Bob George began his series on Your Identity in Christ last Friday and I wanted to share a few points from the message.

The one, huge point he made right from the outset of his introduction was that it is absolutely impossible to have any type of true identity outside the person of Jesus Christ. You and I were created to be children of God. Let me say that again: we were created to be children of God. That means having close, personal relations with God the Father. Adam and Eve had that before the Fall. Because of sin and our subsequent spiritual death, we lost the very identity we were supposed to have. But God didn't remove the desire within us to be identified by something.

Bob talked repeatedly about having a "God-shaped vacuum" inside our spirits that of course can only be shaped by God. Because of our flesh, we as humans will cling on to anything that will give us a sense of identity. In every case, like fitting a square peg in a round hole, the identity we give ourselves fits for a time, and then wears, doesnt bring satisfaction. As Christians, we like to cling to denominational labels. We go around saying "I'm an Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Seventh-day Adventist, etc." ANY IDENTITY OUTSIDE THAT OF A CHILD OF GOD IS TOTALLY AGAINST WHO YOU REALLY ARE AS A BELIEVER. Why? Because as a child of God the Spirit of God lives within you.

Another good point he made was that denominational labels do not by any means make you a child of God. Just because you sit in a pew at "First Whatever Church at the corner of Walk and Dont Walk" (credit Bob George) does not make you a child of God! What a lot of Christians dont realize or arent told is that they are already a child of God. Discovering that for the first time is liberating, and life changing.

There's a lot more I want to share from this, but that's all I can remember for now. I'll have to listen to it again and get back with you.

Thanks, Joel. I don't know anyone (that doesn't mean there aren't any others!) who preaches the power of our true identities in Christ like Bob George does. I really am thankful that God has given him this insight and this ministry. That identity is the power and security of being a Christian.

The one thing I really learned since reading through the New Testament is that I am a child of God. I have no doubt about that. I have no problem saying I am a Christian.
Where does this Bob George preach? Is it on the radio?

Flyinglady,

He's on the radio. His ministry operates a website at www.realanswers.net. I understand too they just got added to Christianity.com in their list of ministries. His website has a link so you can find the radio station close to you. The series he's teaching on identity airs on Fridays.
