It has been a year since I decided not to rejoin the SDA church. I visited a cell church, a local Calvary chapel and the Community church near me. All of them preached from the Bible, but they did not feel right to me. I prayed about it and the week after Mother's day 2004 God put it in my head to visit the big Christian church on Russell Rd off 95 here in Henderson. It is the sister church to the one that Bob attends. I walked in and sat down and immediately felt at home. I signed up for their Starting Point class and for the DiscoveryE class at Guest Central after the service. Starting Point teaches the basics of Christianity and the other expands on this. They do not have a Sunday School where we study the Bible. I miss that so I have decided to join BSF when the Revelation class I am taking at church is ended. That is a 9 week class. The church encourages everyone to join a small group, but God has not found one for me, yet. Their music is lively and I did not know any of the songs they sing, but I like the music because all of it praises God. They have 4 services, one on Saturday evening and 3 on Sunday morning. I attend Sat PM. I volunteer on the welcoming committee. I stand at the door and welcome people as they come it and direct them where they need to go, it they do not know. After the church service I do to Guest Central and talk to people who are interested in the church and what they believe. I like doing this as I like to meet people. It is one of the gifts God has given to me. I have asked God if this is where he wants me to stay as my sister does not like the music there. She is a terrific singer and has a wide voice range. I think she likes the more conventional services. If God wants me to change churches so she will come with me, I am willing to do that. So I am praying about it.
So that is where God has brought me in the past year since I decided not to rejoin the SDA church. God, You are AWESOMEL

After attending St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church for almost 3 years, I was baptised and took communion last week. I love the liturgy and security in ritual, but mostly I'm so touched by the genuine worship that silent tears stream down my face every week. I feel like I'm walking 10 inches above the ground!

Dear Lindaflugel, Finily someone else on here who likes a worship servce with a lot of formality, ritual and the litergy. We used to have Loren on here who is Greek Orothodox but he hasn't posted in awhile. I hope him and his wife are o.k. And, isn't communion in a litergical church wonderful? Sometimes I'll go over to the Episipalian as I like their service, too. When I'm in Southeran California I attend a Lutheran church that prctices the high order of worship service and I especially like that. The church I attend does not practce a high ordered service except for special holy servics. And, Colleen, I read that you like chior music. Last Sunday I went nd heard the Nordic Chior sing. Oh, that must be what heaven sounds lik.

As I am transitioning out of Adventism I have enjoyed the Gospelcentric services and friendly confines of the large Baptist Church in my community. I am gaining many blessings from the wide variety of music and instumentation. The presence of God is undeniable in this place. The presentation of the Gospel each sunday is absolutely manna from heaven. It is finally EXCITING to go to church after all these years. I have found a non-judgemental environment to grow in. Peace to all of you who are seeking,Randy.

Well, as I was transitioning out, I was in a very grace oriented Church of Christ---a real 'Max Lucado' type congregation. But, I've discovered that they are few and far between.

I then moved back to SoCal and took membership in Trinity E.V. Free and got to know Colleen and several other formers. I've visited lots of E.V. Free churches and they always feel like where I belong.

But, up where I now live, the closest E.V. Free is over an hour away. I've found a very evangelical Baptist church (SBC roots) that is transitioning to a non-denominational, evangelical church. Here, the Word is cherished and taught. Legalism is just not found---the congregation would have found the temperence sermon mentioned above to be really out of line. Having a beer or a glass of wine just isn't a sin.

It's interesting how many of us wound up in Baptist churches. D.M. Canright was one of the first SDA's of prominence to leave---and he went to the Baptist churches. He was an elder in two Baptist churches and died a faithful Baptist.

In a way I'm surprised so many of you are in Baptist churches. Where my daughter lives in Tennessee there are 10 Commandment signs in yards all over the place. They found every Baptist church they attended to be very legalistic so they ended up in a small non-denominational church.

Praise God...

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

I'm one of those who would like to join a more liturgical church. I've been part of a Calvary Chapel before, which is a good, solid Bible-based church...but I personally feel more called to a liturgical church.

