"What we have seen and heard of the pestilence [of 1849], is but the beginning of what we shall see and hear. SOON THE DEAD AND DYING WILL BE ALL AROUND US." (Present Truth, Sept. 1849). Ellen G. White

Most days I wonder how we ever believed any of that EGW nonsense! When the 1844 disappointment came and went someone should have gotten a clue! Some feel she was a christian with a big imagination, I feel she was the false prophet spoken of in 1 Tim 4:1-5 What other "prophet" has said it was a sin to eat meat or a bad idea to get married in these "troubled times"? So nice to know the TRUTH!! ;)

In my case the reason I believed it was simple. I was taught that it was true from birth. In the case of 1844 most did in fact abandon the advent movement. A tenacious few did not and could not accept that, perhaps, the movement they followed was not of God.

Ellen arose in the midst of the confusion of those who refused to admit they were wrong after the 1844 incident. It would seem then that they were a set of people who wanted a reason to believe they weren't wrong. Ellen, like those who founded the other formal religions in the wake of this event supplied the reason.

But to the question of "Present Truth"...

Why must truth constantly be changed ? Isn't Truth Truth ? While I can certainly agree that there was a marked shift at the cross as we moved from the Old Covenant to the New why must truth be constantly improved ? Didn't God get it right the first time ? Is the requirements for salvation different now then when the Apostles walked the earth ?

I think not. I think whenever someone arises and declares that there is "new truth" a big red flag should immediately go up.

Amen, Fdauns! I remember the deep surprise I felt a couple of years ago or less when a relative said that "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" and so be saved was "present truth" for that (Paul's) day. Further, this person has said, Jesus did not have the health message yet, so fish/meat were understandable parts of his diet.

There really IS absolute truth. We don't know or preceive all of it, but it changes our lives and makes us new.

Praise Him for truth!

Present truth for Paul, praise God, has become present truth for me! And it will be present truth for all eternity! Galatians makes it the clearest, but it is taught throughout the epistles. The message of the cross as the centerpoint of history and the only way by which salvation has come to this world. It is PRESENT REALITY. Anything that comes along presenting itself as present truth but which obscures the Godsel is not present truth, but another delusion of the evil one to distract us from the one and only means of life and peace to the soul. Unfortunately, the message of Adventism, for the most part, did not point people to the cross, but distracted them from it. Therefore Galatians 1:8-9, disqualifies it as present truth, but rather a distraction and therefore must be rejected.

May we walk in the ever present truth of the Gospel of Grace!

In Christ,

Greg

Greg,
How is everything going with you and Paula? Did you hear from the Church of God yet? Also, how is your Adventist friend you mentioned? Hope everything is going well for you.

Well, everyone...We are officially members of the First Baptist Church (yes, we're praying for the Muslims this month ha) I was sort of surprised when I admitted that I wasn't sure about the pre-trib rapture, THEY DON"T CARE! As long as you've accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour, understand Grace and have been water baptized, you can believe other doctrine as the Holy Spirit leads you. WOW!! How cool is that! We really liked the youth programs and missions programs, it's a very big church but our Sunday School (don't y'all love saying that?) is really small and very friendly. :) When I told the pastor I was raised SDA he said "Oh, uh huh" Very nice man, nice church, we're excited and the kids love it, oh and nursery for the baby!! OK, well I'll go for now....

God Bless You All!!!!!!!!

Oh Fdauns,

You're right, truth is truth beginning to end.
What I think most of the confusion with the SDA's thinking is that somehow the law was perfect, that it was or is what should be strived for, when in fact, the perfection was in the creation of the world before sin entered and the law was just to point out sin and point to the cross. So, in the end, we'll have exactly what we had in the beginning! God didn't change a thing in the process, it was our sin that caused things to have to change for us. It was man that changed! So the law was just to get us back to the beginning where there was no sin.

Hope that made sense.

Sabra, Thanks for asking. We are doing well. Are going for an interview in the Hagerstown MD area this weekend. They are looking for someone to come on staff for a while and then take the Senior Pastor position after the planter leaves to go plant another church. We are praying for direction. The Flint church did not work out. They loved us, but could not come to a unanimous decision on their search committee about us. We are thanking God because we have been asking Him to open and close doors for us. That one is closed. We do not know what this weekend will hold. There are some misgivings we have in our hearts, but that would be true anywhere. God will make His way plain and we do not need to worry.

Also there is a church here in town that is non-denominational. We love the church and they want us to join the staff there. It would be a co-pastor position with a lot of teaching and leadership responsibilities. They are highly evangelistic and that package seems to fit my gifts. Several of my former church members are attending there with us. The church leadership would be open to having a Former Adventist fellowship meeting there once a month. It would be a first in this part of the country. So we do not know what to think.

The Hagerstown area is also filled with a lot of formers. We feel we will have a ministry to help former SDAs find a home in a grace oriented church. We are not interested in making happy SDAs leave what is working for them. But we are interested in helping SDA drop outs find fellowship. So many of them will not go anywhere since they have been taught that to do so would give them the Mark of the Beast. So they just beileve they are lost and go no place. That is the group I would love to help find fellowship.

Both churches we are looking at are highly evangelistic, and are wide open on the non-essentials. What a blessing. So whether or not we end up at Hagerstown, here in Asheville, or if God has something else in moind, it is so good to know that we are in his hand. God has taken care of us financially in some of the most surprising ways. It has been such a faith building experience to watch God work. Our two boys have grown so much too. We are able to sit down as a family during our worship and prayer times and talk about how God has been faithful to His promises time and again.

May God bless you and all of the FAF family! We love you all and so appreciate your prayers!

In Christ,

Greg

Some of you might like to check out our web site. A friend of ours set it up for us to help us job search.

Greg,

I really liked your website. You have a beautiful family. I went to MPA in 85 and 86, graduated there, it is a beautiful area. I am trusting in the Lord to find the perfect place for you all and will keep you in prayer.

God Bless,
Sabra
