I am self employeed, so if I do not work I do not get paid. Now, I have a son that lives in Abilene, TX that I want to visit and I want to go to the Former Adventist reunion. I would to to the reunion and then visit my son and his family.
There is one more thing about all this. I have been single for a long time and God knows I am happy the way I am. But I have told him it would be nice if I had a partner.
I joined a dating service on the internet and have written different men and met some of them. But since I have become a Christian I am more picky, as I want a man who is a solid Christian. Well I have been writing to a man, you guessed it, in Dallas, TX. He was born and raised in a Christian church, Baptist. We would like to meet each other. I told him I wanted to visit my son and go to the reunion. He is finding out for me which motels are near Calvary Chapel in Arlington, TX.
I want to do what God wants me to do. I do not want to rush into anything. And I do not want to spend the money if that is not what God wants for me.
First and foremost I want to visit my son, second, go to the reunion and the bonus would be to meet this man, if it is what God wants. If it is what God wants for me, I will invite him to meet me at the meetings and attend some with me.
So, I am asking for everyone's prayers.
I learn everyday how truly awesome our God is.

Please, be very careful. Do not let yourself be alone with him. I am eagerally looking forward to hearing about the convention. From reading the lineup of speekers it should be a very interesting several days. My cousin met his wife through a match-making Internet service and from what I've heard the marriage is going just fine. He decided he wanted to marry a Russian lady who was looking for an American husband. After corresponding on the Internet for a lenghty time he flew to Moscow and got a motel for several weeks so they could meet and get acquainted. Then he brought her back on a tourist visa and they got married. He actually is a teacher at a SDA college. My son also met his wife on the computer but him and his wifes best friends were boyfriend and girlfriend and got him and his wife hooked up as penpals on e-mail. Then the met, got in love, got married and made me a grandma to the most awsome little boy and girl twins ever. So, I do now cupid does womderful things by way of e-mails and dating services. But, please, be careful.

I have been praying for a committed believing girl for my son for several years. Now, through the internet, the Lord has connected him with the sweetest, most sincerely devoted-to-Jesus girl. I am so happy! They just met face to face over the 4th of July weekend. She stayed at our home and I love her! Then he flew out to meet her family and they love him! They are still in the dating stage, but they are talking marriage and I expect things to move quickly! Still, be a little cautious. I called and talked to the girl's mother before she came and we spoke on the phone while she was here and while my son was there just so no one would be worried.

Diana, I'm new to the post and also a former of about 10 years. It seems like yesterday sometimes and to be honest, I still fight the demons of Adventism. Maybe I shouldn't put it that way but I have alot of anger and resentment. Somes days I don't think about what happened and then it's like those old tapes will go off when I least expecting it. Does it ever leave? I don't know!! My husband and I are involved with Grace church and love it. I'm happier than I've ever been. I had to start from square one and weed back through and untangle all the mess that was engrained in me. I'm thinking, how could I miss this or that. I don't know but it's just crazy. Where exactly is this former adventist reunion taking place. I don't live far from there and was just curious.
Are you originally from that area? Please be careful on the net. I know you are aware of how those things can turn out but I'll be thinking of you.
Some day I'll give my story. Really, its like eveybody's elses. I'll read and just shake my head thinking, "I know how you feel."

How can I find out if there is a group of "formers" in my area? Is there a reunion every year - just in a different location (eastern U.S. one year; western U.S. another)? Have I been missing announcements for it in "Proclamations!"?

I knew I could count on all of you for prayers.
And I thank you for them.
I found out about the reunion somewhere here on the forum. Here is the information
Calvary Chapel

200 West Park Row
Arlington, TX
The days are July 30 and 31, 2004. Dennis Fisher, Rey Cantu and other formers will be there.
From what I understand this is the first reunion.

And if I go and this gentleman and I hit it off, I will be sure to tell all of you and if we do not, I will say so also.

Nancy, Welcome to FAF. Everything you are going through are things all of us have gone through with some degree. I will pray for you. Some one else wrote on here that separating from the SDA church is like a death and that we go through the grieveing process. God is holding you up and will care for you. Just keep focused on him.
I will tell you what I do with all those feeling of anger and resentment. I write God a letter and tell him all about what is going on inside me. Then I read it to a trusted friend. After that I ask God to take all those feelings and then I burn the letter, shred it or get rid of it in some way.
Just before I decided not to rejoin the SDA church in January, 2004 I had started reading the Bible starting at Matthew. As I read the NT, I would read things and tell myself, I know I read that sometime in all my SDA schooling (from 1st grade to graduation from LLU), why did I not see that before. I have learned my brain was clouded with EGW. Now we can throw her out and concentrate on Jesus. I have not had as difficult a time letting go of adventism because God started taking me out about 20-25 years ago and I did not realize it until a few weeks ago. But there are those on here who can help you with all the things you are going through.

If I go to the reunion I would like to meet you Nancy and there is some one else who post on here who lives near the place, if I remember correctly. I am living in Henderson, NV, but my son is stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, so I would visit him and his family, especailly my adorable grandson. I am originally from So California via Montreal, Quebec and Northern Virginia.
I am very careful with those I meet on the net. Here in Henderson, I drive to meet the person at a well lit place. I have my sister and a couple friends call me on my cell phone while I am out and I tell the man I have 3 nephews in this area who are policemen and they love their Aunt Diana. That is the truth. I do have 3 nephews who are policemen and they do love me.
Nancy, Again I tell you that you are in my prayers.
Our God is AWESOME.