Please pray for me and my family on our transition. Especially pray for my wife, who grew up SDA.

In Christ,
Daniel

Daniel,
I will pray for the Lord to direct as you continue to follow His leading. Many of us here grew up SDA, and the pains you and your wife are (and will be) feeling have been experienced before by others. You will have doubts, family problems, and pain as you pull up the SDA roots. However, you will find as you cling to Jesus, that He IS worth it ALL! He really will lead you "beside the still waters...and restore your soul". As Colleen so aptly puts: He will redeem everything that you bring to him. He IS faithful!

Blessings!

I honestly don't know what denomination I am attending. I suspect they have Baptist ties but the trend for Baptist's these days is to have non-identifying names...I go to the Fellowship of Joy and it truly lives up to it's name. It is a fellowship of joy! I sit there and tears flow down my face during the praise time, I feel the Holy Spirit BIG TIME in that place. And the pastor is really good too! My family (including my husband) really love it. I wonder what my husband's parents would think if they found out...co-incidentally, the Fellowship of Joy is right next door to my husband's father's SDA church (he is the pastor)...but they won't see us because we meet on Sunday and they aren't there on the Venerable Day of the Sun! (said tongue in cheek).

Indeed, Pheeki--I know that term from my Adventist family! (They worship, instead, on the Venerable Day of Saturn!!)

Part of where I am is that I really DISLIKE/HATE it when I see SDA literature and it is not labelled SDA. For example, today I walked into my dentist's office. He is a Christian and used to attend the church I now attend. One of his hygienists attends my church and told me about him. Well, I sign in and turn to the literature rack. There on the rack is a booklet with postcards inside, prestamped, for the "The Bible Story" books. Nothing about it being sponsored by the SDA church or any connection to it. So I took the booklet folded it up and put it in my purse. My friend came our to greet me and I told her what I had done and told her it was SDA literature. She has read some of EGW and gave it back to me and has read some of the web sites, including this one, written by former SDAs. On the back page of the booklet there are comments made by various religious leaders identified only by there church affiliation, i.e., a USAF chaplain, Presbyterian pastor, a Lutheran pastor, , a Baptist pastor, a Methodist minister, a letter from a Catholic diocese. There are no names/location of where /who these people are. So I took the booklet and threw it away when I got home. So part of where I am at this time is to get rid of SDA literature before some one sees it. Just a small thing, but it is something I can do when I see it. I do not want any one being deceived. God deserves so much more because He is so awesome.

In my community are Signs of the Times Literature racks at vaious locations. The Signs put in these racks are to be taken for free. It is a wittnessing ploy by some individual SDA's. I generally will only take one. You now, those people paid their hard earned money to put those magazines there so I feel it is stealing to take more than my fair share. Yet, if I see Watchtowers or Awakes sitting around I toss them in the trash. And, yes, Diana, the SDA's do not boldly state that literature is SDA. At the chiropractors office also is one of those Bible Story displays.

Good for you, Diana! Somehow, just knowing you from the forum without actually seeing you, I can picture you quietly and calmly taking that pamphlet, folding it, and unobtrusively putting it in your purse while you quietly keep your blood pressure under control!

You just saved someone from deception!

Colleen, You got it exactly. When I read what the "supposed" religious leaders wrote I wanted to punch some ones nose because there were no names, towns, states that identified these religious leaders. If a person thinks so highly of these books, why not use their names and towns from where they come. As I read your post above, I laughed loudly because that was exactly what I did.
I thank God I can do my part, what ever it may be and how ever small it may be. I just do not like people to be deceived and I hate it when children are dragged into this deception. Our God is so awesome, He deserves so much better than that.

Now the SDA's such as on the programs like FFT and the others, they don't give EGW credit when they quote from her or refer to her. Instead they will say, "one of favorite Christian authors said it this way..." and they will paraphrase EGW. I can catch it. Those unfimiliar with EGW wouldn't.

How do I look at profiles? Is it possible to see the profiles of others? I played around with it a little and couldn't figure anything out. I'd love to see pictures of anyone who posted theirs on this site. I always love putting a face and name together.
