Jeanette, welcome, it's nice to have you join in on this discussion board. My son attends a Spanish only SDA church. He recently showed me his new Bible. Each page has a line down the center with a text by text comparison. The left side of the page is in Spanish and the right side of the page is in English. His wife speeks only Spanish and the kids are growig up as Spanish as a first language. I think at any Christian bookstore the proprieter can help you out.

Diana: Thanks for getting the address for Rey, I have gone to the ellenwhite.org website in spanish, the only problem is that some of EGW books don't exist in spanish and unless I show her in black and white she feels that it is just lies that someone put on the internet.
Ric_b: I am praying that God will put his words in my mouth when I talk to my mom. BTW she called this morning while I was at church, my husband told her where I was and this pm when I took her shopping she didn't say a word to me. At first she acted kind of cold but after a while she was ok.
Susan_2 Thanks for your suggestion. My mom has the spanish Bible version equivalent to the KJV I bought her the NIV in spanish but she gives me a thousand and one excuses for not using it. I read spanish really well but it is very hard for me to translate. BTW, how are you doing I keep you and your sons in my prayers always.

Jeannette,
I understand better now about your Mother. Write to Rey Cantu, as you had said you would do and I am sure he can help you with the spanish versions of EGW. I will continue to pray for you, your Mom and your sister. God has His ways of getting through to individuals and He will get through to your Mother.
He is awesome.

I just looked back at the topic of this thread, and remembering how it was for me, I think sincere people, no matter what their religious persuasions are, will be subject to the urgings of the Holy Spirit. I didn't really respond to anything I heard from Gospel believers before I was ready to hear it. The same will be true of your loved ones who are still under the sway of EGW and SDAism. Trust me, they are running into walls all of the time because SDAism is an imperfect and incomplete system, and the searchers for truth are finding the chinks in the walls whether they are looking for them or not. The Holy Spirit will continue to work on them until they have their own a-hah moments. We all went through them, remember? Some of those moments were hard to face, painful to face, but we did it. Keep praying, and continue to remain available to those you love so that when they finally "get it" they can come to you for help.

I only said this because that is exactly what I needed. It helps to have documentation to share with them "when they ask for it." They won't crack a cover until that moment is achieved. I've had dear ones tell me that the books I have were the spawn of the Devil. They won't see it until the glimmer of light begins to dawn in their own souls.

I was really struck this week by the blind devotion to denomination among some SDAs. We (Raven and I) informed our friends and family recently that we had chosen to leave the SDA church because of doctrinal differences. We chose not to spell out those differences in our announcement (except to our pastor and family), reserving our explanation for those who asked us directly. Of course, some immediately concluded that if we had ANY doctrinal differences we had been deceived and they will pray for us. This wasn't shocking.

The "Why can't they see it?" reaction that surprised me was among several friends that did ask about our "doctrinal differences." I politely explained: rejecting EGW as either a prophet or a "good" Christian writer; rejecting the IJ because it was firmly against grace; understanding the NT Sabbath rest as a rest from our works rather than a day; rejecting legalism, and embracing the freedom that is in Christ. And the response from several people was, that is pretty much what we believe, I don't see why you had to leave the SDA church! I'm still shaking me head!

Yes, Rick and I are married. My name is Sheryl, and I wasn't ready to share my identity until my family knew, since they're all SDA.

Welcome again Ric_b and Raven. It is so good to see a family come out together. I am sure you have tales to tell of how the Holy Spirit led you out. God Bless you as you continue to find out what the Gospel is and what the Bible really says.
God is awesome.

We submitted our story--hopefully it will be posted soon. By the way Diana, I read from other posts that you're an O.T. and LLU grad. So was my dad; what years did you attend?

Raven,
I graduated 1963. Mine was the third graduating class. Was your Dad there when I was and is he an OT also?

Diana,

My Dad, Eldon Enevoldson, was in the first graduating OT class, that I thought graduated in 1962, but it could have been 1961. He was one of only three students in that class. He worked in OT until his retirement.

Raven/Sheryl,
I remember your Dad's name. I do not think I ever met him. If his was the first graduating class it was in 1961. What a small world!!!!
What did he and your Mom say when you told them you left the SDA church? I hope they were nice about it. I am looking forward to reading about you and your husband.
God is Good and He is awesome.

Diana,
Without posting the details, we'll just say that while my mom was not happy, she is at least respecting our decision, but wants us to continue to study and pray. Unfortunately, it is not possible to inform my dad, since he has already passed away.

Raven,
You can certainly comply with her request that you "continue to study and pray" since bible study and prayer are such a big part of the Christian life! And I hope that your mither is doing the same.
I will be praying for your family.

Sheryl,
Complying with her request is simple enough as that is what you and your husband have been doing. I will put your Mom on my prayer list along with you and your family.
Diana
