Jeremy,
Are you new to the forum? I have enjoyed your thoughts and insight on this thread and on another, too. Thanks. You have a great knowledge of Scripture. What is your background?

Melissa, Are you in an area where you can watch Dr. Gene Scott? I think you can get his programs on the computer as well as on sattelite t.v. He's wonderful. He has numerous degrees from Stanford Univ. in the origional Bibical langages and on each show he takes a passage and breaks it down to it's true meaning. And, his wife starts and ends each program with a vocal. I like her singing. Unfortunatelly I don't have a computer (I have Webtv.) and I don't have sattelite t.v. so I watch his program when I'm in the Southeran Ca. area.

well, I'm in the dark ages at my house...I don't have cable or satellite...not that much on TV worth paying for. I only get the major networks, cbs, nbc, abc and ptv...plus PAX. Occasionally Daystar comes in and a couple of others, but it's sketchy.

I've never heard of Gene Scott. There is a guy locally who teaches phd level greek and hebrew, but he only does a weekly call-in program. and he doesn't like to use original languages too much because he's afraid it would be talking over people's head. ... Does this Gene Scott have a website?

Jeremy, welcome! Maybe you've introduced yourself elsewhere and I just haven't gotten there yet, but we're glad you're here!

Tracey, I am praying for you. I'm so sorry for the heartache and discouragement I know you're feeling. Hrob, I believe God is calling and equipping you for the work He prepared in advance for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). Isn't it awesome how He leads us to what He wants us to know at the time we're ready to know it?!

Tracey, I did not get a chance to finish my earlier post before buzzing off for a school outing...please know my heart is aching right along with yours. I am praying that through this whole experience you will feel the warmth of God's care and leading. You are a remarkable women - He has His arms around you...somewhere down the path He leads, you will look back knowingly.

Hang on, my dear friend!

Tracey,
my heart aches for you. I, as you know, dated my SDA husband, and then married him just as he began his long journey out of the SDA church. I know the frustration!! Pray, Girl, Pray! And we are praying for you. When you are at your wit's end, remember that Christ intercedes for us when we don't even know what to pray for anymore. He will be faithful to tend you through this!,

Tracey,
What you are going through at this time is awful and very disappointing to you. But as the others have said, God has you in his arms and is carrying you. Further down the path you will see that. And yes, Adventism has a hold on its believers that I believe is demonic. I continue to pray for you and your C. Keep smiling and thankful through all of your problems, like Paul. Sing God's praises. God loves you and is caring for you. He is awesome.

Tracey, just pray and be patient. Strengthen yourself in the word as you go through this. Use it as a tool. All things happen in God's time. I didn't think that my fiance would understand. But after she read Greg Taylor's, "Manifesto" and checked the scriptures last night. She now wants all of her Adventist family members to begin reading it.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I recently visited with "Raven" and Ric_B-- They were very warm and inviting to me and let me know that I'm not crazy! haha! I will take all of your advice and copy it into a word doc and read it whenever I feel discouraged. C did mention wanting his family to read Greg Taylor's book also. But I suggested that he wait until he is sure what he believes b/c he may have to be on the defensive about the materials that he gives them to read.

I feel so renewed reading all of these emails and grateful for my family in Christ here, that completely totally, fully understands what is going on in my life.

And I will PRAY, girl PRAY! ; )

(ps. on page 50 of Sabbath in Christ)

WIth love..

Hrobinson,
Just a word of advice, which I am sure you have already thought of. If you have I apologize.
I am very happy your girlfriend is reading G. Taylor's book. When she decides to let go of EGW and Adventism and accept Jesus only, give her some time to get used to this before going forward with any other plans. Let her get to know Jesus first. If you have heard this before, I apologize. I just want everything to be good for you and her.
Take care my friend. God does love you and He is awesome.

Hrob, I second Diana's caution above. I'm delighted that God is stirring your fiancee's heart, but allow her to know and take root in Jesus before pursuing other plans.

It has been said that it takes at least two years--sometimes more--for former Adventists to debrief from their Adventist experience. That's the same general time frame for debriefing from all cults. My experience--both my own and watching that of others--has more than confirmed this generalization to be true. A lot can happen during the debriefing period. If a person becomes grounded in solid Bible study and Christian fellowship, he will emerge strong if his desire is to know Jesus and to embrace truth sincerely.

On the other hand, if a person does not immerse him or herself in Bible study and does not establish oneself in a Christian fellowship (apart from a romantic relationship), they will flounder and will likely never truly unlearn and relearn the deceptive doctrines and assumptions that have shaped their world view and their understanding of God and salvation.

I'm not suggesting here, Hrob, a timeline for your life's events. I'm only suggesting what quite likely lies ahead for your fiancee if she truly does decide to leave the church. The most important thing, of course, is that she truly accepts and surrenders to Jesus. If she does that, the rest will follow--but there's no way to make that exiting and the subsequent rebuilding a fast process.

But praise God for His work in her life--and in yours!

Colleen
