I'm wondering how some of you are doing. I'm thinking of Derrell and his sister-in-law and her children as they are suffering losing their brother, husband, and father. You continue to be in our prayers.

I'm also wondering about Richard and his daughter, wife, and especially his concerns about the universalist tendencies he was concerned about in his church. Let us know how you're doing; you're also in our prayers.

I've also been wondering about Sara and Joel (who is in the Aire Force). Is your back better, Sara? And how is your pregnancy going?

I praise God for everyone here. It is really a privilege to be able to share each other's burdens and to support each other with prayer. I am really grateful for the truth and honesty and caring that I find here. Thanks to all of you; I'm grateful that God has put you into my life! You are in my prayers.

Oops--I didn't mention the weekend--the title of the thread!

I was showing a fellow FAF-er a small booklet published by Pacific Press in 1979. It's entitled, "Jeanie Meets Ellen White", and it's written by Becky Ponder. It's written for kindgergarten-aged children. (Thanks to Susan 2 for the booklet!)

It's a story about an Australian girl name Jeanie whose mother takes her and her siblings to a campmeeting to hear a prophet from America named Mrs. White. Mrs. White was wearing a black dress with "a crisp white collar", and her hair looked like a combination of the white and black that made a soft gray.

"Mrs. White looked as if she would make somebody a goodd grandmother, Jeanie thought." (Ahem!)

The core of the story is that Jeanie, who sat in the front row with Mother (no mention was made of Father; Mother took Jeanie and the children to the tent meeting), found herself laughing at Mrs. White's American accent, and she couldn't control herself. She actually laughed loudly enough so a few people heard her.

Jeanie was mortified (as was Mother), and Mother picked some flowers and grapes for her and Jeanie to take to the house where Mrs. White was staying so Jeanie could apologize. Jeanie found Mrs. White more aproachable than she had imagined, but she found herself unable to apologize until Mrs. White asked Jeanie if she'd like to sit on her lap. Once ensconsed on her lap, Jeanie blurted out her apology and began crying. Then Jeanie felt "something cool and soft on her cheek. Mrs. White was kissing Jeanie."

Mrs. White said, "Jeanie I won't think anymnore about this, and you can forget it also." Jeanie was amazed, and Mrs. White said, "Jeanie, I know you are sorry for your actions. Jesus has forgiven me of sins much worse than this. I am happy to forgive you."

I have to confess I was horrified at the attitude the author attributed to Mrs. White (not that it's innacurate!) that Jeanie had sinned by laughing. As Richard said, this booklet is clearly teaching that no one should laugh at a prophet. After all, look what happened to those children who laughted at Elisha!

The other thing is, this booklet (no longer in print, of course) clearly proclaims that EGW is a prophet. That, as we know, is a claim many Adventist try to disavow.

And by the way, the amazing (to me) fact that the booklet never mentioned Father and did not have him attending the tent meeting and hearing EGW with Mother and the children reminded me that when I was little, I was often bothered by the fact that Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories often mentioned Mother and the children invovled in some drama at home, and Father was often never mentioned. I used to wonder where the Daddy was.

What's up with this glaring ommission of Father, anyway? (I could speculate. . .)

I am so thankful for the amazing reality that truth sets us free. Thank you, Jesus, for leading us to yourself!

Yes, an update on everyone would be great! Wonder if Joel has internet access. I've also wondered about Angie and how she is doing, and the Taylor's how they are doing in their new church.

That is a very weird book, what is the spiritual gain in that? Nul, nada, zip! What a waste of pulication! I had a weird little book when I was little about Ellen's childhood and her vision of the path to heaven and people falling off of it left and right and how she was hit in the head with a rock when she was young....Boy! That must have been some rock! Look at me, laughing at a profit ,--yes, I spelled it right HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

I got proclamation on Saturday and really enjoyed your article, Colleen. It cleared up some things I hadn't yet taken the time to work on!

God is so good and so faithful. I am continually getting affirmations to personal studies during the sermon or different Bible studies I participate in. It's an amazing thing to see how God has put so many affirmations in my path. I guess he knows repetition works with his kids too. :-)

Thanks for the clue that the next Proclamation is in the mail!! I soak up those articles like a sponge.

My husband finished up his meetings last night. Thank goodness! There was only one couple coming consistenly; I had written last week for a prayer request for the wife named Marguerite. They are going to be out of town for a couple of weeks. So far, I haven't been able to talk with her, but will try again.

BTW, has anyone read "Death and the Afterlife"? The author's last name is Morey. I saw it recommended on another website and bought it at my local Christian bookstore on Friday. Just started a few pages this morning.

Thanks, Meslissa. You're right about the affirmations; I've noticed that same phenomenon. When we first joined Trinity after leaving SDA-ism and were rediscovering the Bible as if for the first time, I remember how often I was startled to hear something in a sermon or on the radio, etc., that confirmed what I'd been studying.

I used to wonder at the edges of my mind how anyone could be certain their interpretation of the Bible was right. After all, so many people read the same things and come up with such different understandings. It was really a revelation to discover that the Holy Spirit actually confirms Biblical truth, and true Christ-followers gerenally see the central tenets of the gospel the same way because they all have the Holy Spirit in them!

Wow! What a concept! Praise God.

Hi there!

I happened to be browsing through the site and caught that you were asking about me, hehe.

I see you all got my message from last week. Right now I'm at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO getting ready to start my technical training tomorrow. Some of you my well understand when I say that I'm a lot happier to be out of the basic training environment. Having a lot of my freedoms back has allowed me to focus a lot more on my walk with God. About Sara, well she's not really on the computer much since she got rid of our high speed internet; she basically just doesnt use the computer much anymore. The situation with her back improved a lot about a couple weeks after I left, and she's nearly 100% again. CJ is back home with Mommy full time, but the day care really did help a lot with him. She still gets pretty stressed out dealing with CJ being his ol' toddler self and being pregnant (which by the way she's 4 months along now), but for the most part she seems to be dealing with it well. I've talked to her a lot this week which has helped us both out. I found out shortly after I got here that I won't graduate my tech school until 24 February 2004, which is about a month longer than we had originally anticipated. I will be allowed to take leave to go home for Christmas however, so we're trying to save for that. In the meantime, as much as I'd like to be home sooner, I know I have a job to do so I'll do it to the best of my ability. Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. I'll definitely be sure to pop in from time to time to let you all know how things are going. God bless you all, and take care!
