Did anyone get the mailer from the Sheperd's Rod/Davidian people this week? It appears they mailed it out to nearly all our SDA and former SDA friends in this area (wonder where they got the mailing list). The envelope we got had two pamplets in it. The pamplets were nearly cover to cover EGW quotes strung together in a rather incoherent way. Reading through the pamplets I had a mental picture of a wild-eyed cultist sitting in a trailer out in the wilderness feverishly typing from the EGW books sprawling over the kitchen table. There was one called "Time" that I scanned through several times, but I still can't understand the exact point that is being made. There was another that seemed to be appealing to SDAs to return to their roots and better conform themselves to the teachings of EGW. It castigated SDA leadership for their apostacy and leading "the church" into Egypt. It also continually talked about SDAs rejecting new light and said that EGW had predicted that new light would come. I interpretted this as suggesting the coming of a new prophet to succeed EGW. I have no idea who this might be, whether someone past, present, or future (David Koresh maybe?). The whole thing was VERY weird. But on the other hand, you have to almost respect the fact that these people have taken Adventism to it's logical conclusion. This group doesn't believe in the buffet line approach to Adventism and EGW, they don't pick and choose, they take the whole thing as is......even the incoherrent crazy parts. At least they're consistent, albeit it a bit nuts.

Ewwww, Chris....we haven't had anything from those guys in a long time. Thankfully! Sounds like their publications haven't changed one iota. I like your picture of the wildeyed cultist sitting at the table with EGW stuff spread everywhere copying. Yeah yeah, that was always the picture I had in mind when I saw there stuff. Tell me, do they still PEPPER everything with WORDS in CAPTIAL LETTERS. BECAUSE THAT just REALLY sets me OFF. YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN?
On this Thanksgiving Day lets praise God for His freedom from such folk!

Yes, Lydell, those CAPITAL letters always set ME off, TOO!

I also love your phrase, Chris, "the buffet line approach to Adventism and EGW." That perfectly describes what I see around me here in So. Cal. (and in other places, too, I'm sure!) You're right; those "right-wing offshoots" really are the TRUE ADVENTISTS, caps and all.

I am so thankful to be free in Christ and to be part of his body and to have a wonderful church where I learn the Bible and where we will go tonight to praise God, take communion with other believers, and witness several baptisms.

Praise God for setting us free!

Colleen
