Hi Everyone: I have a friend who has been battling throat cancer. He has had radiation twice a day for 6 to 8 weeks. After that, they started him on cemo. It is making him very sick.
He hasn't had anything to eat or tasted food for months and has to feed himself through a tube in his stomach with Ensure. He has lost all his hair and he is skin and bones. His mother has altymers( sorry for the spelling) and keeps him up all night. He has no money and can't work.
I talked to him today, he feels like giving up.
He could really use all your prayers. His name is Chris. We used to play music together and started playing in church when we were very young. He is starting to lose faith in God at a time when he really needs the Lord. Please pray that the Spirit will convict him and he will stay the course. I have tried talking to him, but he is in another world right now. All your prayers will be very much appreicated. God Bless- Patrick

Does he get mail at a po box? Or, is there any way I could send him a gift cirtificate to like Safeway or Wal-Mart so he could get some things he needs? I would like to do this. On the Internet it is not wise to give out a home address but I think a p.o. box address would be fine. Other than prayers this is the best I can offer.

Patrick, I'm praying for Chris as I write this. I'm praying that he will be willing to know his need for the Lord and find His peace and the gift of life. I'm also praying that you will have wisdom from God as you interact with him, that God will speak through you to him.

Patrick,
Here are some words from one of Steve Green's songs. Maybe it will minister to your friend, I know it does to me. The song is titled "My Soul Found Rest", and it's on his "The Faithful" CD.

It was the mercy of our God
Where all my hopes began
When through the water and the blood
He washed my soul from sin
For it was not by righteousness
That my own hands had done
But I was saved by sovereign grace
Abounding through His Son

In the cross my soul found rest
By Christ's wondrous sacrifice
For justice met with mercy there
And God was satisfied
And there my soul found rest.

I also am praying for your friend.

I prayed for your friend right after reading your post. None of us knows why things like this happen and that is not important. What is important is that God can make good come out of his situation. I will continue to pray for him.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and thoughts. I praise God for this site and for directing me here.

Chris is one of my best friends. I want so much for him to believe that God is there and loves him. Colleen, I too pray that the Lord will give me words and wisdom to say the right things.
Sabra, Diana, Esther thank you and please continue to remember Chris in your prayers daily.

Susan_2, Thank you for your prayers and support. There is no Safeways here in the Tampa Bay area. But we do of course have Wal-mart.

I don't really worry about anyone misusing this PO Box, if they do, they might get a blessing because they would be prayed for and besides, the Lord Himself watches over my PO Box.

Love In Christ

Patrick,
Is Wesley Chapel anywhere near Tampa? I ask because my youngest brother is a former SDA who is looking for a Christian church to attend. He lives in New Port Richey. If you live near enough maybe you two can meet and fellowship. He studied himself out of the church a number of years ago. He joined this forum, but I have not seen him post anything yet.
I continue to pray for your friend, Chris. God's hands are on both of you.
Our God is truly AWESOME.

Patrick,
I am praying for your friend Chris. Does he have anyone helping him through this in terms of a caregiver? That can make all the difference in the world. It is so exhausting, mentally, physicaly, spiritually, to go through chemo. He may be getting clinically depressed, as well, so that may be affecting his outlook.

I will pray for continued strength and guidance for you both.

Take care,
Grace

Patrick,

Prayer for your friend Chris coming from Ocala, here. Long time sickness and facing mortality can take so much faith. Turn his eyes to Jesus and tell him to hang on tight. Even when it hurts the worst, hang on. Even when it doesn't make sense, hang on. Some times you want to say some really bad stuff to him and get real mad at Him, but when you are done doing all of that, HANG ON. He is so big and strong and He cares so much for you. You can't offend Him and He will never let you go.

Tell your friend that from one who loves him.

All about Grace!

Thanks to all for your prayers and helpful words.
I am copying your posts and sharing with him the ones I believe will lift him up.

Diana, Yes, New Port Richey is in the same county as Wesley Chapel.Tampa is the nearest "Big City" to us. I would like very much to meet your brother. Give him my PO Box and have him write to me. Thanks for the prayers.

Grace, Chris is starting to show signs of deep depression. That is why I believe that he is trying to give up. I don't know. He does not have insurance and I am not sure who is taking care of him. I think that the doctor is doing it on his own. I need to find out if there is a way that I can get him to see someone for the depression. I will investigate that, Thank you

May the blessings of our God be with you all.

Patrick, I'm so very sorry about your friend. I will pray for him and for you too. I know it must be very very sad to see your friend sick and in such a depression. How long has he been battling this and does the Doctors give him any hope or length of time? How old is he?

Hey Nancy, Chris is 39 years old. He was dianosed with Head Cancer in Febuary this year. He had a tummer the size of a lemon directly behind his throat. Chris went to the doctor with a sore throat for several months starting in November last year. They decided to do a catscan after months of treating him for stripthroat. That's when they found the tummer. They immediately started him on Radiation. He was going twice a day, everyday. I didn't know it, but he was driving himself to the treatments. I had some good friends praying for him night and day. We also annoyted him with oil and had group prayer sessions. The tummer is now gone! Praise God!
But he still as to feed himself through a tube in his stomach with Ensure and water because the kemo has broke down his resistance and the scars in his throat have become infected. So his throat is just as sore or even worse then it was before the radiation stopped. He is very depressed and feels like he will never taste food again. He is physcally and mentally drained. And wants to give up.

Please continue to pray for Chris.
Love in Christ

Patrickfoy,
How is your friend Chris? He is still in my prayers.
I gave my brother in Florida your information, but I doubt that he will contact you for his own reasons.
God bless,
Diana

Dear Patrick,

Please let Chris know that my prayers are also going up to our Lord.

Chris,

If you are able, please read the book of Job for he too was severely tested and he began to lose hope and was so depressed through his sickness also. There is nothing wrong with being depressed for that is perfectly natural. Many of the prophets were men who were depressed. So you are in good company.

But it's what you do with your depression that matters. You can hang on to the faith that God gave to you........or you can decide to give up on God. The latter is a really bad choice and of course I know you know this.

Keep hanging on to your trust in Jesus Christ of Nazareth because nomatter how bad things can get here in this short life, you have another life that will last eternity with God Himself Chris.

My heart goes out to you and I don't even know you but I do know that you are my brother in Christ and one day I should like to meet you.

Life--it's so full of these terrible times that we wonder "what's it all about?" I'm sure you've wondered and are probably still wondering that. If I'm wrong with my guessing how you may feel or think, forgive me. I'm just a sinner like we all are but still my heart and thoughts are really on you.

Please, whatever you do, hang on to your faith, even if it's just a little mustard seed. Sometimes for myself that's all I have. But Jesus tells us that that is enough.

Rest my brother and do your best not to fret but instead look to Jesus, your Hope. He's right there with you Chris. He promised you He would never leave nor forsake you. Now trust Him.

I'd like to send a letter to you through the P.O. Box given and you don't have to reply back if you are not up to the task or are too far down in a slump due to your sickness. Either way, because I know how or somewhat how you may be feeling, this is my way to try to help hold you up.

Until we meet (And we will <grin>), May God Bless you with His Peace, in Jesus Christ Name this I pray for you. amen.

A sister in Christ Jesus of Nazareth, our God.

denise
