My son, in the USAF, is being transferred from Abilene, TX to Little Rock, Arkansas the end of February. While in Abilene they attended the base church on Sunday mornings until a sermon about the 10 commandments. They tried going to the local Christian churches but he told me there was too much politics tied in with the sermons. They did not like the SDA church in Abilene and quit attending that one. That is when they started attending the base church. At this time they are not going to church, but they want to and they miss it. So Please pray that they will find a Christian church, that God wants for them, in Little Rock. In the military, my son is listed as SDA, but I know one day he will leave it. They want a Bible class for their 18 mo old son and a grace filled church for themselves. So, if any of you live in or near Little Rock, Arkansas and know of a church, please post it here. Please pray for my son and his family and all our military. I know God will answer these prayers. He is an awesome God.

Diana, in the meantime while your son and his family are not attending church, I thought I would mention that they could watch/listen to the webcasts from Calvary Community Church in Phoenix--former SDA Pastor J. Mark Martin's church. Pastor Mark and the other pastors there have great sermons and you really get fed! The web site is: http://www.calvaryphx.com/

Diana, Is Little Rock near Hot Springs? I know Arkansas is a big state so those cities might be far apart. My son is in the military too. I looked at his dog tags one day and on them he is listed as Seventh-day Adventist. He is not a baptised SDA, nor is he even a member. In fact, he seems to be quite unaware of what the SDA church even teaches or believes. The best I can figure out is he identifies with the SDA because he is convinced on the Sabbath issue and his grandparents who he has always loved so much are SDA and I think in his heart he must believe if Grandma and Grandpa are SDA then the SDA church must be the right church. That's the best I can figure out because growing up he had very little exposure to the SDA church. I try to encourage attending the services at the base chapel but the services are on Sundays so he doesn't go. Besides he has to work Sunday mornings and he's off work on Saturdays. And, he's had several chaplins where he's been stationed who were SDA. The SDA church is getting more and more chaplins in the miitary. Diana, I'll keep your son and his family in my prayers. One more comment about SDA's and the military. It used to be that the denomination encouraged conceious objector status. Of course, there was a draft then and we have an all volunteer military now. My dad who was born in the early 1900"s even went to the SDA Medic Corps. It was a program sponsored by the SDA church that trained its young men to already be medics so when they got drafted they would have no problem getting into the military as co's. Apparently Uncle Sam would accept their medic training and it saved a lot of SDA young men from having to bear arms. I can even remember when I was a teenager during the height of getting drafted for the Vietnam War hearing sermons on the guys needing to registure as co's. Yet, at the same time the SDA denomination puts out a magazine, I forgot the title of it but it only comes out every two months, that is sent to all SDA military personel. Plus, the denomination encourages SDA chaplins to be in the armed forces. And, every SDA I know is extremely proud of Berry Black. I just can't seem to figure out the SDA position on the miltary. It does not make sense at all to me. But then that is true of ost evrything that comes up with Adventism, it doesn't make sense to me.

Jeremy,
Thanks for the suggestion about Calvary Chapel. I will send the url to my son and daughter in law.
Susan, the longer I am out of adventism, the more confusing it gets for me. Part of that is because as a member I did not know what the church taught and how the leaders did things and treated others. It is convoluted and confusing and thank God I am no longer a part of it. I never learned how awesome God is in the SDA church. And He is so awesome.

Susan_2,
Hot Springs is, excuse the way I put it, about 2 inches south west of Little Rock on the map I have. I have no idea how many miles that is as I cannot find the legend that says how the milage is measured.
I remember your son and all your family in my prayers.
Diana
