I've been wondering if Derrell, Richard 777, Madelia, Lucias, Adrian, and some of the others we haven't heard from recently are still lurking.

We'd love to hear from you and hear how you're doing! Prayers for you continue...

Dear Colleen and everyone out there,
Thanks for asking. Yes, I confess I have been lurking!! Reading all of the threads is a great sense of support for me. I have been busy at work, plus we've have lots of snow here in Minnesota. It's made for long days to and from work. Plus 2 energetic kids when I get home :-)

I haven't posted in a long time because whenever I have a chance to get on the computer at home, usually one of my kids comes to see what I'm doing and I don't have the concentration to formulate my thoughts and post. And when I'm at work, there's usually someone else around too.

But today, I'm all by myself for a bit.

The good news is that I am attending a monthly Bible study in my neighborhood. We're going through the book of James. And I've signed up for a one day women's retreat at our local Christian college.

Unfortunately, I've not been unable to attend a worship service on Sundays. That was my resolution for the new year. Part of it's just getting up enough courage to say I'm going. Part of it is driving to my brother's with my kids to celebrate my nephew's birthdays. And part of it is just bad weather.

My husband is still as dyed-in-the-wool SDA as ever. But I'm realizing more and more than I can't change him; only God can. I wanted to cry the other night when my 8 year old daughter prayed, thanking God for the Sabbath and praying that people would learn to know about the Sabbath. That's what's being drilled into her head.

Interestingly, last night my husband came into the house with a little booklet about the SDAs. It was written by a professor from Grace University in Omaha (my mom attended college there when it was called Grace Bible Institute). Sam showed it to me and asked if I'd seen it before. I said I hadn't. He claimed he had found it in the trunk of my car. Anyway, he proceeds to go through it with my daughter and son and criticizing everything the man says. I looked at it briefly this morning and of course I think it is very well written. It goes through the typical SDA doctrines and refutes them, but in my husband's perspective, the writer's arguments aren't "Biblical"

So I just keep plugging along. I do attend church with them about twice a month, but I really don't participate, especially when they recite the 4th commandment as the statement of faith.

Thanks for all the prayers...I really need them!

I'm still around, thanks for asking Colleen. I keep up with reading the posts, but I have been very busy for ages with church, Bible college teaching, and translation work.

I was asked to teach Christology and Soteriology at Bible school (in Budapest) last year, and this year I have been given Ecclesiology to do as well. I am enjoying it, but it has meant doing a lot of preparation, and then there is all the essay and exam marking at the end. Exams have just finished, but teaching starts again next week.

I have been able to work in some of my studies on cults into the teaching, as it is relevant to the work of Christ, and to the way of salvation. After presenting the Biblical view of matters, I sometimes added sections on "divergent teachings" propagated by various churches and movements. One section in Christology was "the present work of Christ" (in heaven), involving Christ being head of the church, and interceding for us. I then brought in the Investigative Judgement as a "divergent teaching." You should have seen their faces when they heard about that for the first time! (The general impression here seems to be that Adventism is just another denomination, if a bit different.)

I managed to get away to visit friends in Cyprus for a week in January. That was a great experience, as well as a chance for a bit of a rest.

I got to give my presentation on Adventism again just before Christmas. This was at a church in Budapest where the pastor is someone I met about 25 years ago when I first worked in Hungary. It was pretty well understood and received I think.

Just another bit of news. The head of the Christian Advent Fellowship Bible college (historical Adventist breakaway group) had a weekly TV program on a channel called ATV. He very rarely included anything specifically Adventist, but a lot of people were drawn to attend the Bible school, where, of course, they would hear the rest of the story. Well, this TV channel has now been bought by the Faith Church, and the weekly Adventist TV program has now mysteriously disappeared. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for your prayers and support,

God bless,
Adrian

It's good to hear fromyou again, Madelia and Adrian. Congratulations on your teaching, Adrian! What a great opportunity. And Madelia, I'm so sorry about the difficulty of your situation and especially your kids' Adventist indoctrination. I continue to pray that they'll grow up knowing and loving Jesus and that your husband will come to see the truth.

Colleen
