I am responding to Soar's post in the TEST area by starting a new thread. The Test area is not a regular archivng thread; it fills up and can't be continued after a time.

Soar, I'm so glad you are here! Feel free to ask questions or just express you concerns-you are among people who will understand you. Do you care to share a bit of you Adventist experience? How long have you been among them? Did you become Adventist?

You are finding Jesus and healing after involvement with not just one but two cults. But He is faithful, and He will teach you and heal your heart, and He will redeem the past.

Welcome!

Colleen

Hi Soar,
Welcome to our discussions. I just joined up this week too, but I feel at home already. We've all been hurt by adventism one way or another, and this support group is one way to get it out in the open with nobody judging you. Feel free to ask any questions too. We'll do our best to help.
God bless
Loren

Soar...Welcome from me, too. :-)

I'm sure you have quite a story to tell! (Being a JW for so long...and then getting entangled in Adventism... :-(

grace always,

Soar,
When you accept Jesus and leave JW and SDA's behind you do soar like an eagle. You must have a fascinating story to tell after being mixed up with both of those cults.
Welcome to FAF.
I have found since accepting Jesus that He is very awesome.

Wow! Ive been reading so much on this site that I've failed to respond to all of you----soooo I want to give everyone a BIG HUG and thank you for all of your insights! I have to admit I don't have the courage to disconnect with the people in the church, because when I left the JW'S it was 5yrs with no one in my life(distrusted churches and "worldly people")untill I responded to Doug B. on t.v and got involved with his ministry. Now I'm back to square one! Frankly I'm just feeling shut down right now. I might go to the church acouple of times a month, I don't tithe or profess E.W. They were so gong ho about using me in the media and when I failed to continue to respond, well out of sight, out of mind. But thats okay because it ended up just being a stepping stone out of the J.W'S and 5yrs of isolation to the SDA's. Who knows where next. I've decided to just wait on God to open another door. But I'm afraid that what I think is Holy Spirit directing me will be yet another bad judgement call.

Hi Soar!

Have you thought of getting involved in other things too, in order to meet people? Like volunteering, hobbies, etc. People don't have to agree on everything to be good friends. And the variety can often your life richer.

But more than that, keep asking God to lead you and take time to listen to Him. When you commit your life to Him He may not do things the way we expect, but He is emanently faithful to us!

Soar,
Read your Bible starting with the New Testament. Ask God to teach you and show you what He wants you to know. Do not read any extra biblical reading. Pray about what you read. God will teach you. You are on my prayer list.
God loves you and wants you with Him.

I second Diana's suggestion, Soar, and I want to encourage you to become involved in a nondenominational Bible study group such as Bible Study Fellowship or Community Biblel Study. You would definitely make new friends, and you will discover the Bible coming alive for you.

If you do decide to become involved in a Bible study group, I suspect you will be shocked at the level of honesty and openness and concern you will experience from the other women. In Adventism I had no idea women could be so supportive and deep and faithful (and I suspect Jehovah's Witnesses are no different!).

With prayers for you,
Colleen

Soar,
As usual, Colleen has the best idea.

I am a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). It is an international Bible study (I think it is so cool that people world-wide are studying the same thing I am!).

This would be a perfect study for you this very year...we are studying Acts. This is my 7th year and probably one of my favorite studies because a great deal of the stories in Acts have to do with the Holy Spirit. The first time I went I was blown away (as Colleen said) at the deep level of committment and love for God and fellowship with other believers. It was my first step in seeing God for what/who He really is for me (not from parents, a church or a crabby, uptight woman!). I praise Him for His leading me to BSF.

To check for a BSF in your area, just log in biblestudyfellowship.com.

If you decide to go, please tell me, I would love to discuss the weekly study with you.

You are in my prayers.

Dd, you made me laugh--I loved the "crabby, uptight woman" characterization!

Soar, what a wonderful idea! If you join BSF, you even have a real, live former SDA--Dd--who would discuss the studies with you! That is such a great idea!

With prayers for you, Soar,
Colleen
