I was just listening to Adrian Rogers. He was preaching about Noah. He read from the Bible that the ark came to rest on the 17th day of the 7th month on Mt Arrarat. He said the first month of the Jewish calendar is October, and therefore the seventh month is April, and that the 17th day is three days after the passover (on the 14th), thus making the ark pefectly fortell the soon to come Messiah.

I have no problem with the ark representing the safety of our salvation, but something does not sit right with me about his dates. Is a Jewish month really equivalent to a month according to our calendar? Wasn't the 14th day the day that the lamb was selected, and not the date that it was sacrificed?

I don't have my Bible with me right now, so I cannot verify it, but it seems as though he may have taken some license with his interpretation--or maybe I am totally off base. What say you guys?

I can't say for sure on the ark bit, but I sometimes have wondered if Rogers doesn't read a bit too much into symbols at times. He recently did a series on Revelation and spent one episode on the symbolism of the numbers and colors in Revelation. While I would agree with Rogers that the Jewish people and especially Jewish apocalypic literature uses a lot of numerical symbols, I felt like he went into such dogmatic detail on what each number and each color met that he surpassed what we can actually KNOW and entered the realm of speculation. This may be okay if you present it as speculation and not as an absolute.

I thought Jewish months were all 30 days in length, which is why the calendar has to be adjusted ever so often.
