Well Andrew, if you are about to be a former, I can suggest several. The Seventh Day Baptist church in Riverside (just check the phone book) is a beautiful, well attended church that might interest you. I have friends there that can introduce you around if you would like. (My e-mail is the5scotts@earthlink.net) Quite a few of the formers in your area meet and worship at the Evangelical Free in Redlands. The church is on Resevoir Road which runs alongside the 10 freeway going east towards Yucaipa.

Finally, if you want to be a little daring and are headed towards Yucaipa anyway, the Yucaipa Church of Christ is on the Blvd., and not too far up. Most SDA's are pretty comfortable in a Church of Christ---the singing is acapella, they most definitely aren't Pentecostal, and the Yucaipa church is a friendly, vibrant and growing congregation.

So, there are three choices for you. Colleen, who lives in the area will probably have some other options for you as well. There are more choices around you than you can believe. There is also 'The Rock', a Charasmatic---almost Pentecostal church on the Redlands/Loma Linda border. Its' a big, growing church with all sorts of programs and ministries---but I don't know where they stand doctrinally.

Andrew, good luck and take your time looking. There are lots of choices and you'll discover many new, solid, Christian brothers and sisters. It's a journey that mixes the joy of discovery with a little heartache at leaving your current church. I wish you the best and rest assured, we 'formers' are here for you!

Well, I'm just praising the Lord for your being fed-up Andrew! God has SO much more in store for you. There's bound to be some churches in your area that are a part of the Vineyard association of churches. Their services are contemporary worship and a casual style. No need to dress up. They are middle of the road between traditional and charismatic. You'll hear solidly Biblical teaching there.

Pray for the Lord's direction in this and stay open for His answer. He has surprising ways of coming through with answers when we are truly open to hear HIS thoughts. Keep us posted on how it goes. I am sure we will all be praying for you. Many blessings.

Anderw, I'm glad you posted! Yes, I can suggest a wonderful church near Moreno Valley. It's the Trinity Evangelical Free Church on the I-10 in Redlands. Exit on Ford Street as you're going east through Redlands, turn left at the end of the ramp, and go right on Reservoir Road. The church will be on the left. If you come over the mountains from Moreno Valley, you can take Live Oak Canyon and get on I-10 going West. Exit on Wabash, go straight, and you'll see the church.

There are three services on Sunday, 8:00, 9:30, and 11:15. You can check out the church on their website at trinityonline.org.

The pastor at Trinity is the best Bible teacher I've ever heard. His PhD is from Dallas seminary, and he has an undergraduate degree in anthropology. He is very bright (something Adventists notice!) and he is completely committed to Jesus. There are MANY former and current Adventists who attend Trinity, largely because of the deep, clear, and truthful scripture teaching. Christ is always the center, and the presence of God is palpable. If you email us at formeradventist@aol.com we'll arrange to meet you, if you wish, so you don't have to sit alone!

You are also welcome to join us Friday evenings at Trinity for our Former Adventist Fellowship Bible study. Email us for information!

There is also a Calvary Chapel on Alabama Street in Redlands that some of our FAF members attend.

Pray for God to guide you where he wants you to be. We will pray for you as well, and I hope we'll hear from you soon!

Been gone for a while. Been to Alaska to visit my red haired, blue-eyed 2 year old granddaughter and then swamped trying to catch up once I got back. But I just had to post.

Anyone have any suggestions for churches in east central Illinois? It's over 100 miles to Indianapolis, Chicago, or St. Louis. I know it shows a serious lack of character, but I'm just not up to a drive that far.

You folks in Southern California have many choices. Anyone know of anything out here?

Madelle, "east central Illinois" is not that specific as far as cities go. If I were you, I would check out some of these denominations menntioned above in the phone book. Evangelical Free, Vineyard, Church of Christ (although never been to one of those. Don't they think instrumental music is wrong??) To that list I would add also Christian and Missionary Alliance, a mostly north eastern denomination. Also, you can talk to people you meet in any church you go to about what you are looking for. Most people aren't out recruiting for their denomination, saying there's is the only one with the truth, etc. Likely they may be able to help. Honestly picking a new church is hard, even for those who have never been SDA. It's worse than standing in line at Old Country Buffet!! Many people spend a month or so visiting different churches before they find "the one" where they feel God wants them to be. I hope this helps.

I also recommend the Evangelical Free Church. Simply go to www.efca.org, and click on the State of your residence for the address of your local Evangelical Free Church. BTW, Hannah, my wife and I dine out at Old Country Buffet occasionally. More frequently, however, we dine out at Ruby Tuesday restaurants. Being Americans eat 75 acres of pizza daily, I feel compelled to do my part there also (smile).

There are many fine church congregations. Having been "free" for nearly 18 years, I have found a church in each community where I have been which held dear brothers and sisters in Jesus. I believe the Spirit will lead you into all good things. presently, I have joined with a Southern Baptist congregation. They are a group rich in freedom and joy in Jesus. Christ is alive and well in many churches.

desperately seeking a church in the los angeles area. just joined the formeradventist forum but left sdaism many years ago. however, i've been attending a sda church for the past two years because i have to help my handicapped mother. the church still does not care about its members, does not provide any type of personal assistance for those who are elderly and handicapped. i'm looking for a fellowship where the LOVE OF JESUS is exemplified.

This is the most appropriate thread I can find for this, so here goes:

We are still in the middle of a move to North Carolina -- and I am now in NC. I found the link for the Charlotte FAF -- but alas, the e-mail address doesn't seem to work. I have gotten my messages returned.

I would love to get in contact with this group, if anyone has any info, could you please e-mail me directly at denrainwater@earthlink.net

Just in case a filter screened that address, it is denrainwater - at - earthlink - dot - net.

If anyone can help me, I'll be very grateful.

My wife and I have found a small grace-based church in Auburn (between Sacramento and Tahoe on I-80). The welcome we received was incredible, but we've only been there twice. We haven't completely decided on going there permanently. We're still looking.

My wife and I are at Beale Air Force Base.

Havent made it out to Tahoe yet, Loneviking, but plan to soon.

Joel
