Hi Guys,

Well, I had a post in my little pointed head New Year's Eve but didn't get to post it as both of my computers exploded and don't expect to get them glued back together for several more weeks;-))

I won't spend as much time on this as would have liked, but I'd like to share a couple highlights of 2000.

January 1, 2000.....was the day that we discovered that all 5 of our cats had feline leukemia. That is called starting out with a thud! Thanks to some herbs, the one remaining one (Big Bertha) is still doing great;-)

January 30, 2000....was the first time I laid eyes on this Forum. One of Max's post's was my introduction.

February 2, 2000....was my first of many post's on this site.

March 12(?), 2000....I was personally introduced to Jesus with a personalized message from Jesus to me. This was done by Max when he personalized Matthew 18:1-6 for me;-)

March 17, 2000....was one of the happiest days (daze) of my life. I met my new family in Redlands, the Tinker's and Troupe (FAFer's).

March, 2000....I was suspicious of an ongoing ulcer in my mouth having changed to cancer.

May 1, 2000....thanks to Bruce, I was able to see an oral surgeon that was willing to see me.

May 10, 2000....it was cancer!

May 24, 2000....had 20% of the side of my tongue filleted off and a graft "installed" from my posterior. All cancer was gone and recovery included NO noticable speech problems.

June 5, 2000....found a "one in a million mansion on a hilltop" to recover at and made arraingements to stay on this "hilltop" for a time.

August, 2000....made the decision to move from Las Vegas to "heaven" (Redlands)! And put my two kids in Christian school.

August, 2000....rented my Las Vegas home and made a major move!!!

August 28, 2000....installed my daughter in a Christian school and camped her out at the Tinker's while I made the last major "haul" from Las Vegas.

September 5, 2000....installed my son in another Christian school.

September through November....sank into a depression (can't understand why!?;-)

December, 2000....cut Christmas trees for a friend and came out of the depression while "bagging" hundreds of trees. Smelling the trees and the activity was just to strong to let me stay "down" very long!;-)))))

Since May, my union has paid me a really nice weekly check! It has really helped!

Well, those were just a few of the highlights of my year! Do any of you have some of your highlights to share?

Well, God has been good hasn't He?

Max, you can help me come up with a shortened version of how I can sign off:-)) Hmmmmmm, that's really trusting you!!! Be nice!!! Any and all ideas are welcome from any of y'all!

No Name Yet:,,,,-((

Maryann, I am speechless to your year 2000. Mine was much more mundane. Yours reads like an outline to a book. I'd love to hear more.

hm, i wrote this once, but let me try it again:

January 2000
celebrated in China with then Adventist boyfriend -- my first love, attended Adventist church for the first time

February 2000
my boyfriend and I promise before God not to break up over Adventism

March 2000
we decide to live together next year in the same apartment while he attends medical school and maybe own a dog (the dog was key)

May 2000
I graduate from College, my then boyfriend returns, and we fight about: raising our kids adventist. which to me was a nonissue b/c the summer before I had already made it clear that there was no chance of that happening.

June 2000
I get my first post college job. I find FAF for the first time. I ask my then boyfriend why there are "former adventists" I research and ask him more things about adventism.

july 2000
my then boyfriend breaks up with me on the phone a week short of our 1 year anniversary. not until a month later does he talk to me in person about how he broke up with me b/c I didn't become adventist

august 2000
I spend more time with FAF than ever, I finally realize that Adventism is a cult

sept 2000
depression

october - november 2000
trip to thailand, wrote a webpage about my experiences with Adventism, trying to reach as many adventists as possible

november - december 2000
I fell into another depression, and left with no certainty about my life except for Christ and my salvation.

I know what you mean, Chyna. How fortunate
was your boyfriend that our Sovereign allowed
him to have a woman with your mind for even
so brief a time. Your webpage is convincing
and powerful.

About depresson and creativity: Do you know
anything about Kay Redfield Jamison and her
book: TOUCHED WITH FIRE (New York:
Macmillan, 1993)?

