Greg Taylor's book, "Discovering the New Covenant, Why I Am No Longer a Seventh-day Adventist", is awesome! It arrived in our mailbox Friday, and I finished it by Saturday night. It looks like it would be a great book to give to receptive SDA's who would otherwise not be interested in a theologically deep book. This book beautifully puts the focus where it belongs--on Jesus and the New Covenant.

My husband and I are both reading it and agree that it is excellent. We also thought it would be a perfect book for sharing with receptive SDA's if we should come across any. It's well written, Christ centered and goes into enough detail to clearly explain the New Covenant without being too lengthy for those who might not be interested in a deeply involved study.

Hrobinsonw, I think the book would be good for you. When I first read it, I kept thinking that this book, perhaps more than any other, explains to a person who doesn't understand the SDA thought processes the way an Adventist thinks about the church and the Sabbath. I've come to see the "essential package for anyone seriously questioning Adventism" to include Cultic Doctrine, Sabbath in Christ, and Discovering the New Covenant.

I'm not Colleen, but I can pretend I am as smart as she is since I know this answer...makes me feel rather good ... :-)

You can find all these wonderful books at the Life Assurance Minitries website that I posted above.

Hrob - I agree with Ms. Smart (Colleen, of course!) that those would be excellent books for you to read. One little pamphlet that is offered at that site (for only $2.95 - last time I ordered 5 of them) would be VERY good for your fiance' (I will pray she reads it!)-- THE TRUTH ABOUT SEVENTH_DAY ADVENTIST "TRUTH".

Go to the site and look at all Dale Ratzlaff has available. I am sure you will enjoy all that is there to order.

Wow, I should have proof read my last post a little better. "Pamphlet" really only has one 'h' and "thought" usually contains a 't'. Glad you could decifer it anyway...

If you want an excellent commentary on Galatians, ter Luthers commentary on the Galatians, in modern english. It is so enlightenting to get the ideas and opinions of the great reformer.

Dear Rey, This post is for you but anyone can respond. My son attends a rather small Adentist church here in California. Most the members have converted to SDA from Catholic. This little church also has a little school (aroud 70 kids) that the confrence would like to close because of the money situtation, most these Adventists are very poor, but the conference leaves the school because the people of that church want it so bad. Let me commend you Rey for your work. It is greatly needed. My granddaughter attends the school I just mentioned above and last year when she was barely six years old and in kindergarten she one day told me the biography of EGW. She even told me that Ellen was given special dreams from God so she could help people be closer to Jesus. So, I know your work is greatly needed. Also, I don't think these converts to SDA from Catholic are getting the full disclosure about the cannots and have-to's that are required to be SDA. I say this because awhile back I went to pick up my little granddaughter from Pathfinders and the leader was hurring the kids to leave. I smiled at him and said, "Hey, what's the hurry? Got a hot date waiting for you?" He laughed and said, "Yeah I do. I have a cold beer waining for me at home in my fridge". Now, frankly I thouht he seemed like an incredbly wonderful man. At the same time as a faily recent conver to SDA I don't think he must know about the beer restriction of the SDA church. Out here in Calornia the Adventists are turly flooding the Hispanic neighborhoods with outreach and afterschool and weekend things for not only the children to get involved in but the parents too. So, Mr. Cantu,I sure do have a great admiration for your work. Is is possibe to send Dale some money with a restriction that he send Spanish books to you and you can hand them out?

Mr Cantu, I am sooo glad to hear those books have been translated into spanish. I've been waiting impatiently so that I can give them to my mom. During Jeanne she stayed with me. The first night she said to me, "so you don't believe in the Sabbath, what about this and this verse" I just read to her Romans 14 and parts of Galatians. I got my Cultic doctrines out and wanted to share with her from the book but my translation skills are not very good. She asked me who wrote the book and wrote it down. I imagine she did that so that she could ask her pastor about the author.
Are the books available through LAM's?

I finally have enough money to order a bunch of books from LAM. I ordered Sabbath in Christ, Greg Taylor's book, Cultic Doctrine, one about spiritual abuse, and I cannot remember what the other one is. I am really looking forward to getting them and reading them. When I finish them I will share them with my family. Pray for my 4 sisters and the one brother who is not reading the Bible. The brother in Florida and the one in Montana are studying the Bible, but they still need prayers. At least they know about resting in Christ every day and have given up EGW.
God is so awesome in how He has worked with my family. Thank you so much God. I do love you so much.

Rey,

It is exciting to see how God is using your translation and linguistic skills. Truly, God is counting on you to expose the real truth about Adventism to Spanish members. We, former Adventists, are proud of you.

By the way, being you live in the "Holy Land" (Keene, Texas), I live just live up the road in "Old Jerusalem" (Lincoln, Nebraska). :>)

Greg Taylor's book was the first of 4 books I got from Richard a long time ago to read. I was very blessed and enjoyed his book very much. It was written in story form and he shared from his heart and was not preaching in tone but like talking with a friend and shareing his journey.

I think I'll reread it and maybe do a deeper study of all the texts he shares.

Richard

PS: Colleen about a month ago I stopped and talked with a lady who taught in your English Department when you were chair of the department. She impressed me as a person who truely loved and enjoyed her relationship with the Lord. I forget her name but she was talk and slender and had a brother working in Starbucks.
