Poor kid! Just read the website....helped me remember all the reasons I've left the church, that's for sure! I skimmed through much of it.....did anyone mention FAF to Bucky? Sounds like he might need "debriefing" (is that the right word?) after his experience there! Plus it would show them that we really don't know Bucky, are just supporting him, if we invite him to fellowship with us on FAF.

Yes, I did invite him and others to FAF. Did not have the url so just mentioned the name.
And yes, it helped me remember also the reasons I did not rejoin the SDA church.
What an awesome God we have.

Since I don't have internet access over the weekend, I missed joining in. I have read the thread this morning though, and I think you all did a fabulous job for what you were up against. I'm sure Bucky felt supported. The worst thing would be if he felt all alone, and not understanding why his grandfather and others were attacking his beliefs.

Last night I spent most of the evening reading the posts on the Grandfather's website. I do applaud those of you who joined the fray. Will these people ever get it that the law was a shadow, the Sabbath was a shadow, the whole thing foreshadowed the substance, which is Christ! How my heart breaks for these people when I read their arguments in favor of bondage. That is what they are arguing for, but they just don't seem to get it. No one on here has argued for the right to go running around sinning, we have only shared with them our celebration of Grace.

I agree with Esther, God will take care of the seeds planted. What I read from Bucky's posts gave me great hope that this kid (is he only 19?) has a clear view of what Grace is, who Jesus is, the whole thing. If he's got that clear, he will not be moved. One can only hope that his grandfather will one day sit and learn at his feet.

Jan - "Every single day I still have to delete old thoughts and try to sort of Scripture from tradition. When will it ever end?"

Probably never, God is continually working in me to base all that I believe on His word and His word alone. We may not all agree in all areas but the rule of faith must be His word and not tradition. I continually ask Jesus for discernment to not move from one tradition into another tradition. :-)

I've been a bad girl! I got so mad at "Guest" whoever that person is, who was attacking Bucky, and saying that Bucky is holding "the church" at arm's length. If I were Bucky I'd be further away than that from those self-righteous boobs who think they know it all. Anyway, if you want to know what I had to say to them (I did post one nice post), I posted as JesusLovesMe.

I'm doing a little deep-breathing here as I calm down. I suppose I'd better stay away from that site because it brings back too many memories of the way I was treated when I started to ask pertinent questions. Notice how, when they can't really give a good reason for their thinking, they attack!

Dear Jesus, please forgive me for losing my temper. I'm so thankful that you have covered my life with your precious life. Please open the eyes of these willfully blind people to the truth of your love and the freedom that comes with your grace.

Give me Jesus!

Thank you, Colleen, for your encouraging words. You are a continuing blessing here, and this ministry is valid and necessary. I'm convinced that as formers we have a special commission from Jesus to introduce those that are still deluded to Grace. If you read a post on that other site by Ane, you will see that she (I'm assuming it's a woman) perfectly described what it is like to step out of the SDA fold into the waiting arms of Jesus. Her description of how the fruits of the spirit simply flow out of her unforced is a sermon in itself, and it's definitely a description of what it is like to finally give Jesus control of the perfection process. I'm grateful that I am hidden in His perfection, which is how he can tell us to "be ye perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect." We will never have a perfection of our own, only his life wrapped all around ours so that He is all that anyone can see.

I have regained my composure. Now all I have to do is keep myself from checking in on the other site and I might be able to remain calm.

God bless us all!

Belva, I agree that we former SDAs have a commision to share the simple gospel of grace with all who will listen.

However, I am also convinced that only a very few of us are called to debate on online forums. I for one am most definately not called or gifted to engage in adversarial debate. It works me up WAY too much to the point that I don't sleep.

The agitation it causes is my first clue that it's not my gifting or my calling. Add to this that online debate brings out some of the less Christ-like aspects of my character and I can be pretty sure that it's not something I'm being called to do.

Belva, I read your post and scanned a bunch of the others. There surely is a lot of HEAT over there!

Your post was wonderful, calm, clear, and laid out the new covenant perfectly in a few sentences. I understand how you feel about not looking back, however--like Chris, I tend to get 'way too heated up, and I know God isn't calling me to spend that much of my time and energy on debate.

I am just so thankful He if faithful!

Hello...I am new to this forum.
In response to what has been said previously, the bulk of folks coming here to this forum the last few days are coming from this website:

www.formeradventist.com

Please link to their website and read their anti-Christian posts..They say they are free but concentrate all of their time and energy bashing, berating and belittling their adventist brothers and sisters.Anyone who truly walks in the love of Christ would not be so condemning...Condemnation comes from the devil.
Once you read through the posts laced with animosity hatred and gossip, you will soon realize what is at the root of their beliefs.

God's blessings on those seeking His truth at all cost.

I do hope some sincere searchers will come over here as a result of Remnant's invitation. We have nothing to hide or be ashamed of. If someone were to truly read what we've said to each other they would find that it validates exactly what they've read over there.

The international, online debate between a SDA minister/administrator and his "wayward" grandson (Bucky) is most interesting and unprecedented. I read most of the thread that validated anew our cultic past. Hopefully, lurkers on that website will see the dark side of Adventism. It is not a pretty picture. Those that defended 19-year-old Bucky did a superb job. Indeed, Grandpa should be delighted that Bucky loves Jesus.

As I pointed out on another thread recently, Adventists repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot online. The informational media of cyberspace does not serve Adventism very well. Admittedly, the Internet was a significant factor in helping Sylvia and I to finally leave Adventism. I was amazed recently how deceptively the tenets of the SDA Church are presented on their official website. They claim to really love Catholics and they also have assurance of their salvation (smile). Before the Internet became a part of our daily life, we never knew what was really going on in the SDA Church.

The Internet far surpasses any tidbits of information that Spectrum and Adventist Today magazines cover. This translates into not being good news for contemporary Adventism. God is calling many out of Adventism today. As Diana frequently reminds us, "God is awesome!" It is no accident that we are FORMER Adventists.

Because of Him,

I just finished reading all the postings about and to Bucky. I made two posts on page 15 if any of you want to read what I wrote. I just would like to say what a wonderful young man Bucky seems to be. I'll bet his grandfather, who also seems like a wonderful man must have been surprised to see all the entries on that site. He must be extremely amazed at his grandsons understanding of Scripture. I will also say that reading those posts just proves that the SDA's cannot hold up their dooctrines to scripture alone. They have to resort to EGW. My Bible says to not add to or take away from Scripture.

On page 21 wickland on 02-15-05 responds to the texts given that prove the Holy Spirit is the seal of the Christians. I had always wondered how SDA's understand those texts. Now I know. Wickland says those texts only show the means of achieving the seal. The seal is the weekly Sabbath and the means of understanding it is the weekly Sabbath is granted to the true believers by the means of the Holy Spirit. Go and read it for yourself.

No bias in that statement, eh?

I pray for those of you able to stomach those debates. I find myself personalizing it too much as though I'm having a conversation with B and then transfer too much anger towards him in the process. Though many of the conversations ARE ones we've had in the past, it's like "Ground Hog Day" where you keep reliving the same thing over and over.... As it does for Chris, it keeps me up at night or invades my nightmares. God has definately not called me to debate online, but when approached personally, I have no problems....odd, isn't it?

Don't you love that movie, Groundhog Day? Actually, I love everything with Bill Murray. Did you see What About Bob?
