Now that I am officially an FAF member, I expect to be very active in discussions. Feel free to tell me to shut up from time to time =) My concern is as folows. I used to walk about knowing what Daniel and Revelation said. I haven't the foggiest idea now. Where do I start in order to find out what is REALLY said in those books? I'm not enough of a Scripture student to be able to find out on my own. I'm going to need plenty of help. Looks like I've come to the right place.

Free At Last,
I am in the same boat as you. I too was quite confident in my knowledge of scripture, but am now not so sure. I think the answer to your question is the "Holy Spirit." He is the one who removed the veil from my eyes and showed me the simplicity of the Gosepl--the thing I tried to make so complicated. He will reveal everything else I need to know, in His time.

The one thing I will say is that the book of Revelation is actually the Revelation of Jesus Christ. If He, and His completed work is not the central theme, then we probably have a wrong interpretation.

The amazing thing for me is that now I feel a tremendous freedom by not having to have an answer to everything. I don't understand Revelation, and its okay. My salvation is not based on how much I know, but who I know.

That's just my $.02 worth. Others may have different opinions.

In His Grace

Thank you Doug. I excpect that if Christ has led me thus far, He will continue until the day of His revealing. I'm not worried that I don't "get" Revelation anymore because I'm confident now that I "get" Jesus. That's the important thing!

Freeatlast,

That is a pretty WIDE question. Can you start with a specific part of Daniel or Revelation? Don't worry about anyone telling you to shut up. I'm sure I post entirely too much but no one has told me to shut up...yet. :)
I think it's great to check the posts and find a bunch! Keep it up!

Welcome, Freeatlast! I actually relate very closely to what Doug posted above. I feel tremendous freedom in not understanding everything in Revelation and Daniel now. The interesting thing, though, is that little by little, as the Old and New Testaments and the old covenant and the new covenant become increasingly clear to me, Revelation is beginning to seem less daunting. As Doug said, it's the revelation of Jesus Christ. He is central to that book! It's not so much a book telling what will happen and in what order as it is a book assuring us that Jesus will have the last word, and we can be absolutely certain of our future with him.

The most important thing is to study the Bible regularly, asking God to direct you to the truth he wants you to know that day and asking him to reveal himself to you and to show you what he wants to do in you.

It's amazing, as Doug posted on another thread, that God actually communicates with us. That possibility is created into humanity. He really does reveal to us what we need to know in the order he wants us to know it!

Again, welcome, Freeatlast! We look forward to your posts!

Thanks for the comments, and the warm welcome! I'm talking in particular about the beasts of Revelation 12 and 13, you know the whole story behind those, the United States, Roman Empire, Papacy, etc. that has been deeply ingrained in my understanding. I'm with you guys tho, I'd rather not yet "get" Daniel/Revelation and "get" Christ and the true Gospel! I just need to start digging again, I guess there's a treasure chest there that I never saw before.

Carol,

Hey!! I don't know what I'm doing this summer. My mom really wants me to go to Florida, but the trip is SOOOO long! If I do leave this state I will definately let you know. I'd love to meet ya! Doesn't look like the good Dr. (boss) is ever going to take us anywhere though as far as seminars go. :(
Let me know too if you come up this way, even Chattanooga, my husband works there and I could take the kids down that way for a weekend and leave them with him!! ha

Doug,

AMEN to your significant statement: "My salvation is not based on how much I know, but Who I know." We can fully trust the Holy Spirit to direct our Biblical search for truth. God has called us out of Adventism, in His own time, for a very special purpose. Wow! Sadly, I used to make fun of people that believe what I now believe and treasure. The Lord has already brought us a long way from our recent past. Indeed, it is exciting to see the whole picture in Scripture, not just a highly-selective chain of proof texts. Thanks be to God!

In Christ,

Dennis J. Fischer

PS: Recently, I was a substitute teacher at our adult Sunday School Class known as the LIFE TRACK CLASS (First Evangelical Free Church; Lincoln, Nebraska) for the third time. Interestingly, it so happened that my sister, a devout SDA, visited the class at my invitation. The topic was THE NEW COVENANT. Later she told a relative that she learned alot about the Bible that she never knew before. She has been an Adventist for over 60 years. --DJF

As a student in SDA schools I learned enough to pass the tests, but don't ask me what Daniel and Revelation are about now, at least not the SDA point of view. And do not ask about the Investigative Judgement!! I never did understand that one.
I say amen to Doug's statement: "my salvation is not based on how much I know, but Who I know".
Thank you God for Jesus, whose blood covers my sins and through whom I am saved. Thank you for the Holy spirit who teaches me as I read your Book, the Bible.
Thank you so much.

Once at a Bible Study I was attending at the Lutheran church I go to the conversation got onto the final judgement. A very nice man at this church was raised what I call Super SDA. He mentioned the I.J. and that was how he was brought up to believe. Someone who had been a lifelong Lutheran asked what that was. He went on to tell the group it was the SDA's tecahing of Purgatory except that for Catholics Purgatory comes after death but for SDA's Purgatory is before death. I really think that is an interesting way that this man has figured out the I.J.