Sounds exciting to me Diana! If it doesn't work out, there is a christian dating service eharmony.com they match you on your similarities and convictions by requiring you to take a test. They advertise that they have a lot of success, worth a look-see.

People cring when they hear of online dating but I think it could be a great thing. I will be praying for you to find the perfect someone and a safe and happy trip.

Blessings!

Dd, this is the first former Adventist reunion. Rey Cantu is organizing it; he has a thriving ministry in the Spanish-speaking Adventist-former Advenitst community. He has connections in Mexico and south America as well as here in the USA. He actually left the church within the past year. He had been a pastor, but he found the truth of the New Covenant, and everything changed for him. He has some interesting speakers including Dale Ratzlaff and Dirk Anderson committed for the Friday evening and Saturday of the reunion--July 30-31.

An announcement of it is in the next Proclamation which is currently at the press.

Welcome, Nancy! Your waves of doubt and joy do get better. I found two things to be extremely helpful with those dips into doubt/fear/anger, etc. The first was prayer and Bible reading. Those waves do not come from God; ask His Spirit to send away the spirit of doubt and confusion and to place His Holy Spirit in the place in your heart where it had been.

The second is to equip oneself with understanding. Have you read Ratzlaff's books, Cultic Doctrine and Sabbath in Christ? Those books gave me a Biblical understanding of what the new covenant was about and what the church was about, and those helped alot!

Thanks for all you prayers. I cannot afford to go to Dallas at this time. That is okay with me as God knows what He wants for me. But please continue praying for me, the business I am starting, the men in my life, or lack thereof, and my growth in my relationship with Christ. That is most important.
I spoke to my middle brother yesterday about my not being SDA any more. He dropped out of the SDA church long ago. He was never baptized in it.
He started reading the OT sometime after our youngest brother told him all he had discovered about EGW and the other doctrines taught by the SDAs. Right now he is not reading the Bible and calls himself a freelance Christian. All I did was encourage him to read the Bible, especially the new testament. So, now all my family members know where I am in reference to Christianity.
Two weeks ago the pastor made a statement that I do not want to forget. He said, "Before we can share good news, we have to be good news". I really like that.

I wanted to update all of you on my friend in Dallas, TX. He has called me a few times since I posted my request. He really sounds like a very nice man and a good Christian. I have been praying about him and what God wants for me. Continue your prayers for me, please. I have told God I am open to whatever He wants for me in every area of my life, men included.
When we first started writing to each other, he wrote that he would pray for me as I am a new Christian. He has suggested on how to read the Bible to make it easier and suggested books to read about the Christian life. I am getting one of them, The Thompson Chain Reference Bible. I have not gotten the other one yet.
He suggested I read John first, then Matthew, James and Hebrews. I forget his reasoning, but I have done that. I am now in Hebrews again, as I have read all the NT.
So I am praying for me and asking all of you to do the same. God has been so good with all things and I do not want to disappointment Him.
He is truly awesome.

Diana, Thanks for the update; I was wondering what was happening in regards to your letter-writing relationship with that guy... It sounds promising if he is encouraging you to read Scripture! What other books has he recommended?

grace always,

Thanks for all your prayers and comments. The other book my Texas friend recommended is Matthew Henry's Commentary.
The reason he recommended reading the NT the way he did is because the book of John tells of the real and true love of God for us. When I read it earlier this year I dubbed it the Love gospel.
The second book is Matthew because it backs up John and agrees with the happenings in Jesus life.
The third book is James because it talks of us and Jesus.
Hebrews is the 4th book and he put it there because we can relate it to our lives.
So though I have read through all the NT since January, I am re reading it as my Texas friend suggested. I am now in Hebrews.
After I finish Hebrews I will read Galatians again. He said that to read the Bible in this way it is easier for a new Christian to understand.
I have to admit I feel like a silly high school girl when my Texas friend writes to me or phones me. It is fun to feel that way again.
So, thanks again for your prayers. I will never tire of telling others of how awesome our God is.

Hey Diana,

You can read Matthew Henry's Commentary on any chapter on www.searchgodsword.org

It's a great site with greek/hebrew translations for every word and lots of different commentaries. I tend to like Matthew Henry too.

You go with your school girl crush! I'm a little jealous! tee hee :-)

Thanks all for your prayers, comments and thoughts.
Sabra. I will go to the web site for the commentary.

And I will tell you, my friend signs half of his correspondence with "love". He calls me beautiful and other endearing terms and is concerned about me, because he thought I was living in a mobile home (I do not). On the other hand he sent me an e-mail that said something about friends leaving footprints on their friends hearts. So I told him he left footprints on my heart. We will see what happens. I do pray about it, all the time.
Every day I see more of how awesome our God is.

Well, one of his daughters works for SouthWest Airlines and comes into Las Vegas quite frequently and he can get some kind of a pass with her. Or, I will meet him when I go to Dallas to visit my son in Abilene. I do not know when that will be.
So I just pray about it.
Depending on how things work out between us, he and my son want to meet each other.
I will let God arrange things the way He wants them, because when I interfere in His plans, I tend to screw them up.
Diana
