Greetings all,
I have not posted in a while, as I felt convicted that it was time to begin moving out of the shadows of Adventism. However, I came across a site today that I thought we all would find interesting. It is called "Belief-O-Matic." Basically, you answer 20 questions, and the computer tells you which religious group you most closely align with--and yes SDA is one of them. The site is found at:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html

Take the challenge and let us know you faired. You may be surprised by the results.

In His Grace

Doug, how are you doing? Have you found a church where you can fellowship? I've been wondering how you are doing. How are you feeling this far from your talk with the pastor? Our prayers for you continue.

I didn't like the site. The beliefs that mine "" matched up to....ha-ha...Mormon's 100%....however I know from their beliefs and the answers I replied to that that's not me. And it was very slanted, giving no room for if you don't believe any of those answers or want clarification by what they are saying. I think if you weren't grounded, and were seeking where you might fit in, this site would lead you down a wrong road. anyhow.

Good to hear from ya, Doug. Hope all is well.

Colleen,
Thanks for your prayer. I am doing very wel since my conversation with the Pastor. For the first time (even since gaining an intellectual knowledge of grace), I feel the freedom to experience the abundant life. I am only now beginning to realize what it means to be "redeemed from the empty way of life that had been handed down from my forefathers." Unfortunately part of that realization means I cannot spend as much time here anymore.

Snowdove, how did your "assessment" go? I was suprised by my results. It said I aligned 100% with conservative protestants and 93% with Seventh-Day Adventists. I guess some things die hard don't they?

In His Grace ANYWAY

Sherry,
I didn't take it too seriously. I had trouble answering some of the questions too. I saw it more as a "parlor game." I am sure that even if it were valid, I think that the vast majority of SDA's would disown me in a heartbeat.

Anyway, it is great to hear from all of you. I'll be dropping in from time to time--and you never know when I'll be lurking. You all have been a tremendous source of support to me in my time of transition and I am eternally indebted to you all.

God Bless

I was 100% Catholic and Orthodox, 90 some odd conservative protestant. But its the 10-15% Buddhist that worries me ;-)

I'd really like to see the logic behind the conclusions.

Fun diversion......

I had to take the test twice.

The first time they could not find a group that I fit in [so I have a faith of my own ;) ] so they gave me the questions again and after refining/changing my answers.
I was 100% Quaker: 97% Conservative Protestant: 72% SDA: 71% Catholic.
HA)

I thought it was fun I have taken a few of there Quizes. One even rated my forgiveness.

I notice right off the bat that the quizes were subjective to the authors ideas.

May the Spirit of the Lord Guide you always.

Uh-oh. I tried that Belief-o-Matic that Doug222 mentione, and came out as 100% Liberal Protestant, and only 64% SDA. I guess I really am in trouble!

This is my first post -- for the past few weeks, I have been lurking in the shadows. So far, I like what I see -- very few people disrespecting differences of opinion.

Welcome Douglas! :) Glad to meet you. For the most part, we do ok with our differences of opinion. Once in a while it gets hot...guess we're not perfect, but hey, I know Who is!

Blessings~Sherry

Hello All,

It's been probably a year since I last posted here. It's nice to see some old and new names, and to "hear" everyone's experiences.

I tried the Belief-o-Matic (I wonder if it's related to the "Forgive-o-matic" that appeared on one of the Veggie-Tales tapes...) and came up as 100% Conservative Protestant -- which sounds about right -- followed by a 3-way tie between Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Seventh-day Adventist. Interesting combo, no? :-) Yikes!

About eight months ago my wife and I wrote our resignation letters to our SDA church; we haven't heard confirmation from them, but as far as we're concerned, we've "done the deed." It was mostly a formality -- we'd stopped attending long before then.

We've been attending an independent Baptist church for several months, and enjoying it very much. As for the title of this thread, "Have Your Beliefs Changed," I'd say that in general it's more like they've just found free expression. As in, I don't need to be a "closet evangelical" anymore. Doctrinally, I guess there's a lot to reexamine (for example, I've pretty much joined the mainstream regarding the state of the dead, but I can't buy into the pre-tribulation rapture thing) but the main thing is being part of a church where Christ is uplifted as all-sufficient Savior, and where the surety of my salvation rests in Christ's perfect work and not in my character development, commandment keeping, etc.

It's truly amazing -- the difference in tone and focus, going into a church where the focus is on Jesus every Sunday. A few weeks ago we had occasion to visit an SDA college church, and were treated during the Sabbath School period to an hour-long harrangue about how if we'd follow Sister White's health principles, God's people would have no need of prescription anti-depressants. I don't think the speaker mentioned Jesus once during the hour -- though it's possible she snuck in a reference after my eyes had glazed over.

At any rate, we praise God for delivering us and opening our eyes. I pray His blessings will accompany each of you as well.

- Lorin
