Can someone help me out here? You know the bit we have always heard about the "scientific study" that was done comparing the health of SDA's with the general population and the SDA's coming out SO well because of their "vegetarian diet"? And the wording always seemed to me to imply that this was widly the case amongst all SDA's. Who actually did that study?

I seem to remember seeing the straight story on this somewhere that said that it is actually that the study was done by Loma Linda or such using a very carefully selected group of vegetarian SDA's. I'm asking because I heard it spouted again today by one of my fellow church members who had read it in a book.

I figure there has to be something grossly wrong with the statistics. Of the SDA's we knew there was maybe, if you stretched it, 10-15% who were vegetarian. A portion of the remainder of the church gave lip service to being vegetarian, usually were pretty vocal about it, but you'd come across them at Burger King chowing down on a whopper or see them in a restaurant with a pile of chicken bones on their plate.

Those people didn't do the study at my husband's church. Most of those people seemed like they were on the Twinkie diet. In the bulletin one Saturday they actually advertised a Weigh-Down workshop, and I remember looking around the sanctuary thinking to myself, "yes, this person should go, and definitly that person, and over there, I wonder if that person read about this."
In my eating, I have found it's not what you don't eat that makes you healthy, it's what you do eat. My husband was on a strict vegan diet until I met him (I changed that) and he was a skeleton. With all the dietary studies out today on how to eat right, the SDA way of thinking to me is outdated.