From the book's dust jacket: "Dr. Jamison is
professor of psychiatry at ther Johns Hopkins
University School of Medicine and the
co-author of the definitive medical text
'Manic-Depressive Illness.' Dr. Jamison is a
member of the National Advisory Council for
Human Genome Research. She is also the
executive producer and writer for a series of
award-winning public television specials
about manic-depressive illness and the arts."

This last bit -- "the arts" -- is key. For the
book's thesis is that the bipolar condition is
associated with creativity, especially genius.

Here is a very-partial sampling of writers,
authors and composers with bipolar
condition:

POETS
Charles Baudelaire
William Blake
Robert Burns
Lord Byron
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Emily Dickinson
T.S. Eliot
Victor Hugo
John Keats
Vachel Lindsay
James Russell Lowell
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Boris Pasternak
Sylvia Plath
Edgar Allen Poe
Ezra Pound
Theodore Roethke
Percy Bysshe Shelley
Sara Teasdale
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Dylan Thomas
Walt Whitman

WRITERS
Hans Christian Andersno
Honore do Balzac
John Bunyan - wrote "Pilgrim's Progress"
Samuel Clemens = Mark Twain
Joseph Conrad
Charles Dickens
Ralph Waldo Emerson
William Faulkner
F. Scott Fitzgerald
Ernest Hemmingway
Hermann Hesse
Henrik Ibsen
Henry James
William James
Charles Lamb
Herman Melville
Eugene O'Neill
Mary Shelley - wrote "Frankenstein"
Robert Louis Stevenson
Tennessee Williams
Virginia Woolf
Emile Zola

COMPOSERS
Hector Berloiz
Anton Bruckner
George Frideric Handel - wrote the "Messiah"
Gustav Holst - wrote "The Planets"
Charles Ives
Otto Klemperer
Gustav Mahler
Modest Mussorgsky
Sergey Rachmaninoff
Giocchino Rossini
Robert Schumann
Peter Tchaikovsky

NON-CLASSICAL
Irving Berlin
Noel Coward
Stephen Foster
Charles Parker
Cole Porter

ARTISTS
Paul Gauguin
Vincent van Gogh
Michelangelo - sculpted David, the Pieta;
painted the Cistine Chapel ceiling
Georgia O'Keeffee
Jackson Pollock

Not bad for company, huh? Our Sovereign
reigns o'er the world without end. Amen.

It may be that bipolar condition is essential for
ALL creativity and ESPECIALLY genius.

Thank you, Maryann.
I have no choice but to trust in Jesus. There is nothing else in this life that is solid and stable except for His infinite love and mercy toward us rebellious and sinful humans.

God bless you always,
Grace and peace,

thanks for all your encouragement max and your perspective.

while grieving i asked God why did He put me through all this pain? i mean, what were the chance i would end up with a cultist as a boyfriend? i had only known of one adventist prior to him. God answered that He loved Andy.

i feel like a portion of my grief is selfish. i want all the adventists i know to come out NOW so i can have fellowship with my fellow brothers and sister's in Christ. i am impatient with God's timing, quite honestly. but His is perfect, mine is limited by my view from ground up, instead of heaven down.

i keep reminding myself that in heaven there will be no more tears.

yup, max, i am a poet. i have always had very extreme emotions. intense sadness or intense joy. i have studied bipolar disorder but since i took psych as a science i am a great believer in drugs (compensating for hypo or hyper quantities of neurotransmitters).

i'm now going to create a topic on fear.

one day i hope, in heaven, i'll be able to see all of the impact God has funneled through me to Adventists. i know andy will thank me one day, the question is if it will be next month or next 40 years from now.

dear maryann,

i am very well acquainted with your writings and stories on FAF and as Valerie says it reads like a book. I think it would be an AWESOME idea for you to write a book. it would be such a wonderful testimony especially how God has preserved you even through a lot of really painful/terrible things.
