I wanted to share with you all in the forum about a book I'm just about finished reading called "What's So Amazing About Grace?" by Philip Yancey. Personally, its one of the best books I've ever read, especially in light of all I've learned about Adventism. I never fully understood the issue of law vs. grace until I studied Adventism in depth. Reading this book has really helped me to realize how powerful the gospel of grace is to Christians and how no part of the law can ever be coupled with it and it still be grace. In my own study, Adventists seriously have a problem when it comes to the grace of God. Because they are so hung up on the law, they dont realize the fullness of grace. That could also explain why their idea of the gospel is so twisted. In any case, its an awesome book and I would recommend it to anyone! =) God bless!

Joel

PS, please pray for me as i try to share the truth about adventism to my mother in law. thanks

Since we're recommending books, I'd like to recommend a couple that are great for people coming out of legalism (Adventism):

In the Grip of Grace - Max Lucado
Grace Awakening - Charles Swindoll
Healing Spiritual Abuse - Ken Blue
12 Steps for Recovering Pharisees - John Fischer
Changes that Heal - Henry Cloud

All of these books are excellent and receive my highest recommendation. It is hard for me to pick one that I liked the best, but I guess it would probably be Fischer's book.

Another excellent book is the Bible <smile>. Especially, the books of Galatians, Hebrews, Romans, Ephesians, and John.

For those who may want something a little more "traditional," I would recommend, "95 Theses of Righteousness by Faith with Apologies to Martin Luther" by Morris Venden. It is full of Ellen White quotes, but believe it or not, it is probably the book that started me down the road towards freedom. If there are some "questioning" Adventists lurking on the forum, this would be a good starter book.

There is one more book that I forgot to mention. It is "Sabbath in Crisis" by Dale Ratzlaf. I know most of you on this forum have read his book, but for those who have not, it is a must read. It will revolutionize your understanding of the Sabbath. After reading his book, you will realize that SDA's are sitting on a gold mine when it comes to the Sabbath. They understand, perhaps more than anyone else, that the Sabbath has special significance. Unfortunate spiritual myopia blinds them from seeing Jesus as its ultimate fulfillment.

Thanks for all the great book recommendations! I would second Doug's "must read" category of The Sabbath in Crisis by Ratzlaff. BTW, it is soon to be re-released with some editing and additions under the new name, Sabbath in Christ.

I'd also like to recommend two awesome books:

Grace Plus Nothing by Jeff Harkin
Classic Christianity by Bob George

They both were powerful in my lifeóparticularly Classic Christianity.

We'll pray for you, Joel.
