My in-laws arrived today. I have mentioned it before, they are devout SDAs, SDA school teachers. They are going to be staying with us for over a week. I just feel like God might lead us into a discussion about SDAism at some point while they are here.

We need prayer for God's leading and direction if it comes up! We want to be God's vessels for His message, not just "argue our point of view."

Please remember us in prayer.
thanks!

Tanya,
I prayed for you as soon as I read your request. I asked God to put the words in your's and your husband's mouth that he wants you to speak. I also asked God to take the veil off their minds and to open their eyes and ears. Relax in God's arms. You will be cared for by Him. I will pray
for you every day. Let us know what happens.
Remember our God is AWESOME.

Tanya, I know this may not be an easy week at times... esp. over the Sabbath hours!

Fortunately, sundown is quite late Friday night! And if the weather is good Saturday, maybe you can get them worn out doing outside nature things.

Aren't you in the Northwest? Beautiful days! with many places to enjoy!

If you're anywhere close to it, the Oregon Campmeeting has begun out in Gladstone/Portland area. Maybe you can drop them of there for a few hours. :-)

Whatever... my husband and I try to just focus on the reality of Jesus. A Jesus who is really enough for all we need in this life and in eternity! A positive Christ-centered conversation with the emphasis on Jesus' sufficiency can be baffling to Adventists who really believe you must add more to His finished work for us in which we have our True Sabbath Rest!

grace always,
cindy

Tanya,
I will be praying for you as well! In-laws coming over can be stressful enough, let alone the potential to having to discuss denominational issues. Please post if you need any support!

Tanya,
I feel "stressed" just thinking about your week ahead...I am VERY understanding of your situation...please know you are being held up in my prayers.

Cindy,
I do the same thing with my parents and in-laws...I have spoken about Jesus and my love for Him more in the last 5-6 years than in the rest of my years combined (and that adds up to 35+ years....I'm 43 and proud to be "old"!!). I think my openness has not only stopped some of their verbalizing negative comments (at least to my face) but may also be softening a few hearts (not because of me but only through Jesus!). My mom said a few years ago that she is starting to believe there may actually be Catholics in Heaven! That was HUGE!!

Sooo...Tanya...don't preach but let your love for Jesus SHINE!!!! Let His praises flow from your mouth like David - Check out Psalms 100! You go girl!!!!

You sure in a pickle of a situtation. I guess it means no bacon with your toast and coffee for breakfast. I guess it means no partying down at the local pub. No high stakes or even low stakes poker games to fill the evening hours. Heck, you all can't even go to the movies and especially not go see The Passion. I guess you all can just sit on your couch and watch 3ABN. Good luck keeping your sanity this week. It will probably go down in your history as one of the most boring weeks you ever had to endour. My heart and prayers are headed up to God for you.

Tanya, I'm also praying for you and for your husband, that you will know what and if to speak, and that God will prepare their hearts.

Praying also Tanya. Been there too, it is dreadful, isn't that terrible? I think it is best to only answer what they bring up, at least in my situation. God will let you know. Blessings,

THis in-law visit will be easier than last years for one reason... last year they were here for 2 and a half weeks! This year, my husband put his foot down and said one week was plenty long enough. They complained and even cried a little, but acquiesced. So at least it will be ONE boring week instead of 2 and a half!

(looking on the bright side of things) :0)

One of the things we are doing is inviting them to do the Experiencing God study this every evening with us after the kids go to bed. So we will see how that goes.

Thanks for the prayers, we certainly need them.

Susan---I couldn't help but laugh at your post. No bacon, w/ your toast or coffee. Ha! Ha! With some its---no eggs or milk, blah, blah, blah!!!! Most of the obese people I've encoutered with health issues were Adventist but yet they have the so called "Health Message" too along w/ everything else they have a patent on. They get their pants in a wad over such things but when you brought up the 3ABN thing, I laughed again. My mother watches that and is always dropping hints about it like I'm going to turn it on or something and come back to the "fold" I've always wondered why they will turn on the tv on the "Sabbath". They seem to have their own little rules for so called "Sabbath keeping". Have you ever noticed that? They will blast other people for doing things but it's OK for them. I'm also tired of hearing about the Catholics and the future predictions about them and of course what's going to happen to us b/c we're following that stupid beast!!!!! Aside from that, I feel sorry for Tanya. Believe me, they will bring something up very subtle like so she needs to be on guard. I"ll pray the same, "God gives Tanya the words and strength to stand up in a loving way. Sometimes that's hard b/c it's usually confrontations w/ them. Anyway, I like your sense of humor Susan!!

Since this heading is "Prayer Ill put a quick prayer request here. My son has a wonderful, dear girlfriend(?). I keep trying to get them married. It's not working. Anyway, she just found out that her mother died last night. Within the past year and a half her husband died, her mothers husband died and her grandmothrs husband died. And, now she heard just this morning that her own mother died last night. This poor, dear girl. She's only 31 years old. She's very upset and distraught right now. I have let her know we will be here for her. Please, keep her and their family in your prayers and pray too that me and my family can be a help to her.

Her own husband got shot in the face and died during a drug deal gone bad. The coronor is doing the autopsy today because it is assumed the mothers death is self caused. She's got two young children. It's hard on her dealing with so much sadnes in such a breif amount of time.

Dear Nancy, I honestly had hought the SDA church had gotten over its fixation with the Catholic church. Then last week at the local SDA church I actually heard a sermon by the local pastor about how the Pope/Catholic Church will play into the endtime events. He somehow pulled this sermon together about how everyone in the congreation needs to write their representives and senators to encourage legistation forcing employers to give SDA's Saturdays off from work. So, as a registured Libertarian I e-mailed my representives and senorters that this is a free country and an employeer should be able to make his own rules for employment and an employer expecting his employees to work on Saturdays in no way takes away from someones freedom of religion. They can get a different job. Furthermore, I now want to ask the SDA preacher who is so promoting this legistation if the SDA's who own their own businesses will be oh so happy to let their Christian employees off on the morning of Good Friday so they can go have the imposition of ashes and other Christian religious traditions, too.

Hi there,
my in-laws leave tomorrow. It has been a LONG week. But there haven't been any major hitches. We have had bible study every night, something they don't do at home. We have been doing the Experiencing God study.
We have been talking about what GOd does for us and through us, and how He is working in our lives. And talking about prayer etc. It has been good. We haven't had any all out SDA discussions, although the opportunity for the conversation to turn down that road has come up several times. They just didn't choose to take it. And that has been ok. They don't seem to really begrudge us our beliefs. They haven't been anything but encouraging about the bible study and home church we have in our home.
I am suprised it has gone as well as it has.

I did have occasion to mention that I didn't like the idea of that Bible with the EGW quotes inserted that the SDA church put out. They said they hadn't heard of that but didn't like the idea either. They followed that up with the standard~ "you know you don't even have to follow EGW to be an SDA."~ line. I bit my tongue! I didnt want to get into how much the SDA beliefs are ingrained with EGW's notions. I really don't think they realize it!
They are so used to reading the bible only in order to back up their SDA doctrines, that they can't see what is biblical and what is EGW! -- So sad.
But things have gone ok, which I am grateful for. I think God is working through us in an experiential way, showing them what faith looks like. Rather than through us arguing about doctrines.

Much more pleasant!

Thanks for the prayers, and thanks for asking about how things have been going! having company is always hectic, and we have started to step on each others toes just a tad, but nothing major. They leave tomorrow. God has definitely been working here at our home this week!

Thanks again,
-tanya-
