My Mom and Dad visited us over the holidays. Last month I wrote that I was concerned that they might worry about my salvation and I was worried about them finding out that we have visited churches on Sunday, etc. I am thankful to say that we had a wonderful visit. My mom and i had some very good conversations. We talked about grace. We talked about what the gospel means and what it doesn't. She made the statement that the Adventist church preaches more diet and sabbath than Jesus. I don't discuss too much with my dad. A year ago, he got very angry when I said that i don't believe in EGW anymore, and said that he didn't want the subject brought up in his house again. My mom said that he said he wished he hadn't been so angry, but even though we were at my house,I'm still going to respect his wishes.
My Mom went to the Christmas Eve service with us at the church we have been visiting. I told her while we were there that we had been visiting here for a while. Next time they visit, I'm going to pray for the courage to invite them to Sunday service.

My mom has an aquaintance who is a new convert to Adventism. This young woman has called my mom and talk with her about how her family is upset with her for joining the adventists. This girl told my mom she was worried because of what her family was feeding her children (marshmallows)The church she attends is not the one my parents attend. The one she attends is very small and very egw. My mom told her that her family has always eaten marshmallows and maybe she should "read more of the Bible, especially Galations, instead of the other (egw)books." (A while back I told my mom to do this very same thing!)

My mom said that she was going to give her some of her extra EGW books, but now isn't going to.

Does anyone know where to find the information about the myth of EGW holding up the huge Bible?
I had told my mom about this a long time ago and she is curious, so is a friend of hers.

There are cracks in the adventist shell that are getting bigger. Light is finally getting in!

Leigh, I'm so glad you had such a good visit with your parents. Hopefully as they see that your faith and walk with Christ has not failed, but actually grows outside the SDA church, maybe they will start to question some other presumptions about "sundaykeepers" as well.

Leigh, I'm so happy to hear about your time with your parents! It does sound as if your mom is more open; wow, how cool it is that she referred her young Adventist friend to Galatians!

Leigh, It's wonderful that you had such a positive time with your mother. Actually there are numerous myths within Adventism about EGW.

Haven't had much time to post, and I'm not sure if I have updated anyone at all. So...Chattanooga didn't work out, we moved back to the house we rented out in the Nashville area in Nov. I got a great job, that is a long story too, in short, I was really thinking I had made a huge mistake moving away, wishing I hadn't, working in a terrible job down there in Chattanooga and one night I was watching a preacher on TV and at the end of his sermon he always has a "word of knowledge" I sort of have mixed thoughts on those most of the time but I said, "God, I really need a word, can you give this man a word for me?" The next thing he said was, There is a woman watching, you're about 35 and you are upset because you left a job that you think you shouldn't have left and you are worried you will never have another job like it, but the Lord says someone will call you, from a resume you sent out a long time ago and offer a better job than the one you had.

It happened, a man that managed my last dentist office called and offered me a job helping him manage offices. I'm making a lot more than I did before, he pays me 40.00 a day just for travel expenses and I get a cell phone paid for.

Praise God!

I do actually have a point for the family gathering thread. ;)

My mom and step dad came for Christmas and went to Sunday School and church with us and they really loved our church, mom said, I really like your church and Bill said, yes, that church has a really nice spirit. WOW! They were very talkative in Sunday School and involved in the discussion and it was so nice. Mom really likes the fact that those "Sunday" churches have coffee-she is a coffee feen.

Praise the Lord, He worked it all out for good--again! He is so faithful!

Praise God, Sabra, for your job and for your parents' reactions!
