I am a former SDA who has worked through the theological issues but would benefit from spiritual, social and emotional support from other "formers". I live in Maine. Are there any of you out there?

I hope there are others who will respond both to Bill and to Violet in OK. I'm convinced people everywhere are discovering truth. It's hard to emerge and admit what we're finding, but when we do, our freedom grows.

Bill, even if you don't find other formers in Maine, you can at least enjoy the support of those on this forum. How did you work through the theological issues? How long have you been studying? What are your biggest questions or doubts or difficulties right now? We'd love to hear more from you!

Colleen

Colleen, I was a Conference Bible Worker. I studied with a lot of people to lead them into the SDA Church. After a while I began to see how often SDAs have used poor exegesis and violated clear principles of interpretation to prove some of their doctrines. In the early nineties I re-read Geoffrey Paxton's book "The Shaking of Adventism" and it clarified the issue of the gospel for me and also how Adventists have flip-flopped and waffled on that central issue. I read some of Ford's books. "Daniel 8:14 The Day of Atonement And The Investigative Judgment" was particularly an eye opener because it clearly documents how the best Adventist theologians have known for years that this doctrine and the methods Adventists use to teach it are untenable. The Sabbath articles by Ratzlaff and Gladstone, in Adventist Today around that time helped me immensely. I bought some of Ratzlaff's books and they completed the picture. It took me awhile to digest it all, but I knew I couldn't teach traditional SDA doctrine anymore. I left Bible Work in '94 and finally left the Church in '97. The way Richard Frederick's was handled was the last straw for me. I gave up hope that the gospel would ever be central in Adventism.

Wow, Billówhat a journey! You really did study yourself out all by yourself! Praise God that he used Adventist Today to help you. Richard and I used to pray that God would communicate his grace and truth through the articles and stories we were able to publish.

I think you're rightóThe gospel can't really be central in a church that is founded on deception. Even though individuals may find Jesus and begin to teach grace, if they fail to walk through the doors God opens as they learn the truth, their teaching will eventually become compromised. Truth and deception are opposites, not just different ends of a continuum.

Feel free to discuss and debrief with all of us here who know what you're going through!

Praising God for choosing us and drawing us to himself,
Colleen

Very cool Story Bill. God's ways are constantly amazing.

FAF'ers ...ok Colorado sounds good. And Clay Peck's Grace Place is 2 hours from Colorado Springs area. There's a lot of beautiful sites near Colorado Springs...Pikes Peak, the Air Force Academy...and that beautiful chapel they have there, Garden of the god (awesome rock formations)...just to name some stuff...Go see sites during the days together, worship together in the morning and evenings, head out to Grace Place for a two day adventure....I don't know...It has possibilities...Any takers on planning something?

FAF Campmeeting; A God Given Inspiration if you ask me. Colorado Springs would be great.

We are really having a hard time finding a church locally. We are so close to a major SDA mecca too, that there is a lot of influence hard to avoid. Anybody know of an FAF group close to the Knoxville, Maryville Tennessee area?

Needing God's Guidance for spiritual growth and fellowship. Please pray for us.

Well, y'all, I'll bet we could arrange an FAF weekend here in So. California if you were interested. I'm quite certain Trinity Church would give us a venue; the mountains are 45 mins. away, the beach an hour away, and the desert 45 min. away. There's something for everyone! And Redlands is quite a charming town. We could all attend Trinity's Sunday service at the end of the weekendóthey have awesome services with the best preaching/Bible teaching I've heard anywhere in my life.

We could talk to Dale Ratzlaff about ideas for speakers/meetings; we'll be seeing him this summer.

I'd like to ask all of you to join Richad and me in praying for God's will about this idea. Let's ask him to make it clear if, when, and where we should do it.

ok, if a campmeeting is scheduled, please let us know as early as possible, the only way i could attend is if i found a really, really, good air fare, which can take some time. (sabra, lydell, & others in the southeast, ya think we could drive all the way to calif?) i would love to attend though, am very eager to meet other formers. love and prayers to all, carol

That is why I thought a central state like Colorado would be nice. We may need to have every one send in thier local and plot a central location.

My personal vote is for something more central too. I don't think I could afford to go all the way to California. But that's just my vote. We are coming from all over, and if people from Maine, Maryland, etc. want to participate too, maybe CA would be too far as well. But like Colleen has said, first things first, let us all pray fervantly in regards to God's will about it...what does He want? Will He be honored and glorified in it?.....and so on.

Happy 4th of July today folks. Thank God for the freedom of religion we have (so far) in the USA that allows us to leave a religion without being killed for it. Leaving SDAism is no fun, but our brothers and sisters in Christ in lands like China and Muslim countries face persecution, torture, and death on a daily basis for simply chosing Jesus. Let's remember them in prayer as well.

Central location sounds better to me also, but I would try to attend anywhere...I will be praying for Gods will and His leading.
Thanks,
Janet

Actually, Lincoln, Nebraska (home of hundreds of former Adventists) is a CENTRAL location for everyone. Maybe the College View SDA Church would let us use the antique pulpit that Ellen White preached from (smile).

whatever is decided, i'd just like as much notice as possible to keep an eye out for good air fares, just a few weeks ago my travelocity "fare watcher" alerted me to a round-trip fare for Atlanta-Los Angeles at somewhere around $175, can't beat that! so as long as i have some notice and it's an accessible city, i think i could do it. that's just MY personal situation, don't know about everyone else! love and prayers to all, carol

I agree Carol. It would be nice to have some notice to be able to check on air fares.
Still praying for God's leading and timing in an FAF Campmeeting,
Janet

This is the first time I have read this posting. I hope all of you know about the FAF meeting in Dallas, TX July 30,31 2004. I saw it here on this forum. I cannot afford it at this time, but if I could I would go.
God is awesome.
