Dear Friends,
I and my family have been very busy during the last 10 days dealing with my mother-in-law. An x-ray revealed a mass in her right lung. A preliminary CatScan and biopsy shows cancer. She just had a second biopsy this morning and the tumor bled a lot and she has blood in both lungs. Currently she is in ICU on life support to assist breathing.

My mother-in-law is a former who left about 1982 when we left. However she was so bitter that she rejected God completely and has been a self-proclaimed atheist all these years. Interestingly, she retained the SDA emphasis on health. In a real sense, the pursuit of health has become her God. She has always been heavily involved in many companies that distribute health supplements and cure-alls, most of which, IMO are fraudulent products.

My wife and I see this cancer as a direct message from God to wake her up. This is a woman who has never smoked, not been around any toxic environment. She has been fanatical about what she eats and drinks. And yet she, (of all people) has lung cancer. Can it be anything other than God's intervention?

Please pray for her spiritual healing as this is the most important. She is 83.

Dane, I am praying now and will continue to pray for your mother-in-law. God is sovereign, and I've no doubt He is calling her to surrender to Him. I'm also praying for you and your wife.

That is a very great burdon on your and your wifes hearts now. I hope there is complete recovery. I mean this with regardrs to physical health and spiritual health. Miracles have been known to happen. Your m-i-l is the same age as my other. My mom worked once with a man who was still quite young when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. I think he was in his late 20's or maybe his early 30's, anyway he was young. And, he had never smoked or been around it. That does happen occassionaly. Your family is certainly in my prayers. And, yes, I have known people who were drawn to Adventism because of the diet focus. I once met a hippie who told me he was a vegetarian and he wanted a spiritual home so he joined the SDA. Then he realized the only thing he liked about the SDA was being vegetarian so he quit the SDA and not only did he stay vegetarian but he got very fanatical about the diet and health issues. I really don't think that is uncommon.

Dane, I have added your Mom and MIL to my prayer list and will remember then in my prayers. It just shows me that what is wrong with me is nothing compared to being sick with cancer and being an atheist.
What is wrong with me is that I fell today and have a hairline fracture in my right knee cap. I have to wear an immobilizer. It happened at works I am on workmans comp. Tomorrow I see the orthopedist for another regular immobilizer and find out when I can return to work. Please pray that I heal fast. I cannot drive my car as it is a stick shift.
In all this God is awesome and is still in charge.

Dane, praying for all of you. My m-i-l was a vegetarian, non-smoker, non-drinker SDA who also took tons of vitamins, and any "health" product that came on the market. She got breast cancer and it metastazised to her brain and abdomen. She did not like Dr's because of something she had read in Councils on diets and foods so she wouldn't go to them by the time she was diagnosed it was too late. Her sister was methodist and ate anything and everything, she survived kidney cancer and lived to be 90.

Dane,

Only a mature Christian would recognize that God sometimes allows horrible things to happen because He knows sometimes we are so stuck that only a horrible scenario will wake us up to our need of Him. I admire you for placing your mother-in-law's spiritual well being above her physical well being. Of course we will gladly pray for both. However, it is wise to acknowledge that God may have a plan that is bigger than anything that we can see through human eyes. Grace and peace to you and your family as you travel through this valley!

I have a prayer request. Please, all of you, please, keep my sweet little grandchildren in your prayers. They are one year eight months old today. I just heard they had been in the hospital, I think for just one day, but they are still extremely sick. It hasn't been determined yet it they have food poisoning or if it's the flu. Nonetheless, whatever it is they are extremely ill. Thank-you all for your prayers and your concern. I appriciate the loving nature of my Internet friends (This is the only Internet forum I partisipate on, so that means you.) very much.

I just have to tell all of you how God has provided for me. I told you I have a hairline fracture of my right knee cap. I have to wear a knee immobilizer. I cannot drive. If I drive with it on and get in an accident, I will automatically be at fault. If I take it off and get in an accident and hurt my knee further, then my workman's comp is out the window. So, the lead OT offered to get me for work and take me home yesterday, then she took me to our Christmas party and brought me home. There is a PT who lives near me, with whom I work, and she will take me to and from work this next week. She works 4, 10 hour days, so I will also. Then for the following week, she will take me to work on Monday, the lead OT will bring me home. My younger sister is off work that week, so she offered to take me to work and the lead OT will take me home. I will work my usual schedule of 5, 8 hour days. So that is how God has taken care of my knee and work situation for the next two weeks. God is so good and has provided wonderful people with whom to work and a wonderful sister. It shows me again how awesome God is. Thank you God for providing all my needs.

UPDATE: My mother-in-law is still in ICU. The second biopsy came back positive for cancer. She also has had a moderate heart attack. Prognosis is poor. We appreciate your prayers. Our main concern is her soul.

I have a prayer request. It pretty much includes most of us on this forum. And, it is for our safety while we travel over these busy days ahead. Especially those of us who will be driving. Also, those flying that the airplains are safe and in good repair, that the piolets and co-piolets are alert and that the air traffic controllers are alert and not drunk. That those traveling by rail that the tracks are in good repair and again that the engenieer is alert and sober. Also, those traveling by bus, same thing and even those travelibg by bicycle are safe ind in Gods care and those traveling by any other mode of transportation too.
