I went to visit my mom at the adventist retirement center where she lives. I met some of her neighbors. The next morning when I went to take her to the store in my car, there was a paper in my windshield. Low and behold it was a copy of an article stating that some well known cosmetics company puts pig fat in their cosmetics, and if you wear the makeup you will be having pork seeping into your skin. I was freaked out by the fact that someone went to all that trouble. I wear make-up tastefully. Not an excessive amount. I have never accepted that it was wrong or that tasteful jewelry was wrong. I was only quoted the Timothy verse about women having a beautiful inner spirit and not gold, braided hair or fine clothes. I thought the Adventist took that to the extreme, and never thought the Bible backed it up.

I think I figured out who put it there, and if I am right, one woman we visited was very strange. You couldn't even get through her door with all of her mess. She lived like a pig! But one thing that stood out to me in her house was a round table with an 8x10 picture of Ellen G White! It looked like a shrine!!!!!!

Maybe this should go under the heading Humor but since you mentioned the 8 x 11 photo of EGW I'll place it here. Through the Lutheran mailorder company one can order Martin and Katy Luther bobbleheads. I was wondering if I could come up with EGW bobbleheads and make a bunch of cash at campmeeting. What do you think? Honestly though, when the Lutherans have a Martin Luther bobblehead they think they are so funny. For some reason I think SDA's would be offended at a EGW bobblehead and would consider it two screws short of blasphony and they would see no humor in it at all.

Susan_2,
I can see the humor of an EGW bobblehead, but the very historical SDAs would probably consider it sacreligious.
Just my thoughts.

Maybe an EGW Magic 8 Ball would be better suited than a bobblehead. At least you can ask the 8 ball questions. *I'm just kidding!

Susan,

I think many Adventists at campmeeting would go for the EGW bobbleheads (sold by the cash register at the ABC booth). I had to ask my wife what a "bobblehead" was (smile). One learns new things every day.

I laughed when I read about the 8 ball. I immediately thought of a crystal ball with her face in it. Then I told myself, "Okay, Diana, do not get nasty".

Hey, the 8 Ball idea isn't really all that much different from EGW's claim that she saw the 4th Commandment (about the sabbath) with
a glowing aura around it. Yeah...right.

"Magic EGW 8-ball, will I be saved if I call on the name of Jesus?"

"MORE INFORMATION IS REQUIRED"

Better shake that Magic EGW 8 Ball again for your question about being saved if you call on the name of Jesus. Mine came up "Most Definitely, Yes!"

Speaking of deodorant use. A good friend of mine who was at one time an extremely conservative Adventist (he has since left the church), who received a MDiv from Andrews, elder of church, was doubting whether we should use anti-perspirant so he would wear two t-shirts under his dress shirt on Sabbath to aborb the sweat that was created by wearing the two t-shirts. He finally realized it was okay to wear anti-perspirant when told there was nothing in it that could harm him.

Doug....about the deodorant use, are you positive it's approved by the SDA?
Raise your arms if you're "SURE"!
We wouldn't want your friend to "Smell Like Teen Spirit" if it's not accepted.

I really like the sense of humor seen here. I could add some things about SDAs, but I can get very sarcastic and I do not want to fall into that trap.
With love for God.

You're right. There's got to be something better to discuss than people's armpits.
