, faith, only have faith," and the response will come back from the sure Word of God, "Faith without works is dead" (James 2:20). Such faith will only be as sounding brass and as a tinkling cymbal. In order to have the benefits of God's grace we must do our part; we must faithfully work and bring forth fruits meet for repentance. "

Correct me if I am wrong but was not the sounding brass and tinkling cymbal quoted from I Chorinthians 13 in relation to if you have not LOVE? It was not talking about working your way into God's Promises.

You're right, Violet. The sounding brass and tinkling cymbal is from 1 Cor. 13 and talks about not having love.

Another problem I have with the quote you posted is her saying "God's promises are all made upon conditions." That is not true. God made an absolutely unconditional promise to Abraham. He promised him seed, land, and a blessing, and he did not require Abraham to do anything to realize that promise. In fact, when God made the covenant, he made sure that Abraham's faulty human promises didn't even enter into the agreement. He cause Abraham to fall into a deep sleep, and in a vision or dream Abraham watched a smoking pot and a burning furnace pass between the sacrificial animal pieces and make the covenant. God's promise to Aberaham was unconditional.

God's promise to David that a king from his line would always sit on the throne was unconditional. David didn't have to do anything in order to ensure that Jesus would descend from him and be the eternal king.

God's promise to Noah that a flood would never again destroy the earth was unconditional. It was based on the word of God, not upon Noah's actions.

God's promise to Jeremiah that he would give his people a new covenant and write the law upon their hearts was unconditional. Israel did not earn that covenant. But it happened in the person of Jesus. The New Covenant was not made between God and humanity. It was made between God and Jesus. Jesus fulfilled all the legal and moral requirements for the New Covenant to become reality. It is totally non-dependent upon human behavior. We become part of the New Covenant by faith, not behavior or goodness.

The only covenant God made in the Bible that was conditional was the Mosaic covenant. Only that one was made between God and man. Only that one was dependent upon human obedience and behavior, and only the Mosaic covenant never yielded the peace and prosperity it promised if Israel had been able to meet the standards of the law.

God's promises depend only upon his word. They are unconditional. Read Hebrews if there's any doubt!

Praising God for his promises which cannot be broken,

I remember being challenged by an Adventist on these "conditional" promises and making a list just from Genesis alone. I just did a cut&paste from it. The numbers represent chapters.

Conditional:
4. To Cain (applicable to all) - If you do well, you will be accepted - v.7; .
18. To Abram - God would spare the cities for 10 righteous - v.32.

Unconditional:
6. To Noah - God will establish His covenant with him - v.18
8. To the world - God will not again curse the ground - v.21.
9. The waters shall not again flood the earth - v.11, 15; Ps. 104:6, 9. Is. 54:9.
13. To Abram - God would give him the land & multiply his seed - v.15-16
15. He would have an heir of his own flesh. His seed shall be as the stars. He
would inherit the land and die in peace in a good old age. v.4-7.
16. To Hagar - Her seed would be multiplied. She would have a son - v.10-11.
17. To Abraham - to make him fruitful, Nations & kings shall come of him. God
will give him the land - v.6.
18. Sarah shall have a son - v.18.
19. To Lot - not to destroy Zoar - v.20-22;
21. To Abraham - In Isaac shall your seed be called - v.12. Of the son of the
bondwoman will I make a nation - v.13, 18. .
22. I will multiply your seed...and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies -
v.17.
26. To Isaac - I will multiply your seed for Abrahamís sake - v. 24
28. To Jacob - I will give you and your seed the land whereon you lie, your seed
shall be as the dust of the earth, I will keep you in all places where you go, and will
bring you again into this land - v.13-15. .
31. I will be with you - v.3.
35. A nation and a company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of
your loins. And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to you I will give it, and to
your seed after you - v.11-12.
46. I will there make of you a great nation: I will go down with you into Egypt; and
bring you up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon your eyes - v.3-4.

I was recently thinking about the logic of the "lesser light leading to the greater light."
Could anything be stupider? I only need a candle when I'm in complete darkness. When the lights are on or the sun comes out, why would I need a candle?
My husband & I do a lot of cave exploring. We use "lesser lights" in the form of flashlights and lanterns. The interesting thing is, we need them to take us deeper into the cave, i.e. farther from the light even more than we need them to come out.

Whoa, Lynn, that was a powerful observation! Excellent illustration of the problem with that lesser light!
