THE GOSPEL RESULTS IN THE GIVING OF
THE HOLY SPIRIT

NIV Acts 15:6 The apostles and elders met to
consider this question.
7 After much discussion, Peter got up and
addressed them: "Brothers, you know that
some time ago God made a choice among
you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips
the message of the GOSPEL and believe.
8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he
accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to
them, just as he did to us.

Hi Patti,

There is so much to answer and re-answer. This discussion sorta goes on and hashes and re-hashes the SAME stuff over and over and over and over.

The thing I wanted to respond to is WAY up some where above and don't have time to look for it.
So, without going and finding the post, I'll make a comment.

You had said something to the effect that I said, you said that I deny the gospel. You said you never said that. That's right, you never did say that. Yet, by strongly illuding to me saying that I'm attaching "WORKS" to salvation, I "believe" that you think I'm denying the gospel.

In the same way, you have NEVER said that you deny the Holy Spirit, yet from our discussion, I have believed that you do.

In the future, I will attempt to leave the, "she thought's and the she does's" out of it;-))

Sooooooo;-)), since this discussion is so repetitious, I want to do something besides responding back and forth.

This back and forth takes waaaaaaaaaay to much of my time. And it's pointless as we seem to say the same thing over and over. I have a study I want to do and I want to COMPLETE it. Then I want to present it here. I've learned some really neat things and want to share them but am hindered by the impass we seem to be at.

Being obsessed with the gospel is a good thing! I was agreeing with your words. That is NOT and insult!;-))

In conclussion, I will restate:

We are saved by grace alone. That is, grace plus nothing equals our complete and secured salvation of which NOTHING we can do can reverse or add to it.

Our choice is then to follow the Holy Spirit in directing our lives. He directs your focus and my focus up to Him. You ministry and my ministry take different paths as we are each individuals that God created. With the focal point on Him, the various individual drives and burns in each of our hearts for others and the burn and desire to see them in the kingdom are nurtured by the Spirit.

I have a burning desire for the lost and I know you do too!!;-))

Your sis in Christ......Maryann....IBC

By believing the gospel you "become an
offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the
Holy Spirit." After that you become "full of
goodness, complete in knowledge and
competent to instruct one another."

14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that
you [Gentile believers in Rome] yourselves are
full of goodness, complete in knowledge and
competent to instruct one another.
15 I have written you quite boldly on some
points, as if to remind you of them again,
because of the grace God gave me
16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the
Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming
the GOSPEL of God, so that the Gentiles
might become an offering acceptable to God,
sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

NIV Romans 15

The gospel ESTABLISHES you.

25 Now [glory be] to him [God] who is able to
establish you by my GOSPEL and the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the
revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages
past....

Paul preached a gospel of the cross of Christ
that was FULL OF POWER.

NIV 1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ did not send
me to baptize, but to preach the GOSPEL--not
with words of human wisdom, lest the cross
of Christ be emptied of its power.

Gospel enabled Paul to become a FATHER to
the believers in Corinth. And they, in turn, were
to IMITATE Paul by the way they were to treat
Timothy.

15 ...in Christ Jesus I became your father
through the GOSPEL. 16 Therefore I urge you
to imitate me. 17 For this reason I am sending
to you Timothy....

NIV 1 Corinthians 4

The gospel produces BLESSINGS.

23 I [Paul] do all this for the sake of the
GOSPEL, that I may share in its blessings.

After you believe the gospel you are SEALED
with the Holy Spirit, who guarantees your
eternal inheritance.

13 And you also were included in Christ when
you heard the word of truth, the GOSPEL of
your salvation. Having believed, you were
marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy
Spirit,
14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our
inheritance until the redemption of those who
are God's possession--to the praise of his
glory.

NIV Ephesians 1:13-14

The gospel produces UNITY.

This mystery is that through the GOSPEL the
Gentiles are heirs together with Israel,
members together of one body, and sharers
together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

NIV Ephesians 3:6

The gospel produces PEACE.

NIV Ephesians 6:14 Stand firm then, with the
belt of truth buckled around your waist, with
the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the GOSPEL of peace.

NIV Philippians 1:27ÝWhatever happens,
conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the
GOSPEL of Christ.

The gospel produces HOPE, FAITH and LOVE

Colossians 1

4 ...we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus
and of the love you have for all the saints--
5 the faith and love that spring from the hope
that is stored up for you in heaven and that you
have already heard about in the word of truth,
the GOSPEL 6 that has come to you.

NIV Colossians 1:4-6

Maryann,
This conflict has no resolution. Because, unlike a branch of the Lutherans have so gallantly tried to do of late, there can be no compromise of the Gospel, no blending of reformational theology and Catholicism, no unity of salvation by grace alone and salvation merely initiated by grace. As I have said before, this is the Reformation in a teapot. The same issues we are thrashing out here have been affecting the church for centuries:

Salvation by:
Christ's righteousness alone, or
Christ's righteousness and our transformed lives.

The righteousness by which we are made right with God is either righteousness by:
Faith alone (that which remains unseen and untouched by human hands), or
Faith which works (our faith, our love, our changed hearts)

The righteousness by which we are accepted with the Father is either:
The imputed (credited) obedience of Jesus Christ alone, or
The obedience of Jesus Christ and our own "imparted" filthy rags righteousness

I implore you yet again to read the old Brinsmead stuff. He has a masterful use of words, and presented the Gospel powerfully particularly from an SDA viewpoint. His old sermons are also available for listening at the same website.

Grace and peace always,
Patti

PS Maryann, it is difficult enough to communicate without judging somebody upon what one believes that the other might be implying. Judge my words, please. Not the motives you think might be hidden behind them. 'Nuff said?

The gospel comes "to you not simply with
words, but also with POWER, with the Holy
SPIRIT and with deep CONVICTION.

NIV 1 Thessalonians 1:5Ý...because our
gospel came to you not simply with words, but
also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with
deep conviction.

The gospel produces CHANGED LIVES.

1 Thessalonians 2:8 We loved you so much
that we were delighted to share with you not
only the GOSPEL of God but our lives as
well....

Gospel CHANGES LIVES so that they might
"live according to God."

NIV 1 Peter 4:6ÝFor this is the reason the
gospel was preached even to those who are
now dead, so that they might be judged
according to men in regard to the body, but live
according to God in regard to the spirit.

Gospel produces OBEDIENCE and
CHANGED LIVES that DO GOOD

NIV 1 Peter 4:17 ...what will the outcome be for
those who do not obey the GOSPEL of God?
18 And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be
saved, what will become of the ungodly and
the sinner?"
19 So then, those who suffer according to
God's will should commit themselves to their
faithful Creator and continue to do good.
