Hi Friends,

Maybe the info below will help clarify some issues for those who are questioning SDA. I found it very enlightening! Here's a great link for more Sabbath info:

(Question: Didn't Jesus say, if you love me, keep my commandments?)

From Robert Sanders:

Jesus did keep the Sabbath as he was bound by the Torah or Law. John 14:15 - John 14:16 (NIV) 15If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever?

The term command or commandment as used in John 14:15 is "entole". In its context it is not talking about the Ten Commandments or even the Torah/law. It is a specific "injunction", "commandment" to obey what Jesus commands. At no time did Jesus ever command Sabbath keeping. If God intended for the Sabbath to be included in the New Covenant he would have told us.

Jesus never said people will recognize you as his disciples if they keep the Sabbath or what they do not eat or how they dress, or how much money they give or if they pay tithe. In the Old Covenant people were recognized by what they did not eat, how they dressed, where they worshipped, how they worshipped, etc. The New Covenant Christians are recognized by how they love. That is if they love one another. John 13:34 - John 13:35 (NIV) 34A new command (entole)I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

1 John 3:21 - 1 John 3:24 (NIV) 21Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 23And this is his command(entole): to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

1 John 4:19 - 1 John 4:21 (NIV)19We love because he first loved us. 20If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21And he has given us this command(entole): Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

When the term "Law" is used, it is "nomos". The above texts do not say he has given us the "nomos" but "entole" or commandment.

(Question: What about the remnant church in Revelation?)

Revelation never speaks of a "remnant church" or any denomination. This is a SDA twist of scriptures in their attempt to identify themselves. The "remnant" are those that survive the persecution by Imperial Rome nearly 2000 years before EGW. This was taking place in John's day. John was banished to the Island of Patmos by the Romans.

The NIV uses the term "the rest of" instead of remnant as used in the KJV.Rev17Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring - those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
It would be funny for the SDA Church to call themselves "the rest church" instead of the "remnant church".

The meaning of the term "commandments" in Revelation 12:17 is also "entole". Therefore obeying God's commandments (entole) does not tell us that it the Ten Commandments or the Torah. We know that it is not because the Ten Commandments and the Torah ended with the New Covenant. The New Covenant does include the moral commands of the Ten as well as the Torah.

Krista, thank you for sharing the above. That is a really good website. The difference between "entole" and "nomos" was really important and helpful to me when I was dealing with the Sabbath issue.
