My aunt, a SDA member, recently e-mailed me an article written by Samual Bacchiocchi on music and the SDA. "End time issues 68: Biblical teachings on music"

As I read through it I could not believe what I was reading. It seemed that music that deviated from the traditional was a threat to the SDA reputation and he was even upset when he went to preach and others preferred to go to the "beat service" instead of listen to him, who he points out he was presenting a timely message at considerable expense."

He referred to the "divine" service (11 o'clock hour)have I missed something about this time being extra special in the Bible?

Have any of you read this article and do you have any comments on it?

I can e-mail it to anyone who is interested It's quite an eye opener about how judgemental he is.

My addy is Robtami@prodigy.net

Oh, SADism it is...it really is, isn't it? Praise be to God for His love and mercy on us, and for the Freedom in Christ Jesus to live in an intimate relationship with Him!

Violet, I did read it and here is a direct quote from the newsletter you are referring to:

"In spite of my pleas for a united church service in occasion of my Advent Seminar, the "Praise Worship" group chose to go ahead with their own service. For the sake of accuracy I need to say that several of its members came over to the main sanctuary which was packed to capacity with visitors from several surrounding churches. It was hard for me to believe that some "Praise Worship" members, would rather play their beat music than listen to timely presentations from a visiting scholar, which their church had invited at considerable expense."

He also put out a second newsletter called 'Answering Some Questions on Music' in response to emails he received about the first newsletter. If you did not receive it and would like to have a copy, email me at lisa_bailey@hurricanepctech.com and I'd be happy to send it to you.

Wanted to add my welcome to all the new folks that have shown up over the past 3 weeks. I've been away on vacation. Also got to go see my son get his electrical engineering degree (3.7 GPA...mom's gotta brag!)

Being a member of a church that sees the worship music part of the service as equally important as the preaching, I can surely understand why the folks wouldn't want to show up for Bacchiocchi's meeting. Ew, "advent seminar". I can just imagine what he has to say about music. Found an interesting piece elsewhere on the Internet. It was something like "10 reasons why I am opposed to the new worship music". Have got to find the address and post it here. It was pretty funny.
