Yesterday, I was talking a walk with my Sheltie, Chevy....My walk came to a complete halt as I began to watch him dart back and forth, to and fro following the trail of a butterfly. He was totally absorbed in what he was doing, enjoying every moment of this wonderful adventure.

Suddenly, the butterfly landed two feet in front of him; I feared for the butterflies demise as I expected him to bite it. But he stood there in confusion! He saw the butterfly gently fluttering his wings but he gave it no more notice than a brief glance.

He began quickly looking back and forth trying to find what he had been chasing; it had landed right in front of him!!!!

When the butterfly took flight once again and the pup immediately began its pursuit, delightfully following the butterfly, I discovered that he was not following the butterfly at all! He was merely chasing its shadow. The shadow he recognized but when the real thing came into view he didn't have a clue that it was the thing he had been pursuing!

The same incident played out each time the butterfly landed; the pup was totally confused, not understanding why the object he pursued had totally disappeared. All the while the substance of the shadow he was chasing had each time landed directly in his view.

I thought this was a beautiful illustration of how someone can delightfully follow the shadows of Christ, yet miss seeing Christ altogether!!!

Wow, Lori! What a great example! (And don't you love Shelties? We have one named Charlieóhe's overgrown and looks like a small collie, but he's wonderful!)

Thanks for story!

Colleen,
We also have an extremely "overgrown" one!!!! Size-wise he's not at all what I was expecting! (I had a female Sheltie years and years ago which measured about 14".) Chevy, however, is 22 1/2" tall! He does have the wonderful Sheltie personality, though!! And we enjoy him very much!!
